History of the
apparitions of
the Virgin Mary
at Fatima,
Portugal 1917
based on Sister
Lucia's Memoirs
the spring of 1916
Lucia, (10 years old)
and her cousins
Francisco (9 years
old) and Jacinta
(7 years old) were
herding the sheep in
Aljustrel, near the
village of Fatima.
To shelter from the rain they
entered a cave. A strong wind
began to move the trees.
They saw in the distance above the trees a light, whiter
than snow, in the shape of a young man, something
transparent, as bright as glass in the Sun's rays.
He knelt down, bending his
face to the ground. With a
supernatural impulse we did
the same, repeating the
words we heard him say:
After repeating this prayer three times, the angel stood up and told us: Pray this way.
The hearts of Jesus and Mary are ready to listen to you. And he disappeared.
He left us in an atmosphere of the supernatural that was so intensethat we were for
a long time without realizing our own existence. The presenceof God was so
powerful and intimate that even among ourselves we could not speak
"My God, I believe, I adore, I hope
and I love you. I ask your
forgiveness for those who do not
believe, do not adore, do not hope
and do not love you".
-prayer taught by the angel
of peace, in Fatima
During the summer of 1916
the three cousins were
playingin the heat of the
day in the garden near the
well behind the house of
the Saints in Aljustrel.
Lucia describes how
the angel appeared to
them once again
scolding them for their
lack of spiritual
seriousness.
Suddenly we saw the same angel near us. What are you
doing? he asked them. You have to pray! Pray!
The hearts of Jesus and Mary, they have merciful designs for you.
You must offer your prayers and sacrifices to God, the Most High.
But how should we
sacrifice ourselves?
I asked.
In every way you can
offer sacrifices to God in
reparation for sins by
which He is offended,
and in supplication
for sinners.
In this way you will bring
peace to this country, that
I am your guardian angel,
the Angel of Portugal.
Also, accept and bear with
patience the sufferings
that God will send you.
the third appearance of
the angel was in Sept
1916 near Cabeço.
After repeating this
prayer...we saw a strange
light shine on us.
We lifted our heads
to see what happened.
The angel held in his left
hand a chalice and on it,
in the air, there was a
host from where the
drops of blood fell
in the chalice.
The angel left the chalice in the air, knelt near us and asked us to repeat three times: Most
Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I deeply adore you, and I offer you my precious
body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in
reparation for the ingratitude, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended.
And for the infinite merits of his Sacred Heart and for that of the Immaculate
Then he got up, he took in
his hands the chalice and
the host. He gave the host to
me and the contents of the
chalice he gave to Jacinta
and Francisco, saying
at the same time:
Take and drink the Body
and Blood of Jesus Christ
terribly offended by the
ingratitude of men.
Offer reparation for them
and console God.
Once again he bowed to the ground repeating with us the same prayer
-Oh Holy Trinity… etc., And he disappeared. Overwhelmed by the supernatural
atmosphere that enveloped us, we imitated the angel in everything, kneeling
prostrating ourselves as he did and repeating the prayers as he said them.
The first apparition of the Virginit happened
13 may 1917 north of the Cova slopes. They were
praying the rosary after lunch when they saw
lightning in the middle of the blue sky.
They prepared to flee from a storm.
They saw again a strange light. As they went down they saw
another lightning and in an oak tree a lady dressed in white
She shone stronger than the
sun, radiating rays of clear and
intense light, like a crystal cup
filled with pure water when the
radiant sun passes through it.
We stopped in awe of the
apparition. We were so close
that we stayed in the light that
surrounded her, or that she
radiated, almost a meter
and a half.
Please don't be afraid, she
said. I'm not going to hurt you.
Lucia responded on behalf of
the three, as she did during all
the appearances.
Where are you from?
I come from heaven.
The Lady was dressed in a
pure white mantle, with a gold
border that fell to her feet.
In her hands she carried the
rosary beads that looked like
stars, with a crucifix that was
the most radiant gem of all.
Lucia was not afraid.
The presence of the Lady
produced only happiness
and confident joy.
Lucia asked her
"What do you want from me?
"I want you to come back here on
the thirteenth of every month for
the next six months at the same
time. Then I'll tell you who I am,
and what do I most desire?
And I will come back
here a seventh time.“
And I will go to heaven?
"Yes, you will go to heaven.“
And Jacinta?"She will go
too."And Francis?"He too,
but he must first pray many
Rosaries.The Lady looked at
Francisco compassionately
for a few minutes, tinged
with a little sadness.
You will offer yourselves
to God and you will accept
all the sufferings that
He sends you,
in reparation for all the
sins that offend Him
and for the
conversion of sinners.
"Oh yes, we will”
Lucy answered.
“You will have to suffer a
lot but the grace of God
will be with you and it
will strengthen you”.
Lucia relates that while the Lady
pronounced these words, she
opened her hands, and they were
bathed in a heavenly light that
seemed to come directly from her
hands. The reality of this light
penetrated our hearts and souls,
and we knew that somehow this
light was God, and we could see
ourselves embracing her.
By an interior impulse of grace
we fell on our knees,
repeating in our hearts:
"O Most Holy Trinity,
we adore you. My God,
oh my god I love you
in the Blessed Sacrament"
The children remained on
their knees in the flow of
this marvelous light, until
the Lady spoke again,
mentioning the war in
Europe, of which they
had little or no notion.
Pray the Rosary every day,
to bring peace to the world
and the end of the war.
After this She began to rise
slowly towards the east, until
she disappeared into the vast
distance. The light that
surrounded her seemed
to enter between the stars,
that is why we sometimes
said that we saw
the heavens open..
Although she had
agreed to keep
these events secret,
Jacinta reveals
everything to
her mother.
She was quite
incredulous, but her
husband Tio Marto
trusted the honesty
of her children.
Lucia's mother, on the other
hand, when she finally heard
what had happened, believed
that her own daughter was
not only the instigator of a
fraud, but of blasphemy.
Lucia quickly understood
what the Lady meant when
she said that they would
suffer a lot. Maria Rosa
insisted that Lucia retracted,
even threatening her.
Finally, she took her by
force to the priest, Father
Ferreira, but to no avail.
On the other hand, Lucia's father, who was not very religious, was practically
indifferent, attributing everything to the whims of women. Over the next few weeks,
as the children awaited their next visit from the Lady in June, they realised
that they had few believers, and many against them in Aljustrel and Fatima
The Apparition of June 13,
1917. After reciting the
rosary with Jacinta and
Francisco together with the
people who were present, we
saw again the reflection of
light that was approaching
us (we used to say that it
was lightning) and then,
Our Lady in the oak
tree as in May.
"Please tell me, Madam, what do you want
from me? "I want you to come here on the
thirteenth of next month. I want you to
continue saying the Rosary every day.
After each mystery, my children, I want you
to pray in this way. "Oh my good Jesus,
forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of
hell. He leads all souls to heaven, especially
those most in need of your Divine Mercy
"I want you to learn to read and write, and then
I will tell you what else I want from you.
"Will it take us to heaven?
"Yes, I will take Jacinta and
Francisco very soon, but you
will stay a little longer, since
Jesus wants you to make me
known and loved on earth.
He also wants you to establish
worldwide devotion to my
Immaculate Heart.
"Should I stay in the
world alone?
"Not alone, my
daughter, and you
must not be sad.
I will be with you
always, and my
Immaculate Heart
will be your
consolation and
this path will
lead you to God.
The moment she said the last words, opening her hands,
She transmitted to us for the second time, the reflection of that
intense light. In it we felt that we were immersed in God. Jacinta
and Francisco seemed to be in the part of the light that rose
towards the Heavens, and I in the part that spilled over the earth.
In front of the palm of
Our Lady's right hand was
a heart surrounded by thorns
that seemed to stick to her.
We understood that it was the
Immaculate Heart of Mary
offended by the sins of
humanity, eagerly desiring
reparation. The apparition
then ended as on the first
occasion, with the Lady rising
to the east and disappearing
into the "vastness of the
heavens"
The girls' mothers were
truly alarmed as the
events were not only
continuing but rather
increasing.
Moreover the priest cautioned her
sternly, for he suspected that all this
was for real, but from the devil.
Apparition of July 13, 1917 The July 13 apparition proved to be in many ways the
most controversial part of the Fatima message, providing a three-part secret that the
children jealously guarded. The first two parts, the vision of hell and the prophecy of
the future Russia's role and how to prevent it, would not be revealed until Lucia
wrote them in her third diary, in obedience to the bishop, in 1941.
The third part,
commonly known as
the Third Secret, was
later communicated to
the bishop, who sent
it without reading it
to Pope Pius XII.
A few minutes after arriving at Cova
da Iria, near the oak, where a large
number of people were praying the
Rosary, we saw a flash of light once
again, and a moment later
Our Lady appeared in the oak tree.
"Lucía," said Jacinta, "speak.
"The Lady is speaking to you.“
"Yes?" Lucia said. She spoke
humbly, apologizing for her doubts
with all her gestures, and said to the
Lady "What do you want from me?
"I want you to come here
the thirteenth of next month.
Continue to pray the Rosary every
day in honor of Our Lady of the
Rosary, to obtain peace for the world
and the end of the war, because only
the rosary can obtain this.
"I would like to ask
you who you are, and
if you can perform a
miracle so that the
whole world knows
for sure that you
have appeared”
You must come here
every month, and in
October I will tell you
who I am and what
I want. Then I will
perform a miracle so
that everyone believes.
make sacrifices for
sinners, and say
often, especially
when making a
sacrifice:
Oh Jesus, this is for love of
You, for the conversion of
sinners, and in reparation for
the offenses committed against
Immaculate Mary's heart.
As Our Lady said these words she opened her hands once more, as she had done
for the previous two months. The rays of light seemed to penetrate the earth, and
we saw as if it were a sea of fire. Immersed in this fire were demons and souls in
human form, like transparent burning brands, all black or burnt bronze in color,
floating in the fire, now lifted into the air by the flames that issued from
themselves together with great clouds of smoke, they fell everywhere like sparks
between huge fires, without weight or balance, between shrieks and groans
of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear
Demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and disgusting
similarity to hideous unknown animals, black and transparent as
burning coals. Horrified and as if asking for help, we looked
towards Our Lady, who told us, so kindly and so sadly:
You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go.It is to save them
that God wants to establish in the world a devotion to my Immaculate
Heart. If you do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be
peace. This war will cease, but if men do not stop offending God, another
more terrible war will begin during the pontificate of Pius XI
When you see a night that will be illuminated by a strange and
unknown light (this happened on January 28, 1938) you will
know that this is the sign that God will give themand that will
indicate that it is about to punish the world with war and
famine, and with the persecution of the Church and the Pope
To prevent this, I come into
the world to ask that Russia
be consecrated to my
Immaculate Heart, and I ask
that communions be held on the
first Saturday of each month in
reparation for all the sins of the
world. If my wishes are realised
Russia will convert and there
will be peace. If not, Russia will
spread her errors around the
world, bringing new wars and
persecutions to the Church,
the just will be martyred and the
Holy Father will have to suffer a
lot, certain nations will be
annihilated. But in the end my
Immaculate Heart will
triumph.The Holy Father will
consecrate Russia to My
Immaculate Heart, and she
will be converted and the world
will enjoy a period of peace.
Then, as before, Our Lady
began to ascend towards the
East, until finally She
disappeared into the immense
darkness of the firmament.
When you say the Rosary, say after
each mystery: O my good Jesus,
forgive us our sins, deliver us from
the fires of hell, especially those
most in need of your Divine Mercy.
Possession of the Secret proved to be a great test for the three little ones. The family,
the neighbors, followers of the apparition, even the clergy, tried unsuccessfully to
deny what was revealed. Finally, as the day of the apparition drew near, even the
secular and venomously anti-clerical civil government, alarmed at the number
of people taking an interest in the Fatima events, attempted to snatch them away
and in the process expose the Church as a collaborator in a fraud.
Apparition of August 19, 1917 Under the pretext of providing them with their own
car, so that the children could move safely in the midst of the crowd that surrounded
their homes, the civil administrator or mayor of Fatima, arrived in Aljustrel on the
morning of the 13th of August. In an unsuccessful attempt to find out "the truth",
on August 11, Arturo Santos, an apostate catholic had planned a trap that would
leave the children in his custody and force them to reveal everything.
Here he tried to buy them off,
threatened them with death and locked
them in a cell with other "criminals" to
make them retract his story. All this,
without any result. Despite their ages,
their faith in our Lady and their
courage were unruffled.
As an act of good faith, he
offered to take the three children
and their parents to see the
priest, who he said he wanted
to see them, and so he went to
Cova. At the rectory he
abandoned this ruse as well
as the parents, taking the
children alone to the district
headquarters in Vila Nova de
Ourem, about 9 miles away.
Meanwhile in Cova at noon on the 13th, the characteristic external
signs of the appearance became visible to the crowd, the largest
crowd ever. After these signs ended the crowd dispersed, without
knowing anything about the traps set by the government
On Sunday the 19th Lucia, her brother Juan and Francisco were herding their
sheep in a place called Valinhos. It was located on the side of the same hill opposite
Aljustrel where the angel appeared to them twice, a little further north. Around
4 in the afternoon, sensing that the Lady was about to appear, Lucía tried
unsuccessfully to convince her brother Juan to go look for Jacinta, until she
offered him a few cents to go look for her. As she and Francisco waited they
saw the typical light. The moment Jacinta arrived, the Lady appeared.
"What do you want from me?
"May you come again to Cova
da Iria on the thirteenth of next
month, and continue to pray
the Rosary every day.
On the last day I will perform
a miracle so that everyone
believes."What should we do
with the offerings that people
leave at Cova da Iria?"
I want you to make two litters (to
carry statues) for the feast of Our
Lady of the Rosary. I want you and
Jacinta to bear one of them with two
other girls. You two will wear white.
And then I want Francisco, with
three children helping him, to carry
the other one. Children also have to
wear white. what's left of the
offerings will help to build the
chapel that has to be built here.
And looking at
them sadly, she
said Pray, pray,
pray a lot,
make sacrifices
for sinners.
Many souls go to
hell because no
one is willing to
help them with
sacrifices.
Apparition of September 13, 1917 Despite the ridicule and ridicule caused by the
secular and atheist press, more than30,000 people gathered at the Cova for the
September apparition. Now while the Rosary was being prayed the crowd could see
the children stand uplooking towards the east and seeing how admiration took over
their faces. A moment while the children waited, looking and looking, their eyes
on the oak, his joy lit like a flame. They had already fallen to their knees again,
"What do you want from me?"
Continue to pray the Rosary,
my little children. Do it every
day so that the war will cease.
Appearance of 13 Oct 1917
It had rained all night in the
Cova. Our Lady appeared
as she had said.
"What do you want from me?
“I want a chapel built here
in my honor. I want you to
continue praying the Rosary
every day. The war will soon
be over, and the soldiers will
return to their homes.“
Yes Yes""Will you tell
me your name?"I am the
Lady of the Rosary
As the Lady of the Rosary rises to the east, she turned her palms of her
hands to the dark sky. Though the rain had subsided, dark clouds
continued to obscure the sun, which suddenly escapes between
them and looks like a smooth silver disc. - "Look at the sun!"
At this time, two different appearances could be seen: the
phenomenon of the sun witnessed by the 70,000 spectators-
According to the newspaper of the day, “o seculo” - the sun
trembled, made certain sudden movements outside the
cosmic laws – the sun "danced" according to the
typical expressions of the people.
According to the newspaper “o dia” - The sun had a transparent gauze
veil that made it easy to stare at it. The grayish mother-of-pearl hue in
which it turned into a sheet of silver, which broke when the clouds
parted and the silver sun wrapped in the same veil of gray light,
was seen to turn and move in the circle of the open clouds
The light turned a beautiful blue,
as if passing throughthe stained
glass window of a cathedral and
spread its rays on the people.
They were on their knees with
their arms outstretched. The blue
slowly disappeared and then the
light seemed to pass through a
yellow glass. The yellow light dyed
the white handkerchiefs, women's
dark skirts.The same thing
happened in the trees, the stones
and in the mountains. People
wept and prayed bareheaded
before the presence of the miracle
they had expected. The seconds
seemed like hours, that's how
intense they were.
Tio Marto (father of Jacinta and
Francisco) said –“We could
easily look at the sun, which for
some reason did not blind us.
It seemed to flicker first one way
and then the other. Its rays spread
in many directionsand they
painted all things in different
colors, the trees,the people, the
air and the earth. But the most
extraordinary thing for me was
that the sun did not hurt our eyes.
Everything was calm and quiet
and everyone was looking up.
Suddenly it seemed that the sun
stopped spinning. Then it began
to move and dance in the sky,
until it seemed to detach itself
from its place and fall on us.
It was a terrible moment..
These would be the last apparitions in Fatima for Jacinta and Francisco.
However, to Lucia, our Lady appeared a seventh time in 1920, as the Lady
had promised last month of May. This time Lucia was in prayer at the
Cova, before leaving Fatima to go to a girls' boarding school. The Lady
came to encourage her to dedicate herself entirely to God.
Lucia is the eldest of
the seers. She entered
religious life with the
Dorotea sisters, with
whom she lived in
Pontevedra before
entering the Carmelite
cloister in Coimbra,
Portugal. In this period
the following occurred:-
The request of the
Five First Saturdays
of reparation.
-The vision of the Trinity
with the request for the
consecration of Russia.
Vision of the Trinity and petition for the consecration of
Russia. - In June 1929, Lucia was already with the nuns,
the Dorothean Daughters, and she describes this
apparition as follows: "... Suddenly the entire Chapel of
the convent lit up with a supernatural light, and a Cross of
light appeared on the altar, reaching to the ceiling. In the
clarity of the upper part you could see the face of a man
and his body up to the waist. On the chest was a dove of
light, and nailed to the Cross was the body of another man.
Above At the waist, suspended in the air, I could see a
chalice and a large Host, in which drops of blood fell from
the face of Jesus crucified and from the wound in his
side. These drops, trickling into the Host, fell into the
chalice. Under the right arm of the cross was Our Lady.
It was Our Lady of Fatima, with her Immaculate Heart in
her left hand, without a sword or roses, but with a crown
of thorns and flames. Under the left arm of the Cross,
large letters , as if they were crystal clear water, which ran
over the Altar fo signing these words: "Grace and Mercy".
Lucia tells us: I understood that it was the Mystery of the
Holy Trinity that was taught to me, and I received lights
about this mystery, which I am not allowed to reveal". The
Virgin told her: "The time has come when God asks to the
Holy Father that in union with all the bishops of the world
make the consecration of Russia to my Heart, promising to
save it by this means“, and prevent the spread of her
errors and anticipating her conversion

Fatima History of the Apparitions

  • 1.
  • 2. History of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary at Fatima, Portugal 1917 based on Sister Lucia's Memoirs
  • 3.
  • 4. the spring of 1916 Lucia, (10 years old) and her cousins Francisco (9 years old) and Jacinta (7 years old) were herding the sheep in Aljustrel, near the village of Fatima.
  • 5. To shelter from the rain they entered a cave. A strong wind began to move the trees.
  • 6. They saw in the distance above the trees a light, whiter than snow, in the shape of a young man, something transparent, as bright as glass in the Sun's rays.
  • 7. He knelt down, bending his face to the ground. With a supernatural impulse we did the same, repeating the words we heard him say:
  • 8. After repeating this prayer three times, the angel stood up and told us: Pray this way. The hearts of Jesus and Mary are ready to listen to you. And he disappeared. He left us in an atmosphere of the supernatural that was so intensethat we were for a long time without realizing our own existence. The presenceof God was so powerful and intimate that even among ourselves we could not speak "My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask your forgiveness for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love you". -prayer taught by the angel of peace, in Fatima
  • 9. During the summer of 1916 the three cousins were playingin the heat of the day in the garden near the well behind the house of the Saints in Aljustrel. Lucia describes how the angel appeared to them once again scolding them for their lack of spiritual seriousness.
  • 10. Suddenly we saw the same angel near us. What are you doing? he asked them. You have to pray! Pray! The hearts of Jesus and Mary, they have merciful designs for you. You must offer your prayers and sacrifices to God, the Most High.
  • 11. But how should we sacrifice ourselves? I asked. In every way you can offer sacrifices to God in reparation for sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for sinners. In this way you will bring peace to this country, that I am your guardian angel, the Angel of Portugal. Also, accept and bear with patience the sufferings that God will send you.
  • 12. the third appearance of the angel was in Sept 1916 near Cabeço. After repeating this prayer...we saw a strange light shine on us. We lifted our heads to see what happened. The angel held in his left hand a chalice and on it, in the air, there was a host from where the drops of blood fell in the chalice.
  • 13. The angel left the chalice in the air, knelt near us and asked us to repeat three times: Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I deeply adore you, and I offer you my precious body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the ingratitude, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. And for the infinite merits of his Sacred Heart and for that of the Immaculate
  • 14. Then he got up, he took in his hands the chalice and the host. He gave the host to me and the contents of the chalice he gave to Jacinta and Francisco, saying at the same time: Take and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ terribly offended by the ingratitude of men. Offer reparation for them and console God.
  • 15. Once again he bowed to the ground repeating with us the same prayer -Oh Holy Trinity… etc., And he disappeared. Overwhelmed by the supernatural atmosphere that enveloped us, we imitated the angel in everything, kneeling prostrating ourselves as he did and repeating the prayers as he said them.
  • 16. The first apparition of the Virginit happened 13 may 1917 north of the Cova slopes. They were praying the rosary after lunch when they saw lightning in the middle of the blue sky. They prepared to flee from a storm.
  • 17. They saw again a strange light. As they went down they saw another lightning and in an oak tree a lady dressed in white
  • 18. She shone stronger than the sun, radiating rays of clear and intense light, like a crystal cup filled with pure water when the radiant sun passes through it. We stopped in awe of the apparition. We were so close that we stayed in the light that surrounded her, or that she radiated, almost a meter and a half.
  • 19. Please don't be afraid, she said. I'm not going to hurt you. Lucia responded on behalf of the three, as she did during all the appearances. Where are you from? I come from heaven. The Lady was dressed in a pure white mantle, with a gold border that fell to her feet. In her hands she carried the rosary beads that looked like stars, with a crucifix that was the most radiant gem of all. Lucia was not afraid. The presence of the Lady produced only happiness and confident joy.
  • 20. Lucia asked her "What do you want from me? "I want you to come back here on the thirteenth of every month for the next six months at the same time. Then I'll tell you who I am, and what do I most desire? And I will come back here a seventh time.“ And I will go to heaven? "Yes, you will go to heaven.“ And Jacinta?"She will go too."And Francis?"He too, but he must first pray many Rosaries. The Lady looked at Francisco compassionately for a few minutes, tinged with a little sadness.
  • 21. You will offer yourselves to God and you will accept all the sufferings that He sends you, in reparation for all the sins that offend Him and for the conversion of sinners. "Oh yes, we will” Lucy answered. “You will have to suffer a lot but the grace of God will be with you and it will strengthen you”.
  • 22. Lucia relates that while the Lady pronounced these words, she opened her hands, and they were bathed in a heavenly light that seemed to come directly from her hands. The reality of this light penetrated our hearts and souls, and we knew that somehow this light was God, and we could see ourselves embracing her. By an interior impulse of grace we fell on our knees, repeating in our hearts: "O Most Holy Trinity, we adore you. My God, oh my god I love you in the Blessed Sacrament"
  • 23. The children remained on their knees in the flow of this marvelous light, until the Lady spoke again, mentioning the war in Europe, of which they had little or no notion. Pray the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and the end of the war. After this She began to rise slowly towards the east, until she disappeared into the vast distance. The light that surrounded her seemed to enter between the stars, that is why we sometimes said that we saw the heavens open..
  • 24. Although she had agreed to keep these events secret, Jacinta reveals everything to her mother. She was quite incredulous, but her husband Tio Marto trusted the honesty of her children.
  • 25. Lucia's mother, on the other hand, when she finally heard what had happened, believed that her own daughter was not only the instigator of a fraud, but of blasphemy. Lucia quickly understood what the Lady meant when she said that they would suffer a lot. Maria Rosa insisted that Lucia retracted, even threatening her.
  • 26. Finally, she took her by force to the priest, Father Ferreira, but to no avail.
  • 27. On the other hand, Lucia's father, who was not very religious, was practically indifferent, attributing everything to the whims of women. Over the next few weeks, as the children awaited their next visit from the Lady in June, they realised that they had few believers, and many against them in Aljustrel and Fatima
  • 28. The Apparition of June 13, 1917. After reciting the rosary with Jacinta and Francisco together with the people who were present, we saw again the reflection of light that was approaching us (we used to say that it was lightning) and then, Our Lady in the oak tree as in May.
  • 29. "Please tell me, Madam, what do you want from me? "I want you to come here on the thirteenth of next month. I want you to continue saying the Rosary every day. After each mystery, my children, I want you to pray in this way. "Oh my good Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. He leads all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your Divine Mercy "I want you to learn to read and write, and then I will tell you what else I want from you.
  • 30. "Will it take us to heaven? "Yes, I will take Jacinta and Francisco very soon, but you will stay a little longer, since Jesus wants you to make me known and loved on earth. He also wants you to establish worldwide devotion to my Immaculate Heart.
  • 31. "Should I stay in the world alone? "Not alone, my daughter, and you must not be sad. I will be with you always, and my Immaculate Heart will be your consolation and this path will lead you to God.
  • 32. The moment she said the last words, opening her hands, She transmitted to us for the second time, the reflection of that intense light. In it we felt that we were immersed in God. Jacinta and Francisco seemed to be in the part of the light that rose towards the Heavens, and I in the part that spilled over the earth.
  • 33. In front of the palm of Our Lady's right hand was a heart surrounded by thorns that seemed to stick to her. We understood that it was the Immaculate Heart of Mary offended by the sins of humanity, eagerly desiring reparation. The apparition then ended as on the first occasion, with the Lady rising to the east and disappearing into the "vastness of the heavens"
  • 34. The girls' mothers were truly alarmed as the events were not only continuing but rather increasing.
  • 35. Moreover the priest cautioned her sternly, for he suspected that all this was for real, but from the devil.
  • 36. Apparition of July 13, 1917 The July 13 apparition proved to be in many ways the most controversial part of the Fatima message, providing a three-part secret that the children jealously guarded. The first two parts, the vision of hell and the prophecy of the future Russia's role and how to prevent it, would not be revealed until Lucia wrote them in her third diary, in obedience to the bishop, in 1941.
  • 37. The third part, commonly known as the Third Secret, was later communicated to the bishop, who sent it without reading it to Pope Pius XII.
  • 38. A few minutes after arriving at Cova da Iria, near the oak, where a large number of people were praying the Rosary, we saw a flash of light once again, and a moment later Our Lady appeared in the oak tree. "Lucía," said Jacinta, "speak. "The Lady is speaking to you.“ "Yes?" Lucia said. She spoke humbly, apologizing for her doubts with all her gestures, and said to the Lady "What do you want from me? "I want you to come here the thirteenth of next month. Continue to pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war, because only the rosary can obtain this.
  • 39. "I would like to ask you who you are, and if you can perform a miracle so that the whole world knows for sure that you have appeared” You must come here every month, and in October I will tell you who I am and what I want. Then I will perform a miracle so that everyone believes.
  • 40. make sacrifices for sinners, and say often, especially when making a sacrifice: Oh Jesus, this is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against Immaculate Mary's heart.
  • 41. As Our Lady said these words she opened her hands once more, as she had done for the previous two months. The rays of light seemed to penetrate the earth, and we saw as if it were a sea of fire. Immersed in this fire were demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning brands, all black or burnt bronze in color, floating in the fire, now lifted into the air by the flames that issued from themselves together with great clouds of smoke, they fell everywhere like sparks between huge fires, without weight or balance, between shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear
  • 42. Demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and disgusting similarity to hideous unknown animals, black and transparent as burning coals. Horrified and as if asking for help, we looked towards Our Lady, who told us, so kindly and so sadly:
  • 43. You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go.It is to save them that God wants to establish in the world a devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If you do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. This war will cease, but if men do not stop offending God, another more terrible war will begin during the pontificate of Pius XI
  • 44. When you see a night that will be illuminated by a strange and unknown light (this happened on January 28, 1938) you will know that this is the sign that God will give themand that will indicate that it is about to punish the world with war and famine, and with the persecution of the Church and the Pope
  • 45. To prevent this, I come into the world to ask that Russia be consecrated to my Immaculate Heart, and I ask that communions be held on the first Saturday of each month in reparation for all the sins of the world. If my wishes are realised Russia will convert and there will be peace. If not, Russia will spread her errors around the world, bringing new wars and persecutions to the Church, the just will be martyred and the Holy Father will have to suffer a lot, certain nations will be annihilated. But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and she will be converted and the world will enjoy a period of peace.
  • 46. Then, as before, Our Lady began to ascend towards the East, until finally She disappeared into the immense darkness of the firmament. When you say the Rosary, say after each mystery: O my good Jesus, forgive us our sins, deliver us from the fires of hell, especially those most in need of your Divine Mercy.
  • 47. Possession of the Secret proved to be a great test for the three little ones. The family, the neighbors, followers of the apparition, even the clergy, tried unsuccessfully to deny what was revealed. Finally, as the day of the apparition drew near, even the secular and venomously anti-clerical civil government, alarmed at the number of people taking an interest in the Fatima events, attempted to snatch them away and in the process expose the Church as a collaborator in a fraud.
  • 48. Apparition of August 19, 1917 Under the pretext of providing them with their own car, so that the children could move safely in the midst of the crowd that surrounded their homes, the civil administrator or mayor of Fatima, arrived in Aljustrel on the morning of the 13th of August. In an unsuccessful attempt to find out "the truth", on August 11, Arturo Santos, an apostate catholic had planned a trap that would leave the children in his custody and force them to reveal everything.
  • 49. Here he tried to buy them off, threatened them with death and locked them in a cell with other "criminals" to make them retract his story. All this, without any result. Despite their ages, their faith in our Lady and their courage were unruffled. As an act of good faith, he offered to take the three children and their parents to see the priest, who he said he wanted to see them, and so he went to Cova. At the rectory he abandoned this ruse as well as the parents, taking the children alone to the district headquarters in Vila Nova de Ourem, about 9 miles away.
  • 50. Meanwhile in Cova at noon on the 13th, the characteristic external signs of the appearance became visible to the crowd, the largest crowd ever. After these signs ended the crowd dispersed, without knowing anything about the traps set by the government
  • 51. On Sunday the 19th Lucia, her brother Juan and Francisco were herding their sheep in a place called Valinhos. It was located on the side of the same hill opposite Aljustrel where the angel appeared to them twice, a little further north. Around 4 in the afternoon, sensing that the Lady was about to appear, Lucía tried unsuccessfully to convince her brother Juan to go look for Jacinta, until she offered him a few cents to go look for her. As she and Francisco waited they saw the typical light. The moment Jacinta arrived, the Lady appeared.
  • 52. "What do you want from me? "May you come again to Cova da Iria on the thirteenth of next month, and continue to pray the Rosary every day. On the last day I will perform a miracle so that everyone believes."What should we do with the offerings that people leave at Cova da Iria?" I want you to make two litters (to carry statues) for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. I want you and Jacinta to bear one of them with two other girls. You two will wear white. And then I want Francisco, with three children helping him, to carry the other one. Children also have to wear white. what's left of the offerings will help to build the chapel that has to be built here.
  • 53. And looking at them sadly, she said Pray, pray, pray a lot, make sacrifices for sinners. Many souls go to hell because no one is willing to help them with sacrifices.
  • 54. Apparition of September 13, 1917 Despite the ridicule and ridicule caused by the secular and atheist press, more than30,000 people gathered at the Cova for the September apparition. Now while the Rosary was being prayed the crowd could see the children stand uplooking towards the east and seeing how admiration took over their faces. A moment while the children waited, looking and looking, their eyes on the oak, his joy lit like a flame. They had already fallen to their knees again,
  • 55. "What do you want from me?" Continue to pray the Rosary, my little children. Do it every day so that the war will cease.
  • 56. Appearance of 13 Oct 1917 It had rained all night in the Cova. Our Lady appeared as she had said. "What do you want from me? “I want a chapel built here in my honor. I want you to continue praying the Rosary every day. The war will soon be over, and the soldiers will return to their homes.“ Yes Yes""Will you tell me your name?"I am the Lady of the Rosary
  • 57. As the Lady of the Rosary rises to the east, she turned her palms of her hands to the dark sky. Though the rain had subsided, dark clouds continued to obscure the sun, which suddenly escapes between them and looks like a smooth silver disc. - "Look at the sun!"
  • 58. At this time, two different appearances could be seen: the phenomenon of the sun witnessed by the 70,000 spectators- According to the newspaper of the day, “o seculo” - the sun trembled, made certain sudden movements outside the cosmic laws – the sun "danced" according to the typical expressions of the people.
  • 59. According to the newspaper “o dia” - The sun had a transparent gauze veil that made it easy to stare at it. The grayish mother-of-pearl hue in which it turned into a sheet of silver, which broke when the clouds parted and the silver sun wrapped in the same veil of gray light, was seen to turn and move in the circle of the open clouds
  • 60. The light turned a beautiful blue, as if passing throughthe stained glass window of a cathedral and spread its rays on the people. They were on their knees with their arms outstretched. The blue slowly disappeared and then the light seemed to pass through a yellow glass. The yellow light dyed the white handkerchiefs, women's dark skirts. The same thing happened in the trees, the stones and in the mountains. People wept and prayed bareheaded before the presence of the miracle they had expected. The seconds seemed like hours, that's how intense they were.
  • 61. Tio Marto (father of Jacinta and Francisco) said –“We could easily look at the sun, which for some reason did not blind us. It seemed to flicker first one way and then the other. Its rays spread in many directionsand they painted all things in different colors, the trees, the people, the air and the earth. But the most extraordinary thing for me was that the sun did not hurt our eyes. Everything was calm and quiet and everyone was looking up. Suddenly it seemed that the sun stopped spinning. Then it began to move and dance in the sky, until it seemed to detach itself from its place and fall on us. It was a terrible moment..
  • 62. These would be the last apparitions in Fatima for Jacinta and Francisco. However, to Lucia, our Lady appeared a seventh time in 1920, as the Lady had promised last month of May. This time Lucia was in prayer at the Cova, before leaving Fatima to go to a girls' boarding school. The Lady came to encourage her to dedicate herself entirely to God.
  • 63. Lucia is the eldest of the seers. She entered religious life with the Dorotea sisters, with whom she lived in Pontevedra before entering the Carmelite cloister in Coimbra, Portugal. In this period the following occurred:- The request of the Five First Saturdays of reparation. -The vision of the Trinity with the request for the consecration of Russia.
  • 64. Vision of the Trinity and petition for the consecration of Russia. - In June 1929, Lucia was already with the nuns, the Dorothean Daughters, and she describes this apparition as follows: "... Suddenly the entire Chapel of the convent lit up with a supernatural light, and a Cross of light appeared on the altar, reaching to the ceiling. In the clarity of the upper part you could see the face of a man and his body up to the waist. On the chest was a dove of light, and nailed to the Cross was the body of another man. Above At the waist, suspended in the air, I could see a chalice and a large Host, in which drops of blood fell from the face of Jesus crucified and from the wound in his side. These drops, trickling into the Host, fell into the chalice. Under the right arm of the cross was Our Lady. It was Our Lady of Fatima, with her Immaculate Heart in her left hand, without a sword or roses, but with a crown of thorns and flames. Under the left arm of the Cross, large letters , as if they were crystal clear water, which ran over the Altar fo signing these words: "Grace and Mercy". Lucia tells us: I understood that it was the Mystery of the Holy Trinity that was taught to me, and I received lights about this mystery, which I am not allowed to reveal". The Virgin told her: "The time has come when God asks to the Holy Father that in union with all the bishops of the world make the consecration of Russia to my Heart, promising to save it by this means“, and prevent the spread of her errors and anticipating her conversion
  • 65. Summary of the messages and prayers received at Fatima. Prayer of the Decade of the Rosary. O good Jesus, forgive us our sins. Deliver us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need. Forgiveness Prayer. My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you! I ask your forgiveness for those who do not believe,They don't adore, they don't wait, they don't love you. Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore you deeply and I offer you the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for offenses, sacrileges and indifferences with which He is offended. For the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I ask you for the conversion of sinners. Eucharistic prayer. Holy Trinity, I adore you, my God, I love you in the Blessed Sacrament. Prayer of the Sacrifice (Pray while offering a sacrifice.) O my Jesus, it is for your love, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the conversion of sinners.
  • 66. Messages from our Lady of Fatima. “Pray, pray a lot and make sacrifices for sinners. There are many souls who go to hell because there is no one who sacrifices and prays for them." – (August 19, 1917) "It is necessary that they amend, that they ask forgiveness of their sins... offend no more Our Lord, who is already very offended!" (October 13, 1917) To save sinners, the Lord wants to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart" (July 13, 1917) "Whoever embraces devotion to my Immaculate Heart, I promise salvation" (June 13, 1917) "I will come to ask for the consecration of the worldto my Immaculate Heart and the communion of reparation on the first Saturdays of the month“ –(June 13, 1917)
