A year and some change gone by at National University College. I made this presentation to keep track of most of what I did in here instead of just individually adding the stuff in my blog. Designing for an educational institution such as this is a bit more challenging as they tend to be more traditional than most and adding a bit more flare to the designs is more challenging If it were for most of them we would still be looking at white papers and typeface on web pages and promotions. Lots of developing, designing, tweaking and programming and some editing and animating was involved on the final products. Now I'll stick this in my blog and it'll help me keep track of my progress.
3. Standard Promotions Design This section includes the design for standard format publications which may include but is not limited to: Brochures /Pamphlets Promotional/informational sheets Post Cards E-mail “Teasers” Stationary. Some publications are done in collaboration with other departments.
13. MinorTweaks Minor Tweaks are modifications that most people won’t notice unless they are paying attention. They are made in order to improve the look of certain elements. This one was done to integrate the Nachocharacter into the Mayagüez 2010 flyer.
19. Online Courses and GraphicDesign This was a presentation made for faculty trainings. It explains the importance of using visual comunication to its fullest in an online course.
23. Web Design and Development Projects All Research and Development for the Web Pages and other projects are done through on site by Juan C. Peña. Programming done in HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, some PHP, Actionscript or any other programming language needed to get the end result. Layouts are usually planned, sketched out, translated to a design concept in Illustrator or Photoshop(as needed), then sectioned and programmed using Dreamweaver before being tested on multiple browsers to ensure fully or acceptable cross browser compatibility. In some cases some code may come from donors or developed based on research made.
24. AlternativeSeasonalHeaders This was a special project for the previous version of the webpage in which the banner would change to match the season(by date). It was later scrapped.
25. BlackboardLoginCustomDesign This project was coordinated in strong collaboration with the Blackboard administrator(Pedro Nazario) to best meet the needs of our team and our students.

29. Online Bulletin Board This page presents the user with the same announcements they would be presented on campus it serves a dual purpose of online publishing the announcements and ease of access. The images are the same used on the printed promotional flyers.
30. Browser Compatibility Test This is a Browser compatibility Page It will check for the most commonly used plug-ins and scripts needed for a user to properly access the blackboard educational platform and complete his/her tasks. The original code for the test was kindly provided by Shannon Meisenehimer, University of Central Missouri and adapted to fit the design and needs of this Distance Education Department. This project was strongly studied and several scripts were analyzed to pick the best possible set for the task. Mr. Meisenehimer was kind enough to provide me with the latest most up to date version of the code.
31. Online Tutorials This part of the page contains the lists of tutorials made for our staff and students. It marks each link for the type(format) of tutorial.
32. Support Center This Support ticket center is based on Osticket which is an open source platform. It has been Aesthetically customized to meet our needs and has some minor tweaks to the source code. It helps to better manage the needs of our students and staff while keeping track of the progress of each particular case. This project was coordinated in strong collaboration with the Blackboard administrator(Pedro Nazario) to best meet the needs of our team.
33. InteractiveMap Flash Based Interactive map of National University College : Bayamon (also has a PPT of the main map (not the interactions)) In it’s initial screen it also displays the current location of the Distance Education Department. It includes a Floor by floor layout of the main building with some important features highlighted. It has “walk through” photos of the Labs. This special project is in need of revision and expansion.
39. NUC-Online Facebook This Facebook page was made and mantained to keep close contact with our students and to take advantage of the promotional aspects of the facebook community. Formatting and uploading of the promotional information is uploaded to this page to inform the our community. It’s being maintained by our Blackboard Administrator with design help by our Graphic designer.
40. Mobile Development The original results from the research and development part of the Mobile Based Adaptation for the web page. This concept has been tested on an iPhone 3GS and some minor issues are being addressed. The original base code will be integrated on the joomla based module to match the design. This project is still under development. With the new page design some other tweaks may be made to the design.
41. NUC Online WebpageMigration Steps are being taken to migrate our webpage from the current CMS to a joomla CMS to keep the page and content more manageable. This will also aid in the re-design process as the content will be independent of the page layout. This process will also allow the mobile project to be implemented at a faster pace making out page accessible and readable through mobile devices.
42. Incoming Transmission… More Research and Development is underfoot. We are working on more projects and more technology. Functional designs and better interfaces. We are researching ways to implement these technology with improved reliability and functionality. We will boldly go where no one has gone before…
