The community was determined to rebuild the play structure at McKinley Park in East Sacramento after it was destroyed by arson on July 28, 2012. This was day five of the incredible effort. The rebuild represents the contributions of hundreds of volunteers giving hundreds of hours, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars the community donated. This was the park on rebuilding day five on June 7, 2013.

This was the park at sunset. I think the kids are going to
love climbing on the big synthetic boulder. This park is
going to be a dream come true!

6. I haven’t done much building in my day, but hundreds of moms and dads like
me picked up tools to help with the rebuild. It really was like an old-fashioned
community barn raising.
Time to drill down… …Who cares if you’re an amateur?

9. A number of staging areas made the rebuild
possible.

10. I can’t wait to watch the look on my daughter’s face when
she sees this little train.

11. Time for a break high above. This will be a
park like no other.

12. The finishing touches are being placed on the park. It is now complete.
It will reopen to the public on June 27, 2013.
