2. Definition
• Prepositions are used to show
movement to or from a place.

3. •The word ‘to’ is used express movement.
•It shows movement with the aim of a specific
destination.
Examples: They were going to school together.
She has gone to the mall.
• We also use ‘toward/towards’ to express
movement.
Examples: We are moving toward the future.
This is a big step towards the
marriage.

10. OTHER FUNCTIONS OF
PREPOSITIONS

11. Some prepositions also function as subordinate
conjunctions. These prepositions are after, as,
before, since, and until. A subordinate
conjunction will have both a subject and a verb
following it, forming a subordinate clause.
After they have gone home
The word after is a subordinate conjunction as it is
followed by a subject and a predicate.
After the killer calculus test
The word after is a preposition as it precedes a
noun phrase.
