Agenda
Guiding Principles for Our Work:
Student learning and success is paramount.
Educators (teachers, school and district administrators) want what is
best for students.
Decisions should be made as close to the student as is practical and
effective.
Objectives for this Meeting:
Agree on basic conditions that support greater autonomy at the school
and district level
Identify preliminary recommendations in specific areas of autonomy
Continue to build relationships among all members and increase
understanding on autonomy

Educator Autonomy Working Group Monday, May 5, 2014 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Rhode Island Department of Education 80 Washington Street/255 Westminster Street, Providence Room 501 Agenda Guiding Principles for Our Work: Student learning and success is paramount. Educators (teachers, school and district administrators) want what is best for students. Decisions should be made as close to the student as is practical and effective. Objectives for this Meeting: Agree on basic conditions that support greater autonomy at the school and district level Identify preliminary recommendations in specific areas of autonomy Continue to build relationships among all members and increase understanding on autonomy 4:30 – 4:45 Welcome, Reflections, and Processes for Working Together on Recommendations Yanaiza Gallant and Pat Page – Co-chair of the Educator Autonomy Working Group Reflections from our April 7,2014 meeting Review of Process for Developing Recommendations, including  Quick Review of Research, Interviews, and Summary of Meetings – Implications for Recommendations  Confirming basic conditions that are necessary for autonomy to flourish  Achieving consensus and supporting recommendations 4:45 – 6:15 Developing Specific Recommendations for Increasing Autonomy in Rhode Island Examining a set of preliminary recommendations and refine recommendations based on input Structure of a Recommendation Generating other possible recommendations 6:20 – 6:30 Reflections, Feedback, Next Steps Complete an Exit Ticket Assignment for June 2, 2014 meeting Confirming Final Recommendations – July 7, 2014 meeting
