21st Century TeacherCore subjects and 21st Century Themes Must teach the master core subjects: English, reading or language arts. World languages, arts, mathematics, economics, science, geography, history, government and civics. Must promote understanding of academic content at high level by weaving 21st century interdisciplinary themes into core subjects: Global Awareness  Financial, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Literacy Civic Literacy Health Literacy
21st Century TeacherLearning and Innovation Skills Must teach students to be: Creativity and Innovated Critical thinkers and problem solvers Communicators and Collaborators
21st Century TeacherInformation, Media and Technology Skills Must teach students to be: Information literal Media literal ICT (information, communications and technology) literal
21st Century TeacherLife and Career Skills Today’s life and work environments require far more than thinking skills and content knowledge.  The ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally competitive information age require that one pays rigorous attention to developing adequate life and career skills, such as: *Flexibility and Adaptability   * Initiative and Self-Direction *Social and Cross-Cultural Skills *Productivity and Accountability *Leadership and Responsibility
The 21st Century Administrator Visionary Administrators will come less from traditional teacher and principal prep programs and more from the successful side of the business sector Strategic planning will be the driving force with a  focus on the future and on results Create opportunities for students to focus on real world application of knowledge Less spotlight on compliance and more on empowerment Flexibility Marketing Establish partnerships with community stakeholders Focus on networking and collaborating with local businesses and agencies Competition with non traditional schools such as private schools, home schools, charter schools, online courses among others leads to a focus on marketing school offerings Parent and community involvement will be a major focus
21st Century Administrator Facilitator Leads by empowering  Focus on collective knowledge  Collaboration, establishing professional learning communities, sharing best practices will be focuses Viewed less of an authority figure and more of an advocate  Will constantly need to ask, “How can I help you be successful”? Resource Manager Since school needs and student needs are constantly evolving, the school leaders must continually seek out and utilize necessary resources to meet the changing needs Resources must be flexible and transferable to maximize effectiveness and to shift to areas of greatest need
