The Sunday 1 X1 won 8 of the 16 played, drawing 1 and having 7 abandoned, and the Sunday 2 XI

played 14, winning 5 of those games, (4 abandoned). Congratulations to the Saturday 2 XI on a great
achievement. A very satisfying season on the playing front!
There will be a trial net on Saturday 13 April at the Oval, 11.00 – 13.00hrs. Our first game is on Sunday

21 April against Bath 3 X1, away. The following weekend, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April, there will be

trial games at Putney. On 4 May the Saturday 1 XI are playing in the first round of the league cup at

home against either Effingham or Merton, who play the week before, whilst the Saturday 2 X1 will travel
away for a friendly. Sunday friendlies will follow. The league programme commences on Saturday 11

May, 1 XI away to Ripley, and the 2 XI at home to Roehampton. Tony Fenton is busy arranging the
Sunday fixtures and will circulate these on the club web site in the near future.
As ever, our grateful thanks go to Eddie McVarish for all his work on the ground throughout the year.
Some of the scores achieved were a testament to the blood, sweat and tears Eddie puts in. The square
was relayed at the end of the season, as detailed in the financial report. Our thanks go to Doug Shaw who
instigated the grant and to everybody who contributed to its fruition.
The AGM is on Wednesday 27th March 2013 starting at 7.30pm sharp at the The Dukes Head Public
House, Lower Richmond Road (near Putney Bridge). Please make a special effort to attend, as it is your
opportunity to voice issues and concerns about your club. Annual subscriptions have been at their
current level for the past 11 years. The Committee are proposing the club raise them to £100.00
full membership, £40.00 under 18s/students/unemployed, non-playing £20.00. I will gladly accept
cheques on the night for your playing membership.
The club has a new website which holds a wealth of information, and the text facility has gone a long way
in improving communication. Our thanks go to Ben Brook for his time and expertise in this field. The site
can be accessed via (www.putneycricketclub.com). Although we are relying on the website/texts as our
main communication tool, it is imperative the Team Secretary, has each players current e-mail address,
phone numbers, (home/work/mobile), and address. Gary Peters, who has performed this role for a
number of years has decided to stand down. Our thanks go to Gary for all the time and effort he has
given. We are fortunate to have a willing party to fulfil Gary’s shoes, and welcome James Peters to the

Congratulations to Dan and Emma Parmar on the birth of a baby girl, Thea May, on 14.04.2012, Richard
and Pam Brambley on the birth of a baby boy, Jackson Stuart, on 19.05.2012, Simon and Tracey Masters
on the birth of a baby girl, Georgina Emily on 15.11.2012, Vikrant and Shilpa Sehgal on the birth of a baby
girl, Saisha, on 25.01.2013, and to Matthew and Natalie Atkins on the birth of a baby girl, Arabella on
12.02.2013. No wonder running between the wickets looked lame in 2012 !! Congratulations also to Gary
Peters and Sarah who tied the knot on 13.04.2012, to Mike Henshall and Emma who got married on
15.07.2012, to Paul McCann and Anj who got married on 28.09.2012, to Simon Thwaites and Alexie who
got married on 29.09.2012. and to Dylan Ramsay and Cherie who got married on 10.11.2012. I hope
‘Saturday and Sunday playing cricket’ was written into your vows!
On a more sombre note, it is with great sadness to have to report the death of Doug Peters, who passed
away on 30 April 2012. A bench in memory of Doug, and Brian Brough, both loyal members and
supporters of the club, will be sited around the ground during the months of February/March 2013.The
Wibberleys, Mark, Megan and Alice are busy fundraising for the charity C.R.Y. (cardiac risk in the young),
in memory of their son/brother Emlyn. There will be a collection box on the bar throughout the summer to
put your loose change in and there is a fundraising page on the Putney CC website, if you would like to
make a donation. So far £3,692.98 has been raised towards the target figure is £6,000.00.

2013 season, so we are looking for a suitable replacement. If you know of anyone that might like to make
a little extra money through the summer months, please let it be known!
The presentation evening held on 24 November 2012 at The Spencer Arms Public House in Putney
proved to be a great success. We tried a different approach for 2012, with a sit down meal. The club
made £1,452.00 from the raffle/auction/donation, less expenses of £583.56, (the bulk of this being the
cost of Oval tickets, cups, plaques, engraving), and the contribution to C.R.Y. of £140.00, total profit =
£755.32. Our thanks go to all those who donated so generously towards the raffle and auction prizes, and
of course the highest bidders on the night. Our thanks also go to Ben Brook for all his hard work in
organising the event. Thanks also go to the lads, detailed in the financial report, who organised the
different social gatherings throughout the season. This year’s presentation evening is going to be held on
Saturday 9 November 2013 at 7.30pm in The Ballroom of The Star and Garter Hotel, 4, Lower
Richmond Road, Putney, next to the bridge. The finer details, including details of the meal, will be
circulated during the summer months, but it is hoped the club will subsidise the evening to keep the price
of tickets affordable. All we would ask is that you commit yourself to attending, and help make the
evening a resounding success. Please make a note in your diary!
The 100 Club of Putney Cricket Club is an ideal way of raising much needed funds and a way of winning
cash prizes. If you would like to become a member, which costs £2.00 per number per month by direct
debit, please contact Ash Baptista, (aashishbaptista@hotmail.com) who is the promoter. Please refer to
the separate entry in the report.
Cricket nets, in preparation for the 2013 season, are underway at The Oval Cricket Ground. We have
three lanes booked every Monday, (two lanes in January, commenced Monday 07 January 2013). Details
are on the web site. If you have any queries contact Dez Telfer by e-mail, (darien.telfer@gmail.com), or
tel. 07905 062207, who is the co-ordinator. It is down to each individual to promote the club to increase
playing membership and secure a full programme of fixtures throughout the year. We have revamped the
net next to the clubhouse, to enable midweek practice during the season and warm up sessions prior to a
weekend game.
The much sought after game against Ventnor on the Isle of Wight has been arranged for Sunday 23
June, 1pm start. The midweek game at Slinfold is on Wednesday 10 July, 2pm start, and for the
enthusiasts amongst us, golfing days will be arranged for Thursday 11 July and Friday 12 July. Please
make a note in your diary and book the time off work well in advance! A pre-season golf day has been
arranged by Paul McCann on Sunday 24 March 2013 at Silvermere Golf Club, starting at 10.00am, 25
minutes from the clubhouse. This follows on from the successful day last year. If you would like to take
part, get in contact with Paul to reserve your place, (paul@mccannbraham.com).
In 2013 we aim to make improvements to the clubhouse. The finance will of course be shared with our
co-hosts, Fulham Compton Old Boys. The electrics need a complete overhaul and there are areas to the
outer/within the pavilion that are in a poor state of repair: the men’s toilet/shower facilities being one such
area. We have a stock of kit detailing the club motif at the club. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt,
cap, hat or sweat band, please let your captain or one of the Management Committee know. We also
have an on-line shop on the Putney CC website. A full range of cricket attire with the club motif can be
purchased at very competitive prices.

I started off the year in correspondence with the council asking for our club to exempt from the hose pipe
ban on health and safety grounds. There then followed one of the wettest years on record, which resulted
in 21 games being cancelled. Only one of these was as a result of player numbers, which is pleasing.
This obviously had a knock on effect on match fees and bar takings. Our membership was up on the
previous year, 73 playing members as opposed to 69 in 2011. Although bar takings were down, the
percentage profit was back on track at 34%.
My thanks go to Ben Brook for organising the presentation evening. Thank you to those that donated
items for the auction and donations to the club. My thanks also to each member who contributed towards
the raffle, and to the highest bidders at the auction. It is the injection of money at the presentation evening
that keeps our yearly membership at its current level, and is the major factor in a healthy bank balance.
Also a big thank you to Richard Brambley and Owen Hereford who organised the race night, to Doug
Shaw for the Lord’s net, to Chin Ratnayake for the club tournament and to Paul McCann and Dez Telfer
for the quiz night: a healthy profit on the social front.
Expenditure: I will highlight the areas with the largest differentials.
Ground account: The major project for the 2012 season was the relaying of the cricket square. The total
cost of works was £5,881.68, but with the grant received from The Royal Society of Wildlife Trust/Biffa
Awards of £4,744.90, the total cost to the Club was £1,136.78. Our thanks go to Doug Shaw who headed
the project committee. The grass/seed/loam/whitening will probably come into play this season. The
sundries includes the purchase of a wicket marker for £330.00.
Pavilion account: The clubhouse repairs/purchases/decoration includes a £2,000.00 interim payment
towards the costs of improvements. With ever increasing costs, our contribution to the joint fund will be
increased from £1,800.00 to £2,500.00 for the 2013 season.
Miscellaneous account: The affiliation fees and fines includes £180.00 Surrey membership. The
playing/miscellaneous equipment includes £1,050.00 for the bench on the common (this should be
installed before the start of the season), £180.00 for cricket balls and £171.50 for stock.
I again ask members to settle their annual membership of £80.00 at the earliest opportunity. Please
ensure you bring sufficient monies on the day of a game to cover match fees and I do not want to see any
I.O.U’s behind the bar!
My annual reminder “only players nominated by the captain are to go behind the bar, and I would ask all
to be vigilant,” will go a long way in retaining the percentage profit.
Any suggestions for raising club funds through social events or other means are always welcome. Have a
good season, and spend plenty of money in the clubhouse.

THE EVE AND STAN MARSHALL 100 CLUB
The Eve and Stan Marshall 100 Club provides a useful contribution to club funds, and all playing
members are encouraged to join. The money from these draws usually goes towards the little things that
make the club that little bit nicer. The 100 club has 50 paid up members currently (no prizes for guessing
how many numbers are available). Members each pay £2 a month (via direct debit), with the chance to
win cash prizes. The lucky winners drawn at the Club Awards Night included Julian Day, Tony Fenton,
Olive Fenton and Dave Pegrum.

The 2012 season was the wettest in living memory. A record number of games were rained off but the 1
XI managed to get amazingly lucky with only 2 games rained off. However most of the games that went
forward were played in wet conditions on pitches that would not have been out of place in the early 50s. A
special mention must be given to Eddie McVarish for somehow managing to produce playable surfaces
despite the massive amount of rain.
League performance
The first half of the season produced performances that illustrate why the current Putney side is both
superb and dire at the same time. In appalling wet weather, on pitches that in any other country would be
scientific proof of a called off game, Putney were tested by both the opposition and themselves. The
opening match against Worplesdon & Burpham saw the Putney big hitters demoralize an under strength
bowling line-up. With Putney in early trouble at 88-4 Carlo Pelser and Damandeep Singh took the game
away from the opposition with a 150 run stand at better than a run a ball. Putney were finally dismissed
for 279 with Carlo and Damandeep ending on 100 and 99 respectively. In reply Worplesdon & Burpham
were decimated by early wickets limping from 38-6 to 120 all out. Early wickets would be a trend with a
well-travelled new ball pair and excellent change bowlers in the line-up this year.
The first defeat was suffered against Deando Ruxley and their mystery bowler. He once against managed
to get 5 wickets and seal out a close game with a 26 run loss. A loss to bottom of the table Effingham with
a poor batting performance marked the low point for the season. A frustrating loss that served to add a bit
of grit and fight to the team that ensured the next loss in the league (of which there was only one more)
came almost two and half months later. The next game on the bounce was against league leaders, and
eventual champions, Frimley. On a wet wicket a hastily reordered Putney line-up saw Gary Peters and
Devon Ebersohn open the batting. A slow and steady start saw Putney get to 48 before the first wicket
fell. After a middle collapse some useful runs down the order from Will Middleton and Chin Ratnayake
saw Putney reach 146 all out. A really good effort, considering the state of the pitch. Frimley started their
run chase with aggression, disregarding the warnings about the pitch that the Putney fielders offered. A
quick opening partnership of 28 was ended with the wicket of the captain from an unplayable out swinger
from Will Middleton. 28-1 became 48-8 with Frimley eventually being dismissed for 68.
The middle of the season was characterised by dominant performances without being able to finish sides
off. Putney’s batting line-up gained much needed consistency surpassing 180 (the max score for batting
points) in every one of the next seven games. This provided the platform for our bowling line-up to attack
teams from the start. Early wickets in every single game reduced teams to an average of 35-4. These
results kept us in the hunt for promotion ’til the very last day of the league.
The final day of the league had Putney travel to Ewhurst. Needing a win Putney lost the toss and were put
into bat. A Putney record opening partnership followed between Gary Peters and Mitchell Clark. At 214
Putney eventually lost their only wicket and declared at 227-1. A magnificent 141 by Mitch had given
Putney plenty of time to bowl Ewhurst out. The middle of the season had provided hard lessons when
chasing a victory with the ball, but these lessons had not fallen on deaf ears. An aggressive display of
bowling reduced Ewhurst to 78 all out with Piers Jackson taking 6-20 with booming in swingers. A
crushing victory that kept us in 5th place. At the end of the season the results other clubs went against us
and left us without promotion, but with a team pulling out we managed to gain promotion. A draw or loss
in the final game would meant we missed promotion.
Next year will be a stern test for a settled squad.
Cup Performance
Putney has always been suited to the limited overs form of the game. This year’s Cup run reinforced that
with consistent performances against teams from the league above.
The first cup game, against Byfleet, was Putney’s highest score for the season. After a rare win at the
toss Putney elected to bat. It was a shaky start which included Matt Atkins damaging his Achilles heel and
putting himself out of the season before it even started. The middle order then took the game away from

Byfleet with a century 4 wicket partnership between Damandeep Singh and Mitchell Clark. The innings
closed with Putney 320/9 and Singh and Clark on 93 and 117 respectively. A demoralised Byfleet could
never stay up with the required rate and ended almost 80 short at 243/7.

In the next game Putney hosted Thames Ditton in a fiery encounter. After being asked to bat the Putney
openers fought hard against the wet pitch and good new ball bowlers. An opening partnership of 81 came

to an end in the 25 over. A slow start that blunted the new ball and gave a chance for the Putney middle
order to attack. Aggressive innings from all involved saw Putney score at almost 8 runs an over for the
rest of the innings. Closing on 236/8 Putney had wrestled all the momentum and attacked with the new
ball. Great bowling from the openers again saw Thames Ditton reduced to 77-4. They never recovered
and went down by 32 runs in the end. A lot was said on, and off, the field but in the end the final words
were said with the ball. Onwards to the next match.
Putney’s cup run came to end in the quarter finals with a very narrow defeat to West End Esher. After
electing to bat Putney struggled to get partnerships together and ended up 179 all out with 4 overs still left
to face. 5 batsmen getting starts and getting out cost what could have been a very good total. Putney
came out with a point to prove. The best new ball bowling yet saw Esher struggle to 37-3. The run rate
slowed and Esher began to graft as hard as they could. Chances were created and barring two dropped
catches Putney could have forced home the win. In the end a nervy and visibly shaken West End Esher
reached the target 7 down. A heart-breaking loss that will surely drive the side to try and make the final
next year.
Overall a very good season with only four losses through 19 league and cup games completed. In a
stronger league next season, Putney will be challenged on a more regular basis. It will be an exciting
season ahead.

Putney 2s enjoyed a splendid season winning the Fuller’s League 2nd Team Division 2 for the first time at
only our second attempt. And it was a fine squad effort with 35 players taking the field. We often went out
with only 6 players from the previous week so the fact that we came top is testament to the fact the folk
wanted to be part of the club and to get on the pitch with their team-mates. That traces its roots back to
nets in the winter which was successful in attracting and retaining fresh blood and the website that got
them there in the first place. Well done Ben, Mark and Max for encouraging so many. And well done to all
the squad new and old for mucking and making it a friendly crew with whom to spend a Saturday
afternoon or “the entire day”, as some spouses put it.
Of course, with so many players, we did not have the reliance on anyone key individual. Batting-wise,
Sujith Subesinghe, an increasingly distant friend of Chinny’s, scored 294 runs for only 5 outs in a very
classical fashion; did we really have him batting at 8 early in the season? Mark Wibberley continued his
fine form scoring 431 for 11 outs. He hit a masterful 100 off only 69 balls vs Battersea Ironside,
judiciously attacking every ball! Mark also scored two other quick fifties which really ensured those games
were won. Stuart Gillies scored two fine fifties and over 200 runs for only 3 outs, including an important 62
against a dangerous John Fisher.
But there were important contributions throughout the season by some old hands, some veteran hands!
Fents scored 241 runs with two great fifties in the lower middle order when our much vaunted top order
vaunted not so much. 50 from him helped us win from being 66-6 against Roehampton and 65* from him
took us from a precarious 67-5 to 196-7 and one wicket from victory, Doug Shaw assisting both times.
Julian Day (198 runs) played sound innings at the top of the order many times without ever getting that
big score, as did newcomer Abhishek Kumar who really does have some big scores in him for 2013.
On the bowling side, 8 bowlers got more than ten wickets for the 2s, but no one more than Brian’s 15!
Brian tied them up all year with his outswingers but the flamboyant performances came from the five
bowlers who got fiver fers: Paul McCann, Piers Jackson, Ollie Wrighton (special mention for enticing his
girlfriend to an away game by booking a hotel in the village), John Jarrett and Murad. Murad and Brian
bowled most overs with real economy but those five wicket hauls really turned games for us. Only one
opposition bowler took five or more wickets against us, a really telling statistic.
Ollie’s 8-40 off 18 unchanged overs was a masterpiece of legspin bowling. Seven were bowled or LBW
as he used flight and guile to fish for his wickets, especially their obdurate left hander who fended Ollie off
using his feet well for 20 overs before failing to reach a wide one and being bowled middle. We reached

for the record books and these are the best figures since yyyy (ed: please find out!) .
JJ (5-27) was super slippery against Wandgas, who showed little fight, Piers (5-16) made the Old Boys of
John Fisher look like children with his sharply dipping inswingers. The boy’s a biomechanical marvel who
troubled batters all year, in the first team too. And in our must-win final game of the season, Paul McCann
delivered a wonderful spell of 6-40 to snuff the life out of Ewhurst, allowing Sujith (65*) and Jack Marriot-
Smally to eventually go bonkers and bring it home in style.
The great irony of the season is that, despite all Piers’ 37 wickets for the club and for all Sujith’s fine runs,
Piers reckons he’s really a batter and Sujith says he’s really a bowler. They don’t know themselves as
well as we do.
Our fielding was more than adequate. Old men unable to throw generally fielded in the slips. The maths
prize goes to he who can guess the combined age of a slip cordon of Mark (WK), Doug, Julian and Fents
at gulley; but the catches got held, some super sharp ones too (Julian at third slip off Lincoln at Frimley is
a great memory).
So, a great team effort. A mixture of buckles being swashed by Mark, lower middle order resilience from
Tony, and top order consistency from Sujith; and wickets from bowlers, many with match winning

performances. Others also dug deep: you know the batting order’s on the thin side when Brian’s at 7 and
Lincoln at 9. But they and Usman (24) did their job and allowed us to win at Frimley.
Of course, we should remark that the season started as a bureaucratic shambles in which our
incompetence meant we failed to call off properly the first league of the season for rain. Chaldon duly
rocked up and our only choice was to play. We were the only game that day and Anmol (55*) ensured we
won and that fine margin was the difference between champions and not!
But we should not forget that folk wanted to play, none more so than Tan Balendra, who responsed to our
one short request late morning, went from his workplace to east London to get his kit and still made it to
Worcester Park on time to play his part in a fine game. Would you do that at his age (63*)?
So, next season will be quite a challenge. Teams will be stronger, some will have colts sections, even.
Our own youth policy is unchanged and we look forward to seeing him more often. But we can look back
on a fine 2012 to give us encouragement.

SUNDAY 2 XI REPORT
Played 14 Won 5 Lost 5 Abandoned 4 .
The Sunday 2nd team this year, as with our other teams, had a season badly affected by rain. There
were 14 fixtures in all, although 4 were cancelled or abandoned leaving a record of 10 played, 5 won and
5 lost. A big thank you goes out to Tony Fenton for organising some great fixtures with a variety of good
competitive sides and to Eddie McVarish for what must have been a huge fight throughout the season
keeping the pitch in a good enough state to play.
The strategy across the Sunday teams this year was to mix players around wherever possible and put out
two equally strong teams together which paid dividends in that younger and newer players were given the
opportunity to both develop and play at a more competitive level. Once again, I was strongly supported by
VC Richard Wilson who stood in for me on many occasions during extended business trips, was a great
motivational force to have on the side setting a great example and once again proved himself to be one of
the stronger Sunday batsmen pushing for a Saturday team place with an creditable batting average of
33.2. Rich was awarded the Eve and Stan Marshall Trophy for batting, retaining it for the third year
running.
Praveen Kumar played a central role in the majority of games in which he played, opening with Rich
Wilson. He proved to be an all-round game changer and in any situation or condition he quickly had an
impact on the game. He averaged 15 often starting explosively only to fall foul of strong opening bowlers.
Keeping wicket and bowling it has been particularly pleasing to see a junior club member rising over one
season to become a key regular member of the club teams. His fielding stats spoke for themselves –
always completely committed, he took 8 catches across the season which placed him at the top of the
fielding stats across both Sunday teams winning him the Brian Brough Trophy for his fielding with the
Sunday 2nd XI.
Our fielding was greatly improved all round with a good team attitude and commitment to stopping the ball
at all costs and keeping opposition teams frustrated. This was the often the difference between a win and
loss in some of our more closely fought fixtures. Special mentions also go to Chris Powell who worked
extremely hard on his batting and fielding throughout the season and showed great improvement as well
as being a bright person to have in the team always on time and always available, and Rowan Crooks
who blasted the ball to all four corners of the ground and proved himself to be a game-changer in the
matches that he played also contributing ably as a bowler. Barry Perinpaja upped his batting average and
hit a straight six that few will forget.
Shivan Hutton once again proved himself as a strong all-rounder taking wickets and scoring runs and was
awarded the Amir Rahemtulla Trophy for his bowling contribution. Shivan also made valuable
contributions with the bat. He narrowly beat Stephen Wilcock and Chris Henson into a close second and
third place for the team bowling award. Chris Henson underpinned our opening bowling attack along with
Stephen Wilcock. Chris once again steamed in hungover, week after week, and Stephen was again our
quiet, contemplative, attack man, swinging and cutting the ball both ways and breaking down opposing
openers. For the second year running, Chris was awarded our unofficial “Ian Botham - Black Belt for
Bowling Whilst Still Drunk From the Night Before Award”. There were also great contributions from Ben
Fifield, Saad Raja, Vik Sehgal and Raghu Reddy who unfortunately had to end his season prematurely
after picking up a nasty injury.
I thoroughly enjoyed captaining the side this year and whilst we’ve been able to honour a number of
players for their exceptional efforts, thanks goes out to everyone who played in the team throughout the
season, helping us win games as well as creating a good spirit within the team. Final thanks go to Doug
Shaw for his relentless, and no doubt at times infuriating (for him), commitment in helping secure the
grant to get us a new pitch for 2013. We’re all looking forward to playing on it. Thanks also to all of those
involved in humping wheelbarrows full of top soil and disposing them in a manner that was consistent with
the needs of the Common Conservators. Special thanks to Mike Curtis for a lot of liaison with the
Conservators to make the new pitch a reality.
It was once again a great honour for me to be given the responsibility of the captaincy, and I look forward
to another exciting season in 2013, building on the successes of past years.

i) League: The first season in the Fullers Brewery Surrey County League for Saturday 1s and 2s
was generally quite successful. The Captain’s Evening for the collection of the necessary 'stock' for
the forthcoming season is Tuesday 10 April 2012 from 7.30pm onwards at the sponsor's brewery in
the Hock Cellar in Chiswick.
ii) Members: Congratulations to the following members, spouses and families: Trevor Ashworth,
Gary Peters, Paul McCann, Simon Thwaites.
iii) Thanks to Julian Day for the work in preparing the Annual Report.
iv) 100 club – Ash has been doing a great job for the 100 Club. Please continue to support this and
purchase your numbers from Aashish Baptista.
v) Trevor Ashworth: Grateful thanks were given to Trevor who has served the club very well over
the last 10 years or so. We all wish him, Sue and Caitlin all the very best in Canada.
Treasurer / Financial Report - presented by Mike Curtis.
i) Financial : Mike reported that the main concern from a financial point of view was that bar
margins were lower than expected (27% against 39% the previous year). There is no evidence of
pilfering however all captains and senior members to be vigilant as to who goes behind the bar
after games.
ii) Presentation evening: This was a good financial success once again and thanks were given to
Trevor and Ben for organising this.
iii) Annual Subs and match fees: The annual subs will be kept at £80, £30 for students and Under
18s. This represents good overall value when compared to other clubs in the area. Match fees will
be charged at £15 for those who have not paid the full subs. The match fee will drop to £10 once
full subs have been paid. If you have not paid annual subs after five games you will not be selected
to play.

Fixture Secretary’s Report - presented by Mike Curtis on behalf of Tony Fenton.
Mike reported that League fixtures had been sorted out however there have been 2 teams pull out of
the league so there will be some gaps during the season and some friendly fixtures to fill.
The Sunday teams faced some very strong sides (Sutton and Dulwich) last year and were thrashed
on a few occasions. The balance in the strength of the sides needs to be set against the strength of
the opposition. Tony needs to have feedback to help him select the opposition.
Midweek and/or Tour games: All players are encouraged to participate in at least one of the tour
games.

Last Man Stands 20/Twenty: Dez Telfer reported on behalf of Andrew Woodhead. They had about
a 50/50 win/loss ratio for the last season. The games are held on Wednesday evenings at Barn
Elms. Mike gave a warning regarding security (thefts from cars) parked on Queen Elizabeth Walk.

i) 1 XI – James Peters on behalf of Gareth Hughes: We had an OK league run last season but
finished poorly. We had a good Cup run with some great victories over the top side in the Fullers
League (2 divisions above) but we lost a rain affected final game.

ii) 2 XI – Doug Shaw: Overall it was a good season, starting well and needing to win the last few
games to get promoted but it was not to be. There were a few new players to the club that slotted
into the team well – Murad, Lincon and David Jones.

iii) Sunday 1 XI - Simon Thwaites : Simon reported that it was an enjoyable season with a
consistent team and a good spirit. Players mentioned specifically were Sam (w/k) and Hugo
Flower (bowling).

iv) Sunday 2 XI – Jon White : John reported that it was an enjoyable season, with some good
younger players. The bowling was good and the batting was poor, generally, through the season.
v) Indoor league – Devn Ebersohn: Putney Super Vikings have been playing indoor cricket for 2
seasons. The second season has not matched the heights achieved in the first season.
Groundsman’s Report - presented by Mike Curtis on behalf of Eddie McVarish.
A hosepipe ban is due to come into play on 5 April. The ECB is representing amateur clubs to try
and get hosepipes allowed on cricket pitches. The Club is able to write to the local water provider
for a relaxation of this ban. It is hoped that the furniture in the club can be replaced as much of it is
looking very tired and probably past its use-by date. The Club now enjoys a good relationship with
Fulham Compton Old Boys football club and Mike will need to agree any works to the club with
them.
Proposed pitch works: Doug Shaw introduced an item to have the top 40mm or so of the pitch
grass and topping ground-off using a Coro machine and relaid, similar to the works that
Roehampton CC did last year. The works to be done to ECB specifications (Surrey loam soil and
rye grass). If the works go ahead the downside is that the season will be curtailed at the end of the
season in order to allow enough time for the seed to take before the winter. There needs to be two
weeks of watering after the seeding. Eddie is reportedly keen to get the works done. Kennett
Sports of Caterham have given an estimate for the works of £5,800 plus VAT. Doug has applied
for a grant which hopefully will cover most of the cost, however there is no guarantee that we will
be awarded the grant. Doug reported that there is a small group of club members who have
agreed to underwrite the costs not covered by the grant and any fund raising that could take place.
All members are encouraged to help in this underwriting excercise. Chip made the case that it is
not right for the group to have the underwriting responsibility. Doug will send a pamphlet to Chinny
regarding the works, who in turn will try and raise money from his work. Some fundraising ideas
are needed for the forthcoming season. The proposal was accepted by the meeting.

use. The net mat needs to be rolled. Max, Dez and Simon have offered to help run the net.

iv) Teas: Mark has found a replacement tea lady for when Alice is unable to do them this season.
