Charles asks…

How is the music scene in Canada?
I enjoy sitting down at a quiet lounge where a pianist plays jazz or classical music, after work.

Is there such place in Toronto or Winnipeg, Manitoba? I found a few in Glasgow, Scotland or
Bristol in England. Even Penang, Malaysia has a few.

Please give names of the restaurants, hotels or indie bars?

Cuti-cuti Malaysia answers:

Canada is approximately the same size as Europe and has a population of over 34 million
people. There isn’t any one music “sense” in Canada. It has large variations in music due to
geography, population densy, demographics, immigration, ethnic prefernece, economic
development, etc. — same as any other large country.

Greater Toronto has over ten million people and tens of thousands of bars, clubs, hotels, and
restraunts. If you want listings, try Google Earth or MapQuest. There are 30 reference to “jazz”
within a 2.5 km radius of downtown Toronto including a jazz society, two music schools, a
performing arts center, and dozens of clubs. There were too many results to list on a 25km
radius.

As to the number of hotels and restraunts which might have pianists or jazz performers… There
are 527 hotels within a 25km radius of downtown Toronto. Finding which ones have jazz

performances is something better left to a web search, various blogs, or review sites. Type in
“toronto jazz hotel” and you get thousands of hits.

The Best Jazz Bars in Toronto review lists the top 15, clubs, bars, and restraunts for jazz in the
city. Google “toronto jazz reviews” and you’ve get dozens of newspaper reviews and blogs on
jazz also.

I guess I’ll be hanging out with my bf and his mates in Orchard area and Marina Sq area in
Singapore for a good-time gathering, if not I hope I can go clubbing with my friends and spend
the night dancing!!!

And most importantly, Singapore Tourism Board has decorated Orchard Rd with the longest
and largest Xmas Light-up this year to attract tourists and local citizens to enjoy the festive
season! So I think it’ll be really fun and exciting. And Singapore may be having fireworks too.

Langkawi is of course the best island for a time off. In Langkawi island, other than sunbathing,
snorkeling, and scuba diving. Don’t forget to experience the cable-car ride to Mount Mat
Cincang, 705 m above sea level, the 2nd highest peak in Langkawi. These views are really
magnificent! You can also go to Pantai Tengah, it is the Underwater World Langkawi where you
can view various aquatic and tropical creatures.

In Kuala Lumpur, things to do is shopping i guess. Don’t miss out shopping In Petaling Street or
Kuala Lumpur Chinatown. It is a “must visit” place for many travelers who came to Malaysia.
Other than shopping, Kuala Lumpur ( or KL in short) places of attractions are the Malaysia
National Monument, KL Thean Hou Temple, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, KL Tower (you can
experience to dine in a revolving restaurant at the top of the tower called Seri Angkasa) , KLCC
Petronas Twin Towers, KL Butterfly Park, Bird Park, Deer Park, lake gardens and many other
places. At night, if your are looking for nightlife entertainment, the 3 hottest spots are Asian
Heritage Row at Jalan Doraisamy; Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Bangsar at the Kuala Lumpur city
Periphery.

In Penang, place of attractions are Kek Lok Si Temple, Wat Chayamangkalaram Buddhist
Temple, Penang Bird Park, Penang Botanic Gardens, Snake Temple, just to name a few. If you
want to enjoy some local dishes, you can experience Penang’s most happening spot that is full
of dining culture, a popular seafront promenade in George Town, Penang, the Gurney Drive (or
locally Persiaran Gurney). You can also shop at the night market called Batu Ferringhi Sidewalk
Bazaar at Batu Ferringhi road.
