Dr. Lodge McCammon 
North Carolina State University College of Education 
Lodge McCammon is a Specialist in Curriculum and Contemporary 
Media  at  the  Friday  Institute  for  Educational  Innovation 
(www.fi.ncsu.edu).  His  work  in  education  began  in  2003  at 
Wakefield High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he taught 
Civics and AP Economics.  He finished a Ph.D. from North Carolina 
State  University  in  2008  where  his  work  at  The  Friday  Institute 
continues  to  bring  innovative  practices  to  students,  teachers  and 
schools.   He  developed  a  teaching  and  professional  development 
process called FIZZ which encourages and models best practices in 
implementing  user‐generated  video  and  online  publishing  in  the 
classroom to enhance standards‐based lessons.  He is also a studio 
composer  who  writes  standards‐based  songs,  with  supporting 
materials,  about  advanced  curriculum  for  K‐12  classrooms.   More

Workshop 
Enhancing the Classroom with User‐Generated Video and Music 
Lodge  has  developed  a  teaching  and  professional  development  process  called  FIZZ  which  encourages  and 
models  best  practices  in  implementing  user‐generated  video  in  the  classroom  to  enhance  standards‐based 
lessons. In this session, Lodge ‐ also a studio composer and musician – will guide us through a fun, interactive 
and collaborative exercise using standards‐based songs about advanced curriculum for K‐12 classrooms.  
Discovery Educator Network Gurus 
                                             
                                     Traci Blazosky, Clarion Area School District, Pa. 
                                     Creative Construction with Multimedia Guru 
                                     Traci Blazosky is a first grade teacher at Clarion Area Elementary School in Clarion, Pa. Recognized in 2007 as a 
                                     state  level  Keystone  Technology  Integrator,  Blazosky  has  facilitated  the  Keystones  State  Summit  for  the  past 
                                     two years. She also serves on the Pennsylvania DEN Leadership Council. In 2009, the Pennsylvania Association 
                                     for  Educational  Communications  and  Technology  recognized  Blazosky  as  “Outstanding  Teacher  of  the  Year,” 
                                     and  she  represented  Pennsylvania  at  NECC  2009  as  the  state’s  nominee  for  the  ISTE  “Teacher  of  the  Year” 
                                     Award. In addition, she facilitates online courses through Pa e‐Learning for Educators (PDE/PBS Ready to Teach 
                                     Grant). Blazosky is working toward a Master’s degree in Instructional Media at Wilkes University. 


                                     Tim Childers, Bradley County Schools, Tenn. 
                                     Project‐Based Learning Guru 
                                     Tim Childers is a middle school teacher in southeast Tennessee. Serving his school as both a classroom teacher 
                                     and  a  technology  trainer  for  students  and  teachers,  he  works  primarily  with  eighth  grade  students,  helping 
                                     them prepare for high school and beyond. His students are challenged to create real‐world content related to 
                                     careers of interest to them. Childers has been a DEN member from its inception, and serves on the Tennessee 
                                     DEN  Leadership  Council  as  the  blogging  coordinator  and  is  passionate  about  helping  educators  integrate 
                                     technology into their classrooms in authentic ways. Childers’ use of Discovery Education streaming and other 
                                     Web  2.0  applications  is  geared  toward  conducting  project‐based  learning  in  the classroom, and his goal  is to 
                                     help other educators do the same. 

                                     Patricia Duncan, Wallenpaupack Area School District, Pa. 
                                     Science Guru 
                                     Patti  Duncan  is  an  educator,  scientist,  technology  consultant,  and  professional  development  trainer.  After 
                                     working for 10 years as a food chemist, Duncan began her second career in education in 1997. She has taught 
                                     middle school and high school science for 12 years, most recently for the Wallenpaupack Area School District in 
                                     Hawley,  Pa.  She  has  presented  on  a  variety  of  subjects  at  conferences  for  the  New  Jersey  Science  Teachers 
                                     Association,  New  Jersey  Teachers  Association,  National  Science  Teachers  Association,  Chem‐Ed,  BCCE,  and 
                                     PETE&C,  as  well  as  at  workshops  for  both  Wilkes  University  and  Rutgers  University.  Sharing  what  she  knows 
                                     about  science  and  technology  education  has  become  a  passion,  as  well  as  a  career.  Duncan  serves  as  event 
                                     chair of the Pennsylvania DEN Leadership Council and is the lead blogger for the Siemens STEM Academy. 
                                      
                                     Lee Kolbert, The School District of Palm Beach County, Fla. 
                                     Personal Learning Networks Guru 
                                     Lee Kolbert has been an educator in Palm Beach County, Fla., for 25 years. She spent 20 years as an elementary 
                                     school teacher and five as a district technology program specialist. Her primary focus as an administrator was 
                                     to  engage  teachers  in  new  conversations  to  help  them  take  the  next  step  toward  technology  integration. 
                                     During the last year, she chose to return to teaching and is now once again a classroom teacher. Kolbert has 
                                     been  a  STAR  since  2005,  and  serves  as  chair  of  the  Florida  DEN  Leadership  Council.  Also,  a  blogger  and 
                                     “hockeymom,” she loves everything about bringing the benefits of social networking to the classroom. She co‐
                                     hosts a local cable television show, PalmBreeze CAFÉ, which focuses on online tools useful for educators and 
                                     the  community.  She  has  presented  at  various  local  and  national  conferences,  and  has  recently  started 
                                     consulting. 
 
What’s a Guru? 
Discovery  Educator  Network  (DEN)  Gurus  are  STARs  who  have  demonstrated  their  expertise  in  one  or  more  pedagogical  topic  areas  through  a 
variety  of  professional  experiences  and  have  been  acknowledged  as  advocates  for  the  meaningful  integration  of  educational  technologies  and 
digital content into curriculum.  Gurus are chosen through a competitive application process and are recognized as thought leaders for the DEN – 
one of the nation’s largest professional learning communities.   Joining us today are the first‐ever DEN Gurus.

GLOG with me... and DE! 
Traci Blazosky 
This session will model ways to integrate Discovery Education resources into a Glog. Through a quick overview 
of Glogster EDU, we'll explore ways to build interactive activities that will ignite creativity and engage student 
learning. 
 
 
Lights! Camera!...Learning! 
Tim Childers 
We will explore the use of digital video cameras and movie making as part of Project Based Learning in the 
classroom.  The session will include a quick overview of Project Based Learning (PBL), how to integrate movie 
making across the curriculum, and student samples.  Fasten your seat belt!  We will be flying for 20 minutes of 
fun!

Creativity and innovation are key skill for today’s 21st century learner. In this session, you will learn creativity 
tools  that  address  the  needs  of  all  learners.    Check  out  samples  of  how  students  have  used  technology  to 
enhance their learning and explore complex systems and issues, and learn how to seamlessly and effectively

Discovery Education streaming.  This session will highlight many resources available to all teachers as well as 
those that would "light the fire" of any science teacher's Bunsen burner! 
 
 
All That Jazz: Tips and Tools for Jazzing Up Your PLN

This  fast‐paced  session  will  take  you  through  some  easy  ways  you  can  get  started  today  connecting  with 
others and building your Personal Learning Network.

Dr. Lodge McCammon    Dr. Lodge McCammon  North Carolina State University College of Education  Lodge McCammon is a Specialist in Curriculum and Contemporary  Media  at  the  Friday  Institute  for  Educational  Innovation  (www.fi.ncsu.edu).  His  work  in  education  began  in  2003  at  Wakefield High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he taught  Civics and AP Economics.  He finished a Ph.D. from North Carolina  State  University  in  2008  where  his  work  at  The  Friday  Institute  continues  to  bring  innovative  practices  to  students,  teachers  and  schools.   He  developed  a  teaching  and  professional  development  process called FIZZ which encourages and models best practices in  implementing  user‐generated  video  and  online  publishing  in  the  classroom to enhance standards‐based lessons.  He is also a studio  composer  who  writes  standards‐based  songs,  with  supporting  materials,  about  advanced  curriculum  for  K‐12  classrooms.   More  information,  user‐generated  videos,  and  songs  can  be  found  at  Lodge’s website (www.iamlodge.com).   Workshop  Enhancing the Classroom with User‐Generated Video and Music  Lodge  has  developed  a  teaching  and  professional  development  process  called  FIZZ  which  encourages  and  models  best  practices  in  implementing  user‐generated  video  in  the  classroom  to  enhance  standards‐based  lessons. In this session, Lodge ‐ also a studio composer and musician – will guide us through a fun, interactive  and collaborative exercise using standards‐based songs about advanced curriculum for K‐12 classrooms.  
  • 4. Discovery Educator Network Gurus    Traci Blazosky, Clarion Area School District, Pa.  Creative Construction with Multimedia Guru  Traci Blazosky is a first grade teacher at Clarion Area Elementary School in Clarion, Pa. Recognized in 2007 as a  state  level  Keystone  Technology  Integrator,  Blazosky  has  facilitated  the  Keystones  State  Summit  for  the  past  two years. She also serves on the Pennsylvania DEN Leadership Council. In 2009, the Pennsylvania Association  for  Educational  Communications  and  Technology  recognized  Blazosky  as  “Outstanding  Teacher  of  the  Year,”  and  she  represented  Pennsylvania  at  NECC  2009  as  the  state’s  nominee  for  the  ISTE  “Teacher  of  the  Year”  Award. In addition, she facilitates online courses through Pa e‐Learning for Educators (PDE/PBS Ready to Teach  Grant). Blazosky is working toward a Master’s degree in Instructional Media at Wilkes University.  Tim Childers, Bradley County Schools, Tenn.  Project‐Based Learning Guru  Tim Childers is a middle school teacher in southeast Tennessee. Serving his school as both a classroom teacher  and  a  technology  trainer  for  students  and  teachers,  he  works  primarily  with  eighth  grade  students,  helping  them prepare for high school and beyond. His students are challenged to create real‐world content related to  careers of interest to them. Childers has been a DEN member from its inception, and serves on the Tennessee  DEN  Leadership  Council  as  the  blogging  coordinator  and  is  passionate  about  helping  educators  integrate  technology into their classrooms in authentic ways. Childers’ use of Discovery Education streaming and other  Web  2.0  applications  is  geared  toward  conducting  project‐based  learning  in  the classroom, and his goal  is to  help other educators do the same.  Patricia Duncan, Wallenpaupack Area School District, Pa.  Science Guru  Patti  Duncan  is  an  educator,  scientist,  technology  consultant,  and  professional  development  trainer.  After  working for 10 years as a food chemist, Duncan began her second career in education in 1997. She has taught  middle school and high school science for 12 years, most recently for the Wallenpaupack Area School District in  Hawley,  Pa.  She  has  presented  on  a  variety  of  subjects  at  conferences  for  the  New  Jersey  Science  Teachers  Association,  New  Jersey  Teachers  Association,  National  Science  Teachers  Association,  Chem‐Ed,  BCCE,  and  PETE&C,  as  well  as  at  workshops  for  both  Wilkes  University  and  Rutgers  University.  Sharing  what  she  knows  about  science  and  technology  education  has  become  a  passion,  as  well  as  a  career.  Duncan  serves  as  event  chair of the Pennsylvania DEN Leadership Council and is the lead blogger for the Siemens STEM Academy.    Lee Kolbert, The School District of Palm Beach County, Fla.  Personal Learning Networks Guru  Lee Kolbert has been an educator in Palm Beach County, Fla., for 25 years. She spent 20 years as an elementary  school teacher and five as a district technology program specialist. Her primary focus as an administrator was  to  engage  teachers  in  new  conversations  to  help  them  take  the  next  step  toward  technology  integration.  During the last year, she chose to return to teaching and is now once again a classroom teacher. Kolbert has  been  a  STAR  since  2005,  and  serves  as  chair  of  the  Florida  DEN  Leadership  Council.  Also,  a  blogger  and  “hockeymom,” she loves everything about bringing the benefits of social networking to the classroom. She co‐ hosts a local cable television show, PalmBreeze CAFÉ, which focuses on online tools useful for educators and  the  community.  She  has  presented  at  various  local  and  national  conferences,  and  has  recently  started  consulting.    What’s a Guru?  Discovery  Educator  Network  (DEN)  Gurus  are  STARs  who  have  demonstrated  their  expertise  in  one  or  more  pedagogical  topic  areas  through  a  variety  of  professional  experiences  and  have  been  acknowledged  as  advocates  for  the  meaningful  integration  of  educational  technologies  and  digital content into curriculum.  Gurus are chosen through a competitive application process and are recognized as thought leaders for the DEN –  one of the nation’s largest professional learning communities.   Joining us today are the first‐ever DEN Gurus.

Guru Workshop    GLOG with me... and DE!  Traci Blazosky  This session will model ways to integrate Discovery Education resources into a Glog. Through a quick overview  of Glogster EDU, we'll explore ways to build interactive activities that will ignite creativity and engage student  learning.      Lights! Camera!...Learning!  Tim Childers  We will explore the use of digital video cameras and movie making as part of Project Based Learning in the  classroom.  The session will include a quick overview of Project Based Learning (PBL), how to integrate movie  making across the curriculum, and student samples.  Fasten your seat belt!  We will be flying for 20 minutes of  fun!      Share the Excitement!  Jeremy Jackson and Shirley Boyd  Creativity and innovation are key skill for today’s 21st century learner. In this session, you will learn creativity  tools  that  address  the  needs  of  all  learners.    Check  out  samples  of  how  students  have  used  technology  to  enhance their learning and explore complex systems and issues, and learn how to seamlessly and effectively  integrate technology into their lesson plans and classrooms. Explore, engage, Share!      15 minute break…      Get your Goggles On!  Patti Duncan  Grab  your  lab  coat  and  goggles  and  join  Patti  as  she  explores  all  there  is  to  offer  for  teaching  science  with  Discovery Education streaming.  This session will highlight many resources available to all teachers as well as  those that would "light the fire" of any science teacher's Bunsen burner!      All That Jazz: Tips and Tools for Jazzing Up Your PLN  Lee Kolbert  This  fast‐paced  session  will  take  you  through  some  easy  ways  you  can  get  started  today  connecting  with  others and building your Personal Learning Network.
