Districts Latest Offer Year 1 (2009-2010) Hard freeze no steps/lanes no improvement to career steps small improvement in family health care to make up for freeze Maintain 100% single health coverage Maintain 403b No subsidy to move ABA/ECFE onto K-12 salary schedule Year 2 (2010-2011) Step and lane movement 0.75% improvement to Career I and Bachelor’s Career II 1.0% improvement to Masters Career II and Career III Maintain current health insurance Maintain 403b No subsidy to move ABE/ECFE onto K-12 salary schedule
AHEM’s Latest Offer Year 1 (2009-2010) Full lane movement as per contract step slowdown (teachers move to new step in the middle of the year January 2010 and remain there until January 2011 without retro payment) ½ year hard freeze followed by ½ year soft freeze Maintain 100% single health and the dollar increase to single applied to family coverage. Maintain 403b $100,000 susidy from general fund to move ABE/ECFE onto K-12 schedule Year 2 (2010-2011) Full lane movement as per contract step slowdown – teachers move to new step in January 2011 and continue on that step until end of 2010-2011 school year 1.4% improvement to all Career I,II, and II steps Maintain health coverage maintain 403b Another $100,000 subsidy from general fund to move ABE/ECFE onto K-12 schedule
AHEM contract language: Maintain current seniority rights and the rights for part-time teachers
Dollar difference between district’s and AHEM’s last proposal: $2,896,000
Dec 15th Mediation – Unofficial “what if” proposal by AHEM District refused to move at the mediation session by changing a number of parameters the last proposal AHEM was able to meet the district bottom line figure without a hard freeze either year District team refused the “what if” proposal even though it met their bottom line District wants us to take cuts and accept a one year hard freeze based on budgets two years in the future that have not been discussed yet AHEM responded that we need to focus on this year and next year now and not be distracted by future events that may not occur.
Dec 15th Mediation – Unofficial “what if” proposal by AHEM AHEM tried talking real numbers but district continued to insist we use and accounting method based on inflated numbers of teachers (before cuts were made last year) AHEM has continued to reject a one year hard freeze in steps and lanes because of the long term negative impact on career earnings. the impact of a one year freeze in steps could be $30,000 or more for teachers still on steps 1-13 administrators do not follow the same salary schedule and therefore do not have the same sacrifice over time as teachers The only movement of the district was to drop the proposal to compromise seniority language.
Current News December 21st the district bargaining team met behind closed doors and put additional money on the table and sent another proposal to AHEM They will be reviewing the latest proposal on December 30th watch the blog for information over break http://www.ahemnegotiationsnews.blogspot.com/

NOW is the time! Contact school board members. They are in charge and need to know how their time and money is being wasted Play Fair! Don’t change the rules at the end of the game. Settle the contract before we lose another million dollars Why is it like this every two years? What happened to the new, collaborative, district culture? Come to the table so you know first hand what is happening Let us get back to teaching remind them that THEY have been empowered by the voters to run the district and NOT the administration!
