3. What is Unicode
• Unicode provides a unique number for every character. They
store letters and other characters by assigning a no. for each
one. We use ASCII code for writing English language but this
is not sufficient to write all English letters and other language.
ASCII is only for English language.
Like for Oriya letter “ ଏ ” Unicode unique no. is “0B0F”
Hindi letter “ ए ” Unicode unique no. is “090F”

allows us to edit existing fonts and can convert from one font
format to another.
• FontForge is an extremely power full software system offering
practically all the features of FontLab

24. How to type Indic language.
Steps for saving new design font file in Windows 7 .
1. First save the new font in .otf format
2. Go to C drive.
3. Open windows Fonts folder.
4. Save and install that .otf file in font folder
Steps for install Indic keyboard layout language in Windows 7.
1. Go to Control panel
2. Click on Clock, Language, and Region.
3. Click on change display languages.
4. On keyboards and languages click change keyboards.
5. Click on Add button and choose different Indic languages
6. Click Ok button
7. At the task bar an new icon will appear, choose Indic language and type in
ms-word or notepad etc..

26. Conclusion
1. The new Unicode Font Designing software FontForge
marks the knowledge of creation of different font designs
and also editing font designs using very unique ways that
helps creating font styles of various different languages
reducing complexities.
2. This technique proves to be very useful and advantageous
in case of designing font styles of those languages that
might have one or more font design only such as Hindi,
Bengali, Oriya, Telugu etc.
3. Using this software one can design his own fonts.
