Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Central Heating Tips -when Things Go Wrong.
1. A central heating system is certainly an
effective method of warming your property.
While in cold temperatures, your central
heating system is crucial to keep the cold out
and deliver a snug household.
2. So it’s easy to see why having a Manchester
plumber or central heating engineer that
knows what they are doing is important.
3. Getting your home effectively insulated is one
important thing, but owning an effective
boiler system will boost the comfort in your
home and will help you save money with your
gas bills.
4. Modern day boiler systems use the same
energy to heat the whole house as a regular
gas fire does.
They are sophisticated equipment but older
systems are liable to breakdown at some
point, so we have listed a few common
problems:
5. Problem : Radiators are making a knocking
noise
Possible Reasons and Solutions : Sludge
builds up in radiators over time. Bubbles can
be created when the sludge reacts with hot
water. Radiators need to be professionally
flushed.
6. Problem : Cold Radiators
Possible Reasons and Recommendations:
Presuming the boiler is working but no heat is
getting through to the radiators. If all radiators
are affected the most likely reason is the failure
of the central heating pump.
After a period of inactivity sometimes the pump
can stick and tapping it gently with a hammer
can cause it to be freed. Bear in mind it could
also be a boiler thermostat problem. Call an
engineer to replace it if this little trick didn’t.
7. Problem : One single radiator not heating up.
Possible Reasons and Recommendations: Are the
radiator valves switched off? Do check it out.
Valves open by turning clockwise .
Is the Thermostatic radiator valve TRV set too
low? It might be that the valve has become stuck
or faulty. Whilst this is unusual for a relatively
simple device there could be associated
problems like sludge in the system causing it to
become stuck.
8. Problem : Radiator is cold in places
Possible Reasons and Recommendations:
If the radiators cold area is at the top then a
simple bleeding with the bleed key is required.
If the bottom is cold then there may be a build
up of sludge in the radiator which is constricting
the flow of hot water through the bottom.
Sludge build up causes the centre of radiators to
become cold as the hot water is diverted by the
deposits. A Power flush may be required.
9. Problem: The boiler doesn't start
Possible Reasons and Recommendations: Has
the pilot light gone out . There should be a
small viewing window where you can see a
flame. In order to reignite the pilot light you
need to press the appropriate button . Refer
to your manual for this. If it doesn’t work call
an engineer.
10. Problem : No power to the boiler.
Possible Reasons and Recommendations: You
will need to check the fuse in the spur. This is
the electrical point which supplies the boiler.
This will be close to the boiler. If its ok check
that the RCD hasn’t tripped
11. The above list of faults is not in any way
comprehensive as there are many others that
appear regularly.
Although brilliantly made and sophisticated
in design boilers can still suffer mechanical,
electrical, water and gas issues.
12. Boilers may appear to be functioning correctly
and it can be tempting to just imagine that
they will always work that way.
Boilers must be serviced regularly by Central
Heating Manchester to ensure that they're
running efficiently and to prevent break
downs at a time that you need them most.
