- This presentation focuses on the discovery, collection, and dissemination of digitized historical books and government documents in the public domain using free online repositories such as Internet Archive or Google Books. FREE…how pertinent in these troubled economic times! Aspects of these repositories will be examined, as well as a discussion on how libraries can promote these digital sources to patrons and the community at large. To put this presentation in context, I will talk a bit about the devastation and loss that occurred in our dept. after Hurricane Rita, which caused me to think of using digital repositories to replenish a collection of documents that were lost, some very historical and seemingly impossible to find, but somehow were found, most in a different medium…digitally.
