TASTE & PREFERANCES OF
PEOPLE IN GOA
Water Sports
 Water sports have seen a stupendous growth all along
the Goa and have been largely responsible for the first
Windsurfing Regatta, now an annual event. This,
along with the Open Board Sailing Competition
that lasts up to a week, are events that all water
enthusiasts have come to look forward to.
 The best season for enjoying water sports in Goa is
from October to May when the skies here are cloudless
and blue, and the waters placid.
Popular water sports
 Wind Surfing- The morning breeze in Goa is light and steady.
 just right for learners; while stronger winds that set in during
 the afternoons offer a perfect challenge for the more experienced.
 Dinghy Sailing- A pleasant change from windsurfing is dinghy
sailing, often referred to as beer and sandwich sailing. With the
winds in Goa gentle most of the time, this particular sport offers its
participants much time to relax.
 Scuba diving- It is also fast gaining popularity. Underwater
 visibility in the more tranquil of Goa’s bays and lagoons ranges
 from five to 10 meters. Attractive coral heads, lobsters, bright colored
fish, and other marine life can be conveniently explored in these
shallow waters.
 Water Skiing-For the speed freaks Goa offers the thrills of venturing
into the sea on speedboats.
 Other Water Sports-High fliers amongst the speed lovers can opt
for Parasailing. A more recent addition is the water scooter. They
are readily available at Dona Paula and Candolim beach.
Goan Cuisine
 The cuisine of Goa has an interesting mix of influences
from all the cultures that it came into contact with. There
are two separate traditions in cuisine influenced by the
respective religions of Hinduism and Christianity. The
Portuguese cooking has a strong and telling influence on
Goan Cuisine .
 Goan food is simple but one has to bear in mind that
most, though not all, of it is chili hot, spicy, and pungent.
A typical Goan would prefer seafood to all other meats
and would use a lot of coconut & tamarind for cooking.
 With over a hundred kilometers of coastline it's no
shocker that fish and seafood are staples here. A Goan
meal is incomplete without Fish, Rice and Curry cooked
with coconut. Apart from fish though Pork is Widely
available and eaten mainly among the Christians.
Goan Cuisine
 The most popular Goan dishes are-
 Pork Vindaloo
 Fish Recheado
 Prawn Balchao
 Sorpotel
 Chouricos (Spicy Goan Sausages)
 Chicken Cafreal
 Dodol(Goan sweet)
 An accompaniment to wash down all Goan food is
the locally brewed “Feni”. Though other forms of
liquor are readily available across the state, the
Goans are as emotional about their feni as they are
about their food.
Goan Nightlife
 Nightlife in Goa is exciting and there are many ways to
liven up the evening. Goans enjoy going out . Almost
every third house has a bar-cum-restaurant.
 The place may not be anything special, usually just a room
in the house that has been opened to the public with a
couple of chairs and a table. But the atmosphere is great -
totally relaxing and extremely conducive to an enjoyable
night out with friends and family.
 Most of the places serve exquisite seafood and other Goan
delicacies and have well stocked bars.
 The hottest place to visit and to be seen at in Goa today is
“Titos” which is right on the beach. Tito’s, a legend that
started the party fever in Goa, is usually jam-packed with
people. There's also a new discotheque 'The
Beachotheque' where you can dance the night away. Or
you could check out Lidos in Dona Paula.
 Beach parties happen at Anjuna, Morjim and Palolem
beach with just music and drinks.
Goan Nightlife
 Ingo’s Saturday Night Market at Arpora has hundreds of
stalls, with all kinds of accessories and is abuzz with music
and food. You’ll see the most outlandish sights and some
interesting people walking along with a drink in one hand
and a shopping list in the other!
 The Indian part of the market has Kashmiri items, wooden
articles, silks, pashminas, masks, antiques and home
accessories.
 The part of the market run by foreigners has leather masks,
clothes popularized by hippies, amazing hand-made shoes,
furniture, paintings, CDs and clothes galore.
Goan Music
 Goa is often considered as a nest of singing birds and the
credit for that goes to the melodious Goa Music. In other
words, music is an essential part of the life of Goa and one
can't be left untouched by it during Goa Trip.
 Some forms of songs and music of Goa: -
 Suvari- the Folk Music
 Mando- the Latin Taste
 Other Popular Music Forms:
'Banvad', 'Cantaram', 'Dasra Vadan', 'Gadya Ramayan', 'Gaun
Kani', 'Gudulya Geetam', 'Jat', 'Pavada', 'Lavni', Bhajan-Dindi',
'Lagan Geet' and 'Carol Singing' are some of the other forms
of Goa music that you hear in Goa.
How to attract more tourists???
 Safety
It has been seen that many of the tourists fascinated
by blue water of beaches take a plunge into sea without
being aware what awaits them.
experience has shown that most of them have never
seen sea water before and have been risking their lives
on self assurance of pleasurable dips which in most
cases have resulted in fatal deaths.
Goa government should start in integrated beach
safety. It should provide well trained lifeguards, well
trained security personal on beaches modern water
crafts, modern communication gadgets,24 hrs
electronic surveillance.
Government should take concrete steps to stop terror
attacks.
CHECK ON HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Some of the stakeholders of hospitality industry place
their rates as exorbitantly high under the guise of peak
season therefore deterring the tourist from visiting the
place and thus tagging the place as expensive
destination. There is no justification for some of them
charging 2-3 times the card rate during the so called
peak season.
SEEING BEYOND THE BEACHES
Hinterland of Goa is quite different from coastal Goa.
Tourist all over the world have been attracted to
Portuguese customs and and traditions. This is USP of
Goa
HERITAGE TOURISM
Goa has many heritage buildings, temples and
churches. Government can identify old homes. They
can be opened for on seeing and can even be given on
rents to the tourists.
MULTILINGUAL SIGNAGE SYSTEMS
These systems are adopted by Russia and
Scandinavian nations. In these system information
about a destination is given in various languages.
ECOTOURISM
Goa has a rich flora fauna and culture. Government
should promote ecotourism
DEPORTED TO CLASSROOM
