5. The Basin
River Tirana
Tirana river constitutes the principal branch of Ishmi river . It has an ovearll
length of 35 km , and collects the water of Lana river and Limuthi branch. The
main river Ishem is formed downstream Tirana city.
The hydrographic catchment of Ishmi river has a total area of 673 km2. It
has a total length of about 75 km and an average elevation of 357 m. The Ishmi
river is formed by three main rivers Tirana river, Tercuza river and Zeza river

Municipality
Tirana River is the most polluted river in Albania
7. Rivers crossing the Capital Tirana
Two relevant rivers cross the city; the Lana River and the Tirana river. Those two
water bodies meet the main Ishem River downstream of Tirana city.

11. Tirana River Cascade Hydropower Potential
• Tirana’s river watershed energy project, will include the
constructions of two hydropower plants situated in two sites
along the Tirana river flow Zall-Dajt and Brar.
• Average perennial flow rate is 2,7 cubic m/s. The output
energy shall enter the 20 kV substation situated 1000 m far
from the HP plant. The plant will be placed at approximately 8
km from the capital.
• A concession contract is expected to be concluded with the
Ministry of Economy and Energy, once an investor shall be
identified and will take it over.
• Construction permit will be granted by the Government
following the presentation of a detailed design of the work.
