We have massive data centers spread out around the world. We don’t give out the exact numbers of how many we have, but we say between 10 and 100. When we say data center at Microsoft, it means typically the 60,000 to 100,000 server range. Anything smaller than that is a facility or a server farm, or something along those lines. When we say data center at Microsoft, we are talking about a very sophisticated engine as well. But we need more than just these data centers to deliver you Office 365.
Our data centers connect to a content delivery network. You can think of these as mini data centers, or mini installations in infrastructure spread out around the world. They really improve the speed you get back into those anchor data centers around the world.
There is a huge network connecting all of these assets together to provide very fast speeds between these networks.
