Looks at demographics in terms of student enrollment and ethnicity. Interesting aspect of this comparison is that online students mirror LAVC’s students in general except for an underrepresentation of Hispanics. This is consistent with findings in the literature. Even though you would expect hispanics to be more willing to take DE classes to meet their work and family obligations, they are not.

Preliminary data Faculty myth that students don’t finish online courses because they have lots of problems with the technology. Probably due to anecdotal evidence when an instructor has to deal with an overly needy students Actual statistics show that the retention rate of online students is close to the retention rate of traditional students. Just celebrated 08/08/08 which the chinese consider very lucky. We came up with our own lucky forecast. Currently 5% of our students are taking an online class. Project 11% of our students taking an online class in 2011. More than doubles what we have but there is still room for improvement since nationally 20% of students are enrolled in at least one online class.
Master Plan is looking at 1.5% increase in credit courses per year. We are projecting 10% increase per year based on variety of courses, number of sections, offering of DE degree and certificates.
