In Forrester’s 60-criteria evaluation of SAP implementation providers, we found that Accenture and
IBM led the pack because of the breadth and depth of their SAP implementation capabilities. Both
of these rms are strong across a wide range of industries, all aspects of the implementation life cycle,
and widespread geographies. Capgemini and Deloitte remain strong choices as well — and both of
these rms continue to build out their global delivery capabilities to remain cost-competitive. HCL
has notably strengthened its SAP practice through its acquisition of Axon in 2008, which signi cantly
added to its consulting and implementation expertise. O shore pure-plays like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro
remain strong alternatives in this market. Firms with a signi cant specialized focus, such as those
attending to the “run” aspect of SAP like CSC, HP-EDS, and Fujitsu; European-centric rms like Logica,
Siemens IT Solutions and Services, and T-Systems; and nearshore providers Neoris and So tek are also
strong choices for more niche client needs.

2 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009
For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals

STRONG BUSINESS CASES AND HIGH ROI MATTER MORE THAN EVER IN SAP PROJECTS
Firms continue to invest in SAP implementation projects, both rst-time SAP users and upgrades,
focusing on a range of projects perceived as high value such as business intelligence, analytics, and
industry-speci c modules. With the economic downturn, rms o en proceed with caution — and
seek partners that can help deliver fast time-to-value, high ROI, and innovative pricing and resource
    allocation models.

Providers have invested signi cantly in aligning to these market needs — creating accelerators, tools,
and templates that speed time-to-deployment and reduce implementation cost and risk. Providers
also continue to drive pricing innovations, such as outcome-based pricing and predictable, xed-fee
engagements. For most SAP services buyers the key deciding factors are a combination of proposed
approach and industry as well as functional expertise.

Estimation Tools, Risk Reduction, And Predictability Are Key To Achieving ROI
Facing signi cant budget pressures and determined to get high ROI out of their SAP spend, rms
seek predictable, high-value implementation services from their providers. Key areas that matter to
    buyers include:

       · Accurate project estimating tools with exible pricing options. Firms are more concerned
than ever with having predictable costs and alignment to business bene ts. Most of the leading
providers have exible pricing options — such as milestone-based payments, value-based
pricing, nancing arrangements, and pay-as-you-go services. Furthermore, providers continue
to build out their low-cost delivery capabilities to ensure that they can support clients with the
right resources at the right cost.

       · Accelerators and prepackaged o erings that reduce risk and speed time-to-value.
Accelerators and prebuilt solutions matter more than ever in this economic environment
as rms seek to speed time-to-value, reduce costs, and have lower risk, more predictable
implementations. Providers continue to invest in these areas — from tools and templates, to
xApp development, to prepackaged solutions. Most of these solutions are geared toward speci c
industries, meaning that they are o en developed with built-in best practices that providers
have gained from previous implementations. Buyers should realize that these solutions can take
them a long way, but will likely still require customization.

       · Track record of success within an industry and speci c application. Buyers’ top factor in
selecting an implementation partner is typically the provider’s relevant experience — industry
as well as functional. Many clients look for past implementation success including tangible
bene ts delivered, evidence of prebuilt IP speci c to that industry (such as xApps or fuller,
prepackaged solutions), and number of sta experienced or certi ed in certain areas. For SAP,
this is o en experience with the IS product lines or industry-speci c xApps.

Buyers Seek Breadth Of Services From Consulting Through To Support And Hosting
is year’s evaluation incorporated a broader range of services evaluated, moving beyond just
implementation o erings to include application maintenance and support as well as hosting and
operational capacity. Many buyers seek providers that can o er this full life cycle of services, reducing
or eliminating transition costs and potentially gaining cost advantages by creating a bigger overall
opportunity for the service provider. erefore, this Forrester Wave, while still primarily focused on
implementation, also includes some metrics around ongoing support and hosting related to SAP.

SAP IMPLEMENTATION PROVIDERS EVALUATION OVERVIEW
To assess the state of the SAP services market and to see how the vendors stack up against each other,
Forrester evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of top SAP systems integration rms.

Evaluation Spans Industry Skill, Functional and Geographic Breadth, And Range Of Services
A er examining past research, user need assessments, and vendor and expert interviews, we
developed a comprehensive set of evaluation criteria. We evaluated vendors against 60 criteria,
which we grouped into three high-level buckets (see Figure 1):

   · Current o ering. Current o ering criteria include the ability to provide end-to-end
implementation services — from initial upfront strategy consulting through to technical
implementation and post-implementation services such as training and change management.
is year’s evaluation also looked at broader services capabilities than past years’ evaluations
by including ability to perform hosting support and ongoing maintenance (o en referred to as
“run” within a design/build/run SAP implementation approach). Client references made up a
signi cant portion of the evaluation, with clients rating providers on business process expertise,
value for the money, industry experience, and overall satisfaction.

   · Strategy. Key areas that Forrester evaluated when considering provider strategy in the SAP
implementation market include pricing innovation, relationship and co-development with
SAP, and investment in the SAP practice. Key metrics include relationship status with SAP, key
awards that demonstrate ability and leadership in the market, and pricing exibility aligned
     with buyer needs.

   · Market presence. To score a provider’s market presence, Forrester evaluated its client base
across key geographies (North America, EMEA, Asia Paci c, and Latin America) as well as
overall sta dedicated to the SAP practice. Furthermore, we considered overall nancials for the
SAP practice as well as growth within SAP services.

Financial and other quantitative data were collected at the start of the fourth quarter in 2008, while
vendor brie ngs, client reference interviews, and surveys were conducted during the rst quarter of
2009.

6 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009
For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals

SAP IMPLEMENTATION SERVICES OPTIONS VARY BY GEOGRAPHY AND BREADTH OF NEEDS
e evaluation uncovered a market in which (see Figure 3):

       · Accenture and IBM lead the pack. Accenture and IBM are in a class of their own as the two
largest, global, cross-industry providers that have strong capabilities across the full life cycle
of strategy consulting, implementation, support, and hosting services. ey have decades
of experience in SAP and armies of quali ed consultants across the globe, making them key
choices especially for larger, complex, multinational rollouts.

       · Capgemini and Deloitte o er competitive options. Deloitte and Capgemini o er a strong
mix of strategy consulting expertise — particularly around key industries — and the ability
to delivery value for the money. Deloitte is renowned for its top-tier strategy consulting
and business process expertise, and has speci c industry expertise across a range of sectors
including consumer products, aerospace and defense, and utilities. Capgemini has a heavy focus
in Europe as well as strength in key industries including energy and utilities, CPG/retail, and
         public sector.

·O shore rms continue to build both core implementation and strategy skills. O shore
rms are o en seen as low-cost alternatives that provide primarily technical implementation
resources, ongoing application management and support, and/or testing. However, leading
o shore providers such as Infosys, TCS, and Wipro continue to build out strategy consulting
practices and are proving their value in complex, transformational engagements. HCL made
the most notable leap since Forrester’s last evaluation of this market through its acquisition
of Axon, which makes it a serious contender across all phases of the SAP implementation life
cycle. Cognizant is also a key o shore services provider in this category, di erentiating through
signi cant focus in areas like BI, customer relationship management (CRM), and governance,
         risk, compliance (GRC).

       · Logica, Siemens, and T-Systems are strong choices for European rms. European services
buyers o en struggle to nd the right mix of scale, skill set, and geographic presence. Beyond
the top multinational rms, European services buyers should also consider rms like Logica,
Siemens, and T-Systems, which all boast primarily European implementations in their client
bases. T-Systems is the best t for rms seeking a full build-through-run option; Logica has
strength across strategy consulting as well as technical implementations and a broad set of non-
SAP applications; and Siemens is particularly strong in its core focus verticals: manufacturing
(discrete, process, and automotive), healthcare, energy, and public sector.

       · Firms with strong hosting/operational capabilities t buyers that seek full life-cycle support.
Although many of the rms in this Forrester Wave have strong services around operations
and hosting, some of these rms are o cial SAP AMS and/or hosting partners and o er a
particularly compelling solution for rms seeking an implementation partner that can provide

VENDOR PROFILES
Leaders
   · Accenture. Accenture, one of the two global giants in the SAP implementation space, has
had a deep relationship with SAP for three decades. e provider has extensive, far-reaching
SAP services skills and breadth of expertise across strategy and transformational consulting,
technical implementation, post-implementation services (such as training and change
management), and ongoing application maintenance and hosting. e provider also has an
impressive army of low-cost, o shore delivery resources spread across key geographies such as
India, China, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

   · IBM Global Services. IBM, one of the two global giants in the SAP implementation space, has
had a long-standing relationship with SAP that goes back 30-plus years, and it was SAP’s rst
global alliance partner. IBM not only o ers extensive strategy and business consulting, technical
implementation skills, and post-implementation support — but as a hardware vendor with a
nancing arm, it can o en bundle together innovative deals and pricing arrangements for its

10 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009
For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals

        · Capgemini. Capgemini o ers a solid mix of technical expertise, strategy consulting, and
ongoing maintenance, support, and hosting. e provider does a signi cant percentage of its
work in EMEA, but also has strong presence across North America and Asia Paci c. Capgemini
invests heavily in innovation around technical development such as cross-industry initiatives
around SOA and its industry-speci c “Ready-to-Run” prebuilt solutions.

        · Deloitte. Deloitte is a Leader in SAP implementation services and particularly excels at the
transformational and process consulting elements of implementations. Its Dbriefs executive
seminar series and similar initiatives o er a way for rms to learn about industry trends and
business drivers beyond just the technology. Deloitte has particular expertise in industries
like food and beverage, manufacturing, aerospace and defense, automotive, life sciences,
retail, government, utilities, and chemicals. However, Deloitte has less of a footprint in
low-cost delivery geographies and technical IP than some of the other Leaders in the SAP
          implementation market.

        · CSC. CSC provides strong value for the technical phases of an implementation including
hosting and application maintenance; many clients consider it because of this ability to o er
full support from build through to run. CSC also continues to build out strategy and process
consulting skills at the rm level in areas like nancial services/insurance, healthcare, and public
sector — meaning these experts can partner up with the SAP practice to deliver a broader set of
          implementation services.

        · HCL AXON. HCL has long had a focus on operational and low-cost services in the SAP space.
However, its 2008 acquisition of Axon makes it a compelling option for the full life cycle of
implementation services starting with upfront strategy and transformational consulting through
to the technical implementation and ongoing support. Key areas of industry focus include
utilities, public sector, aerospace, and travel and logistics.

        · Infosys. Infosys is one of the top India-based consultancies in the SAP space. Its strategy and
consulting services continue to grow, making it able to compete and win business against
the largest multinational providers. Infosys has strong vertical expertise particularly across
manufacturing, life sciences, CPG, and utilities. Infosys o ers many compelling pricing and
delivery models across implementation as well as ongoing support and maintenance of SAP.

        · Wipro. Wipro has some of the strongest SAP skills of Indian providers and was the second
o shore rm to earn the SAP global services partner designation. Wipro excels at technical and
operational elements of SAP services. It also continues to build out consulting skills under its
WCS (Wipro Consulting Services) brand as well as (at the other end of the spectrum) its hosting
capabilities, including its acquisition of Infocrossing.

   · HP-EDS. HP-EDS campaigns on the overall value of its integrated “Designed for Run” approach,
which looks at the overall life-cycle costs and bene ts of SAP beyond the initial implementation.
e provider o ers one of the largest hosting/support capabilities in the SAP space (from the
legacy HP side) as well as leading operational and maintenance capabilities (from the legacy
EDS side).Although the provider can do standalone implementations that it transitions to the
client, its value proposition is most compelling to rms seeking ongoing support and operations
     from their implementation partner.

   · TCS. TCS was the rst Indian provider to become a global SAP services partner and continues
to be a leading o shore rm in the SAP services market. TCS has continued to invest in strategy
consulting, making it a candidate for large, complex, transformational projects, and its global
footprint allows it to serve clients across all of the major geographies. Key areas of industry
focus include manufacturing, retail, and utilities.

Strong Performers
   · Fujitsu. Fujitsu aggressively built its SAP practice through numerous acquisitions as well
as organic growth. e provider has continued to focus on integrating services across all
geographies and divisions to provide a more seamless, consistent experience for clients. Globally,
Fujitsu is not only an SAP services partner but also an SAP technology partner and SAP hosting
partner. Due to its legacy of growth by acquisition, however, speci c strengths and industry skill
     still vary by geography.

   · Logica. Logica is one of the strongest European-centric providers in the SAP services space,
although it has minimal focus outside of this geography — making it a great choice for
European clients but not as applicable to large-scale global rollouts or clients in other regions
of the world. Logica has a broad range of SAP services and heavily serves clients across public
sector, nancial services, transportation, and utilities.

   · L&T Infotech. L&T Infotech is smaller than some of the other o shore providers included in
this evaluation, but has a strong track record in SAP, especially in industries like manufacturing,
energy, and petrochemicals. e provider is a signi cant investor in developing IP, such as
xApps and prebuilt solutions that speed time-to-value like its Fleet Management, Transportation
     Management, and Dealer Portal solutions.

   · Siemens IT Solutions and Services. Siemens specializes in SAP deployments, having grown
externally facing services from its massive internal SAP support capability. It is particularly
strong in Europe, where it generates approximately two-thirds of its business, and in key
industries such as automotive, healthcare, utilities, and public sector.

12 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009
For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals

        · Cognizant. Cognizant continues to grow its SAP services practice and has established itself
as a key o shore provider in the SAP market. Although it has a range of SAP expertise, it
heavily di erentiates through emerging/high growth areas of SAP including BI, CRM, and
GRC. Cognizant also has established a strong presence in the ongoing support and testing
          components of SAP deployments.

        · T-Systems. T-Systems is a strong choice for European rms seeking an integrated provider
with implementation as well as operational expertise. It is one of the few rms strong in
implementation services that has also earned the SAP global hosting provider designation.
However, T-Systems sold o its low-cost delivery resources to Cognizant and now o ers these
through partnership. It still retains some low-cost delivery, particularly nearshore for European
clients, but at a small scale.

        · So tek. So tek is a well-known IT services provider in Mexico and is broadly known
throughout Latin America as a leader in the SAP space. So tek has a signi cant track record
in key industries such as aviation, oil and gas, and pharmaceuticals. So tek’s strongest area is
around SAP support and maintenance as well as technical elements of the implementation, but
it does process consulting related to SAP modules as well.

        · Neoris. Neoris has grown rapidly and is a leading provider of nearshore services to North
American clients as well as local services for Latin American clients. Neoris gained valuable
experience through the SAP implementation for its former parent company Cemex, and then
bought a variety of companies to enhance its overall capabilities in IT services. Neoris has
established a strong reputation in the SAP market in the regions it supports.

     Online Resource
e online version of Figure 3 is an Excel-based vendor comparison tool that provides detailed
     product evaluations and customizable rankings.

Data Sources Used In This Forrester Wave
Forrester used a combination of key data sources to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each
     solution:

        · Vendor surveys. Forrester surveyed vendors on their capabilities as they relate to the evaluation
criteria. Once we analyzed the completed vendor surveys, we conducted vendor calls where
necessary to gather details of vendor quali cations.

August 10, 2009 © 2009, Forrester Research, Inc. Reproduction Prohibited
The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 13
For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals

   · Executive strategy brie ngs. We asked vendors to conduct an executive strategy brie ng to
cover key di erentiators and value proposition to the market as well as strategic direction.
We used ndings from these discussions to augment the written survey responses and client
     reference feedback.

   · Customer reference calls. To validate product and vendor quali cations, Forrester also required
a minimum of eight references to complete a Web survey. Following the Web survey, we also
conducted reference calls with key client references.

The Forrester Wave Methodology
We conduct primary research to develop a list of vendors that meet our criteria to be evaluated
in this market. From that initial pool of vendors, we then narrow our nal list. We choose these
vendors based on: 1) product t; 2) customer success; and 3) Forrester client demand. We eliminate
vendors that have limited customer references and products that don’t t the scope of our evaluation.

A er examining past research, user need assessments, and vendor and expert interviews, we develop
the initial evaluation criteria. To evaluate the vendors and their products against our set of criteria, we
gather details of product quali cations through a combination of lab evaluations, questionnaires,
demos, and/or discussions with client references. We send evaluations to the vendors for their review,
and we adjust the evaluations to provide the most accurate view of vendor o erings and strategies.

We set default weightings to re ect our analysis of the needs of large user companies — and/or
other scenarios as outlined in the Forrester Wave document — and then score the vendors based
on a clearly de ned scale. ese default weightings are intended only as a starting point, and we
encourage readers to adapt the weightings to t their individual needs through the Excel-based
tool. e nal scores generate the graphical depiction of the market based on current o ering,
strategy, and market presence. Forrester intends to update vendor evaluations regularly as product
capabilities and vendor strategies evolve.

Accenture and IBM Lead SAP Implementation Wave

  • 2. For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals Includes a Forrester Wave™ August 10, 2009 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 Accenture and IBM Lead As The Landscape Continues To Evolve by Liz Herbert with Christine Ferrusi Ross and Philipp Karcher E XEC U TI V E SUM MA RY In Forrester’s 60-criteria evaluation of SAP implementation providers, we found that Accenture and IBM led the pack because of the breadth and depth of their SAP implementation capabilities. Both of these rms are strong across a wide range of industries, all aspects of the implementation life cycle, and widespread geographies. Capgemini and Deloitte remain strong choices as well — and both of these rms continue to build out their global delivery capabilities to remain cost-competitive. HCL has notably strengthened its SAP practice through its acquisition of Axon in 2008, which signi cantly added to its consulting and implementation expertise. O shore pure-plays like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro remain strong alternatives in this market. Firms with a signi cant specialized focus, such as those attending to the “run” aspect of SAP like CSC, HP-EDS, and Fujitsu; European-centric rms like Logica, Siemens IT Solutions and Services, and T-Systems; and nearshore providers Neoris and So tek are also strong choices for more niche client needs. • 3. 2 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals STRONG BUSINESS CASES AND HIGH ROI MATTER MORE THAN EVER IN SAP PROJECTS Firms continue to invest in SAP implementation projects, both rst-time SAP users and upgrades, focusing on a range of projects perceived as high value such as business intelligence, analytics, and industry-speci c modules. With the economic downturn, rms o en proceed with caution — and seek partners that can help deliver fast time-to-value, high ROI, and innovative pricing and resource allocation models. Providers have invested signi cantly in aligning to these market needs — creating accelerators, tools, and templates that speed time-to-deployment and reduce implementation cost and risk. Providers also continue to drive pricing innovations, such as outcome-based pricing and predictable, xed-fee engagements. For most SAP services buyers the key deciding factors are a combination of proposed approach and industry as well as functional expertise. Estimation Tools, Risk Reduction, And Predictability Are Key To Achieving ROI Facing signi cant budget pressures and determined to get high ROI out of their SAP spend, rms seek predictable, high-value implementation services from their providers. Key areas that matter to buyers include: · Accurate project estimating tools with exible pricing options. Firms are more concerned than ever with having predictable costs and alignment to business bene ts. Most of the leading providers have exible pricing options — such as milestone-based payments, value-based pricing, nancing arrangements, and pay-as-you-go services. Furthermore, providers continue to build out their low-cost delivery capabilities to ensure that they can support clients with the right resources at the right cost. · Accelerators and prepackaged o erings that reduce risk and speed time-to-value. Accelerators and prebuilt solutions matter more than ever in this economic environment as rms seek to speed time-to-value, reduce costs, and have lower risk, more predictable implementations. Providers continue to invest in these areas — from tools and templates, to xApp development, to prepackaged solutions. Most of these solutions are geared toward speci c industries, meaning that they are o en developed with built-in best practices that providers have gained from previous implementations. Buyers should realize that these solutions can take them a long way, but will likely still require customization. · Track record of success within an industry and speci c application. Buyers’ top factor in selecting an implementation partner is typically the provider’s relevant experience — industry as well as functional. Many clients look for past implementation success including tangible bene ts delivered, evidence of prebuilt IP speci c to that industry (such as xApps or fuller, prepackaged solutions), and number of sta experienced or certi ed in certain areas. For SAP, this is o en experience with the IS product lines or industry-speci c xApps. August 10, 2009 © 2009, Forrester Research, Inc. Reproduction Prohibited
  • 4. The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 3 For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals Buyers Seek Breadth Of Services From Consulting Through To Support And Hosting is year’s evaluation incorporated a broader range of services evaluated, moving beyond just implementation o erings to include application maintenance and support as well as hosting and operational capacity. Many buyers seek providers that can o er this full life cycle of services, reducing or eliminating transition costs and potentially gaining cost advantages by creating a bigger overall opportunity for the service provider. erefore, this Forrester Wave, while still primarily focused on implementation, also includes some metrics around ongoing support and hosting related to SAP. SAP IMPLEMENTATION PROVIDERS EVALUATION OVERVIEW To assess the state of the SAP services market and to see how the vendors stack up against each other, Forrester evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of top SAP systems integration rms. Evaluation Spans Industry Skill, Functional and Geographic Breadth, And Range Of Services A er examining past research, user need assessments, and vendor and expert interviews, we developed a comprehensive set of evaluation criteria. We evaluated vendors against 60 criteria, which we grouped into three high-level buckets (see Figure 1): · Current o ering. Current o ering criteria include the ability to provide end-to-end implementation services — from initial upfront strategy consulting through to technical implementation and post-implementation services such as training and change management. is year’s evaluation also looked at broader services capabilities than past years’ evaluations by including ability to perform hosting support and ongoing maintenance (o en referred to as “run” within a design/build/run SAP implementation approach). Client references made up a signi cant portion of the evaluation, with clients rating providers on business process expertise, value for the money, industry experience, and overall satisfaction. · Strategy. Key areas that Forrester evaluated when considering provider strategy in the SAP implementation market include pricing innovation, relationship and co-development with SAP, and investment in the SAP practice. Key metrics include relationship status with SAP, key awards that demonstrate ability and leadership in the market, and pricing exibility aligned with buyer needs. · Market presence. To score a provider’s market presence, Forrester evaluated its client base across key geographies (North America, EMEA, Asia Paci c, and Latin America) as well as overall sta dedicated to the SAP practice. Furthermore, we considered overall nancials for the SAP practice as well as growth within SAP services. Financial and other quantitative data were collected at the start of the fourth quarter in 2008, while vendor brie ngs, client reference interviews, and surveys were conducted during the rst quarter of 2009. © 2009, Forrester Research, Inc. • 7. 6 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals SAP IMPLEMENTATION SERVICES OPTIONS VARY BY GEOGRAPHY AND BREADTH OF NEEDS e evaluation uncovered a market in which (see Figure 3): · Accenture and IBM lead the pack. Accenture and IBM are in a class of their own as the two largest, global, cross-industry providers that have strong capabilities across the full life cycle of strategy consulting, implementation, support, and hosting services. ey have decades of experience in SAP and armies of quali ed consultants across the globe, making them key choices especially for larger, complex, multinational rollouts. · Capgemini and Deloitte o er competitive options. Deloitte and Capgemini o er a strong mix of strategy consulting expertise — particularly around key industries — and the ability to delivery value for the money. Deloitte is renowned for its top-tier strategy consulting and business process expertise, and has speci c industry expertise across a range of sectors including consumer products, aerospace and defense, and utilities. Capgemini has a heavy focus in Europe as well as strength in key industries including energy and utilities, CPG/retail, and public sector. ·O shore rms continue to build both core implementation and strategy skills. O shore rms are o en seen as low-cost alternatives that provide primarily technical implementation resources, ongoing application management and support, and/or testing. However, leading o shore providers such as Infosys, TCS, and Wipro continue to build out strategy consulting practices and are proving their value in complex, transformational engagements. HCL made the most notable leap since Forrester’s last evaluation of this market through its acquisition of Axon, which makes it a serious contender across all phases of the SAP implementation life cycle. Cognizant is also a key o shore services provider in this category, di erentiating through signi cant focus in areas like BI, customer relationship management (CRM), and governance, risk, compliance (GRC). · Logica, Siemens, and T-Systems are strong choices for European rms. European services buyers o en struggle to nd the right mix of scale, skill set, and geographic presence. Beyond the top multinational rms, European services buyers should also consider rms like Logica, Siemens, and T-Systems, which all boast primarily European implementations in their client bases. T-Systems is the best t for rms seeking a full build-through-run option; Logica has strength across strategy consulting as well as technical implementations and a broad set of non- SAP applications; and Siemens is particularly strong in its core focus verticals: manufacturing (discrete, process, and automotive), healthcare, energy, and public sector. · Firms with strong hosting/operational capabilities t buyers that seek full life-cycle support. Although many of the rms in this Forrester Wave have strong services around operations and hosting, some of these rms are o cial SAP AMS and/or hosting partners and o er a particularly compelling solution for rms seeking an implementation partner that can provide August 10, 2009 © 2009, Forrester Research, Inc. • 11. 10 The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals · Capgemini. Capgemini o ers a solid mix of technical expertise, strategy consulting, and ongoing maintenance, support, and hosting. e provider does a signi cant percentage of its work in EMEA, but also has strong presence across North America and Asia Paci c. Capgemini invests heavily in innovation around technical development such as cross-industry initiatives around SOA and its industry-speci c “Ready-to-Run” prebuilt solutions. · Deloitte. Deloitte is a Leader in SAP implementation services and particularly excels at the transformational and process consulting elements of implementations. Its Dbriefs executive seminar series and similar initiatives o er a way for rms to learn about industry trends and business drivers beyond just the technology. Deloitte has particular expertise in industries like food and beverage, manufacturing, aerospace and defense, automotive, life sciences, retail, government, utilities, and chemicals. However, Deloitte has less of a footprint in low-cost delivery geographies and technical IP than some of the other Leaders in the SAP implementation market. · CSC. CSC provides strong value for the technical phases of an implementation including hosting and application maintenance; many clients consider it because of this ability to o er full support from build through to run. CSC also continues to build out strategy and process consulting skills at the rm level in areas like nancial services/insurance, healthcare, and public sector — meaning these experts can partner up with the SAP practice to deliver a broader set of implementation services. · HCL AXON. HCL has long had a focus on operational and low-cost services in the SAP space. However, its 2008 acquisition of Axon makes it a compelling option for the full life cycle of implementation services starting with upfront strategy and transformational consulting through to the technical implementation and ongoing support. Key areas of industry focus include utilities, public sector, aerospace, and travel and logistics. · Infosys. Infosys is one of the top India-based consultancies in the SAP space. Its strategy and consulting services continue to grow, making it able to compete and win business against the largest multinational providers. Infosys has strong vertical expertise particularly across manufacturing, life sciences, CPG, and utilities. Infosys o ers many compelling pricing and delivery models across implementation as well as ongoing support and maintenance of SAP. · Wipro. • 14. The Forrester Wave™: SAP Implementation Providers, Q3 2009 13 For Sourcing & Vendor Management Professionals · Executive strategy brie ngs. We asked vendors to conduct an executive strategy brie ng to cover key di erentiators and value proposition to the market as well as strategic direction. We used ndings from these discussions to augment the written survey responses and client reference feedback. · Customer reference calls. To validate product and vendor quali cations, Forrester also required a minimum of eight references to complete a Web survey. Following the Web survey, we also conducted reference calls with key client references. The Forrester Wave Methodology We conduct primary research to develop a list of vendors that meet our criteria to be evaluated in this market. From that initial pool of vendors, we then narrow our nal list. We choose these vendors based on: 1) product t; 2) customer success; and 3) Forrester client demand. We eliminate vendors that have limited customer references and products that don’t t the scope of our evaluation. A er examining past research, user need assessments, and vendor and expert interviews, we develop the initial evaluation criteria. To evaluate the vendors and their products against our set of criteria, we gather details of product quali cations through a combination of lab evaluations, questionnaires, demos, and/or discussions with client references. We send evaluations to the vendors for their review, and we adjust the evaluations to provide the most accurate view of vendor o erings and strategies. We set default weightings to re ect our analysis of the needs of large user companies — and/or other scenarios as outlined in the Forrester Wave document — and then score the vendors based on a clearly de ned scale. ese default weightings are intended only as a starting point, and we encourage readers to adapt the weightings to t their individual needs through the Excel-based tool. e nal scores generate the graphical depiction of the market based on current o ering, strategy, and market presence. Forrester intends to update vendor evaluations regularly as product capabilities and vendor strategies evolve. © 2009, Forrester Research, Inc. Reproduction Prohibited August 10, 2009
