What’s In It For Them?

Social media monitoring service Reppler recently surveyed more than 300
hiring professionals to determine when and how job recruiters are screening
job candidates on different social networks.

The study found that more than 90% of recruiters and hiring managers have
visited a potential candidate’s profile on a social network as part of the
screening process. And a whopping 69% of recruiters have rejected a
candidate based on content found on his or her social networking profiles —
an almost equal proportion of recruiters (68%), though, have hired a
candidate based on his or her presence on those networks.

Now what?

             Develop a Digital Portfolio
A digital portfolio is a necessity in your job search
efforts. You can add a few links from your social
pages on Google+, LinkedIn, and Facebook for
prospective employers. If you choose to use social
media for a job search, you can create a marketing
strategy based on the information you want
             prospective employers to know.

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

Digital portfolios show off your communication
skills, creativity with technology and online influence
to your friends, colleagues and/or big brands that
follow you. You will be surprised to know how many
companies find talent by viewing a social page. Are
you ready to take your social connections to the next
             level?

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

College recruiters surf profiles on a consistent basis,
you can make your profile stand out if you plan your
             content strategy:

Provide insight, helpful tips and actionable guides to
show how familiar and experienced you are; soon,
you will have influence and companies will want to
             meet you.

Now what?

                      Create your portfolio here:

Now what?

             Design Your Own Influence
Do you want companies like Nike, Apple, or Dell
following your Twitter page (or hiring you)?

Well, you have to design your own influence by
             placing emphasis on your expertise.

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

An example of this would be a computer
programmer duplicating or developing mobile apps
             for smartphones.

Another example of this would be a graphic designer
that designs and sells marketing collateral to local
             small businesses in their area.

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

Are you good with Photoshop or design layouts? You
can design business cards, magazine covers, or flyers
for small businesses in your local area, but post
samples on your LinkedIn page for a printing
             company to find you.

Influence your prospective industry now, so
companies will start asking you questions about how
you can help them achieve their goals.

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

             Reach Decision-Makers
Decision makers are on all of the top social media
             networks.

When you design your influence and pages, you are
placing your name in digital stack of competitors.

As a student, you are still young and capable of
using creativity to leverage job interviews online.

Now what?

You can use your digital portfolio as proof that you
can do what you claim in your resume.

Make prospective employers see you as a leader
before you graduate; social media can help you
establish a name for yourself without leaving your
             dorm room.

Who are your heroes / she-roes?

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

Consider the following questions when designing
             your pages:

             1. Who is my target audience?
             2. What do I want to share with this group?
             3. How can I make my social pages a hot spot for
             learning and value?
             4. When will I post information to my social sites?
             5. How will my digital portfolio land me a dream
             job?

Thursday, October 25, 12
Now what?

Answer each question thoroughly. Your future can be
shaped by the information you place online; if you
use your social pages for creating a name (or brand)
for yourself, you can get a job doing the same
             techniques for a large company.

A well-planned and executed social media marketing
strategy can increase your chances of getting a job
             with a good company.

How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile

Two biggest mistakes people make in writing a winning resume:

             1) No narrative - just a bunch of boring facts.
             2) Don't make every word earn its way on the page!

First let's talk about the narrative:

If you simply come at me with a bunch of boring facts, I don't care.

One of the things that top performers do with their resumes is that they craft a narrative - they
             tell a story.

Examples for me would be "Social Media Entrepreneur" "the personal trainer of the Social Media
             world".

You only get about 20 seconds. That's it.

You want to highlight your accomplishments.

Your education and experience is secondary to what you can DO for me. (WIIFM)

How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile

Now, let's discuss the making each word earn its way on the page:

50-60% of the words in a resume don't need to be there.

Cut the fluff! Cut all the fat and leave only the file mignon - leave only the best.

In your resume, every single word has to earn its way onto that page.

             Make your words action-verbs like:

             •studied
             •designed
             •executed
             •worked
             •conducted

Very important: You never want to be deceptive. But you DO want to always ask, "What is the reader
thinking?" and "What do I want them to think?"

Whatever you've got in your tool belt, put it on the resume if it's credible and truthful, and also if it will
             resonate with the reader.

How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile

Your resume will have 3 sections:

             1) Experience (or Education if it’s impressive)
             2) Education
             3) Additional Information

Try to keep your resume to 1 or 2 pages TOPS

Remember: Only place the Education section this first if it's something
impressive - otherwise place it at the bottom (just above Additional Information
             section) because they don't care.

  • 16. What’s In It For Them? Social media monitoring service Reppler recently surveyed more than 300 hiring professionals to determine when and how job recruiters are screening job candidates on different social networks. The study found that more than 90% of recruiters and hiring managers have visited a potential candidate’s profile on a social network as part of the screening process. And a whopping 69% of recruiters have rejected a candidate based on content found on his or her social networking profiles — an almost equal proportion of recruiters (68%), though, have hired a candidate based on his or her presence on those networks. • 20. Now what? Develop a Digital Portfolio A digital portfolio is a necessity in your job search efforts. You can add a few links from your social pages on Google+, LinkedIn, and Facebook for prospective employers. If you choose to use social media for a job search, you can create a marketing strategy based on the information you want prospective employers to know. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 21. Now what? Digital portfolios show off your communication skills, creativity with technology and online influence to your friends, colleagues and/or big brands that follow you. You will be surprised to know how many companies find talent by viewing a social page. Are you ready to take your social connections to the next level? Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 22. Now what? College recruiters surf profiles on a consistent basis, you can make your profile stand out if you plan your content strategy: Provide insight, helpful tips and actionable guides to show how familiar and experienced you are; soon, you will have influence and companies will want to meet you. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 23. Now what? Create your portfolio here: ★www.pathbrite.com ★www.LinkedIn.com ★www.Facebook.com/Pages ★www.Twitter.com ★www.Pinterest.com Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 24. Now what? Design Your Own Influence Do you want companies like Nike, Apple, or Dell following your Twitter page (or hiring you)? Well, you have to design your own influence by placing emphasis on your expertise. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 25. Now what? An example of this would be a computer programmer duplicating or developing mobile apps for smartphones. Another example of this would be a graphic designer that designs and sells marketing collateral to local small businesses in their area. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 26. Now what? Are you good with Photoshop or design layouts? You can design business cards, magazine covers, or flyers for small businesses in your local area, but post samples on your LinkedIn page for a printing company to find you. Influence your prospective industry now, so companies will start asking you questions about how you can help them achieve their goals. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 27. Now what? Reach Decision-Makers Decision makers are on all of the top social media networks. When you design your influence and pages, you are placing your name in digital stack of competitors. As a student, you are still young and capable of using creativity to leverage job interviews online. Source: socialmediaexplorer.com Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 28. Now what? You can use your digital portfolio as proof that you can do what you claim in your resume. Make prospective employers see you as a leader before you graduate; social media can help you establish a name for yourself without leaving your dorm room. Source: socialmediaexplorer.com Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 29. Who are your heroes / she-roes? Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 30. Now what? Consider the following questions when designing your pages: 1. Who is my target audience? 2. What do I want to share with this group? 3. How can I make my social pages a hot spot for learning and value? 4. When will I post information to my social sites? 5. How will my digital portfolio land me a dream job? Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 31. Now what? Answer each question thoroughly. Your future can be shaped by the information you place online; if you use your social pages for creating a name (or brand) for yourself, you can get a job doing the same techniques for a large company. A well-planned and executed social media marketing strategy can increase your chances of getting a job with a good company. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 32. Summary •WIIFM ==> WIIFT •Always be thinking, "What is the reader thinking?" and "What do I want them to think?" •Showcase yourself and your abilities •Don’t be afraid to reach out to your heroes and she-roes •Create a winning resume and publish it on LinkedIn - then •Develop and carry out a strategy of how you will use your social sites to attract the interest of key influencers Thursday, October 25, 12

  • 34. BONUS! Yippee! How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile Two biggest mistakes people make in writing a winning resume: 1) No narrative - just a bunch of boring facts. 2) Don't make every word earn its way on the page! First let's talk about the narrative: If you simply come at me with a bunch of boring facts, I don't care. One of the things that top performers do with their resumes is that they craft a narrative - they tell a story. Examples for me would be "Social Media Entrepreneur" "the personal trainer of the Social Media world". You only get about 20 seconds. That's it. You want to highlight your accomplishments. Your education and experience is secondary to what you can DO for me. (WIIFM) Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 35. BONUS! Yippee! How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile Now, let's discuss the making each word earn its way on the page: 50-60% of the words in a resume don't need to be there. Cut the fluff! Cut all the fat and leave only the file mignon - leave only the best. In your resume, every single word has to earn its way onto that page. Make your words action-verbs like: •studied •designed •executed •worked •conducted Very important: You never want to be deceptive. But you DO want to always ask, "What is the reader thinking?" and "What do I want them to think?" Whatever you've got in your tool belt, put it on the resume if it's credible and truthful, and also if it will resonate with the reader. Thursday, October 25, 12
  • 36. BONUS! Yippee! How to Write a Winning Resume For Your LinkedIn Profile Your resume will have 3 sections: 1) Experience (or Education if it’s impressive) 2) Education 3) Additional Information Try to keep your resume to 1 or 2 pages TOPS Remember: Only place the Education section this first if it's something impressive - otherwise place it at the bottom (just above Additional Information section) because they don't care.
