Our Mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the
world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting
change in their lives.
Save the Children has been working in Vietnam for over 20
years. Our programme are included Emergency response,
DRR, Climate Change Adaptation, Child Protection,
Education, Child Right Government; Health & Nutrition
and Livelihoods. We currently work in over 34 provinces.

• Goal: To build the adaptive capacity of vulnerable children and their
communities in Vietnam to manage the impacts of climate change
• Objectives:
•To increase the ability of vulnerable children and their communities to
directly plan for and manage the negative impacts of climate variability
and change; and
•To improve the ability of government and civil society to meet the
adaptation needs of children and their communities, in line with
national objectives.

Save the Children’s approaches
• Save the Children takes a child-centred approach to building
community resilience to the impacts of current climate
variability and extreme weather events as well as projected
climate change impacts
• We work with and through children as agents of change in
their communities
• Target the most vulnerable community members
• Empower children and their communities to use their
existing knowledge and resources as a basis on which to
build their resilience
• Build on existing partnerships and structures to enhance
sustainability

• Coastal and delta geography – inherently hazard-prone
• Frequent storms and typhoons
• High flood risk in both coastal and inland areas
• Saline intrusion into fresh water systems (food security,
livelihoods)
• General low level of awareness among officials and
communities of DRR and climate change adaptation
• Lack of investment in DRR putting children and communities
at greater risk during extreme weather
• Climate change likely to exacerbate these existing challenges

• Save the Children has been working to build the resilience of
children and their communities in Tien Giang since 2003
• Key donors include AusAID and ECHO/DIPECHO
• Key activities:
• School and community-based DRR and CCA
• Awareness raising (child-centered IEC materials)
• DRR curriculum development
• Teacher training
• “Safe schools”
• Child-centered, youth - lead HVCA/CVCA processes
• School-based DRR and CCA plans

• Increased awareness among children, communities and
officials of current hazards and the implications of climate
change, as well as child-centered DRR and CCA actions in 5
district, in which we work on DRR in such 4 - district: Cai Be,
Cai Lay, Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong ( 10 communes) ,
in CCA field, we work in Go Cong Dong district and Go Cong
township ( 7 communes) .
