The report, Synthesis of CCS Social Research: Reflections and State of Play 2013 was designed to provide an accessible summary and guide into the emerging thinking and best practices for those working to improve public understanding and acceptance of CCS technology. During this webinar, the authors presented an overview of the report findings, joining Global CCS Institute Public Engagement Manager, Kirsty Anderson, to discuss audience questions around the current state of play of CCS social research and best practice public engagement.

All addiction treatment centres face the challenge of allocating resources across budget areas to obtain best value for money. This requires a clear sense of priorities that balance costs, risks and benefits, where bene ts can be any mixture of financial and non- financial value. But how can monetary costs, uncertainty about the future and multiple, con icting objectives be ‘balanced’ when they are all very different? The answer is to be found in multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), a theoretically sound, highly practical, and well-tested approach that uses both data and human judgement to carry out this balancing act. After a brief introduction to the principles of MCDA, Professor Larry Phillips will facilitate a small group of addiction experts in a decision conference to develop a prioritisation for allocating resources across budget areas of a hypothetical treatment centre. The session will end with a discussion of how this process could be implemented.

This presentation was by Dr Svenja Keele and Professor Lars Coenen, from the University of Melbourne, who talked about the role of policy and the ‘policy spectrum’ as captured in the published report. The Symposium explored ways to incentivise resilience - by understanding the key drivers, and exploring the use of different policy approaches to enhance critical infrastructure resilience.

A recent IIED study on climate finance shows a big gap between total climate funds available and the proportion of that being implemented at local scale. In addition, global spending on conventional agriculture and forestry is manifold the spending on responsible land use practices. The CGIAR program on Forest Trees and Agroforestry studies success factors for inclusive and responsible businesses, which are at the core of both climate finance and responsible investments. It also looks at financial mechanisms that can adequately address the needs of such businesses.
