4. I have been teaching for 12 years. I have taught 2nd grade, Pre-
Kindergarten and 1st grade. In my family I have an 8 year old little
girl in the 3rd grade named J’Maalyah. I also have a fiancé who just
finished the police academy. Last, but not least, I have a little
Shih Tzu named Nala.
I teach Reading Recovery in the morning. In the afternoon I teach
Math, Science and Health.
5. Be prompt
Make sure your child arrives to school on
time so they can be ready to learn when class begins
School Day
Our school day is from 8:10 am - 3:10 pm.
Students will receive a tardy slip at 8:20 am
Leaving Early
It is understood that emergency situations occur, but please try to
limit picking up students early so that a full day of instruction is
provided
Absences
If your child is absent from school, please send a note to school
when your child returns. Include the reason for the absence and the
days your child was absent. If a note is not received, it will be
counted as an unexcused absence on their report card.
6. Dismissal
Our school day ends at 3:10 pm.
Car riders, daycare, walkers and bus students have designated
areas to dismiss
Please be patient if you pick your students up from school by
waiting
Our goal is to get students dismissed quickly but most
importantly safely
7. Uniforms are not mandatory but “strongly” encouraged!
Polo Style Shirts and Spirit Shirts
Polo style shirts can be worn any day for the week
in the colors of: white, gold, green and red
Sprit shirts can be worn on Fridays
Bottoms
Khaki bottoms are worn with the polo style shirts
and spirit shirts
Inappropriate Dress
No open toe shoes, flip flops or house shoes
No sleeveless tops for girls
Mohawks are prohibited

1st Grade Team Discipline Plan
First grade team has a discipline plan to give students opportunities to
correct behavior to prevent sending the child to the principal’s office
If this plan does not improve the child’s behavior, the parent will be
notified and the child will be sent to the principal’s office
9. For students with good behavior, there are school wide and
classroom incentives.

10. B.E.E. is an acronym for Bring Everything Everyday
The B.E.E. binder is a 3 pronged folder that houses
EVERYTHING students and parents need to keep up to date with what
is going on at school in one folder
They help students to establish good organizational skills that can
carry on throughout their time in school.
Bee books will be sent home every night. Please return them every
school day.

11. What Are Tuesday Folders?
Tuesday folders are school wide folders sent home
with every child each Tuesday
Graded Papers
Each Tuesday your child will have graded papers in
their Tuesday folder
Important Notes from the School and Teacher
Glover sends home important notes from the
school about events each Tuesday and papers that
have to be signed and returned will be sent home in
Tuesday folders and also in the B.E.E. Book
12. There are two designated restroom times to take
restroom breaks and get water as a class
Please communicate if your child has a medical
condition that may cause them to frequently go
to the restroom
In extreme emergencies the students will be
allowed to go the restroom
This system is put into place for classroom
management, to limit classroom disruptions during
teaching, to keep students safe and to cut down on
discipline issues that could occur

18. Reading Recovery serves children most at risk of reading and
writing failure. Reading Recovery helps students to develop
effective strategies for reading and writing through individualized
thirty-minute daily sessions with a specially trained teacher.
Children make accelerated progress in twelve to twenty weeks.
The goal is for them to reach the average level in their classrooms.
For students to exit the program successfully after 20 weeks, it
is crucial for parents to read the books sent home with their
children daily!
19. First grade will take two field trips this year.
One field trip will be in the fall and the second
field trip will be in the spring.
When the date and destination of our field trip
has been established, a permission slip and note
will be sent home.
20. Parents are always welcome to help in our classroom
and for the first grade team!
Here are a just a few ways that you can help:
