Ad Analysis, “The Hyundai Hybrid Hype,” Self Evaluation
The ad analysis essay was the first essay that I wrote for my composition class; English. I
have to admit that I was more than a little intimidated at the prospect of writing my first essay
since I had not been in college in 30 years. I took a tremendous amount of time to prepare and
write this first paper because I wanted to make sure I clearly understood the style, and the
approach of an ad analysis. Ethos, pathos, and logos were foreign terms to me at the beginning of
this process, but I quickly discovered how they apply to print, as well as other types of
advertising, and I enjoyed analyzing their effects on the consumer when used appropriately.
My goal with this paper was to show my understanding of the subject, the Hyundai
Sonata Hybrid, and my ability to convey what I thought the advertiser was trying to market by
their effective use of ethos, pathos and logos. I feel I did an adequate job with the writing and use
of language with the subject. It was not my best work, I hope to have improved throughout the
summer session, but I feel it was a worthy effort and one which I would only alter marginally,
given the word count and the same time frame to do again.
