I met Pam a few years ago when we both served on a volunteer educational
committee for the Corporate Travel Industry. Pam has a practical, no-
nonsense approach to her work and life that brings clarity and refreshing
simplicity to the most complex situations.
Best Career or Leadership advice youwere given
whenstarting out in your career:
The best advice I received from a mentor when
I began my career journey wasto never
sacrifice my valuesand to be trueto
myself: "Remember this career is your journey
so make honorable choices that will lead you to
your career aspirations."
Throughout my career, I have worked with great leaders and mentors
and I have also had to managethrough somepotential derailers. Over

2. the years, though, keepingmy "best advice" as a guide rail, I have been
able to stay on course with my journey and notstrayed when facing
difficultcrossroads.
Career or Leadership advice youtend to give most oftenat thisstage of
your career and why:
At this stage in my career I encouragemy peers to never "assume" to
know what worksand what doesn't. Weneed to know when to get out
of our own way and not let our years of experience cloud the great ideas
that are all around us. Also, equally as importantis to lead by example,
listen intently, adjust your styleand never be afraid to raise your hand
to engage in all levels of work to continuelearning. Wewill never know
everythingand that is what makes our career exciting.
What are your sourcesof motivationand inspiration? Authors? Speakers?
Artists?
Warren Buffetisan inspiration to me for his down to earth and matter-
of-fact approach which never strays from his core values.
Also, I have been truly blessed to have worked with great leadersin my
career who have inspired meand made a differencein my life: Bill
Maritz, Peter Coors, Danny Hood, and Fred Marxer.
When I think about their leadership style commonalities, what stands
out for me is their personalexampleof work/lifebalance and taking the
time to mentor their teams. They wereapproachable and empowered
those around them to know that nothing was impossible. Personally,
they helped meto understand how best to harness my own passion to
reach my goals.
One morething to note about each of them: they always said "thank
you"and I knew they were sincere.
3. The toolsor strategiesyouemploy inorder to achieve or strive to achieve
work/life balance and integration?
I was born and raised in a small farmingcommunity 20 milesaway
from the nearest gallon of milk. Farmingis hard work but the valuesof
community and the celebration and pridein a job well donewere a
great foundation. Inever stray far from my roots to take time to have
fun and celebrate even the smallest of milestones. It makes the next
hurdleof work moreachievable.
Final thoughts:
I was blessed to have a great supportsystem of family and friendsin my
life. I have no regrets because every twist in the journey wasthere for a
reason or lesson to be learned. I have alwaystold my children that I will
supportyou in whatever you choose to do.
Whatever "that" is, you mustlove what you do, have a passion for it and
be the best that you can be at it. I practice what I preach.
