                        Applied Linguistics 1, Essay Assignment:

General Objective:
      By the completion of this essay, the students will be able to
appraise, contrast, and criticize the fields in which Applied
Linguistics plays part. At the same time, they will be able to support
their ideas on the fields that need further research in the context of
the province.

Specific Objectives:

    •   To practice self-reflection and self-assessment of learning.
    •   To do extensive reading and research on the topic selected.
    •   Demonstrate a range of techniques related to reflective reading
        and writing, which promote language learning.
    •   To demonstrate understanding of the theoretical framework of the
        discipline selected.
    •   To produce relevant research ideas on the field of Applied
        Linguistics.
    •   To comprehend and compose an academic paper.
    •   To examine bibliographical references use.

Assignment:

    1. Write a 750-words or three page reflective essay addressed at
        answering :
    -   HOW   CAN WE APPLY INTO RESEARCH IN OUR PROVINCE, THE TENETS OF THE DISCIPLINE
        GIVEN TO INVESTIGATE?


    The subjects are listed below, you will be working with only one of
    them (topics will be selected according to personal interests and
    assisted by the teacher).

                   -     Neurolinguistics
                   -     Computational Linguistics
                   -     Applied Linguistics
                   -     Educational Linguistics
                   -     Clinical Linguistics
                   -     Forensic Linguistics
                   -     Translation
                   -     Language Planning
                   -     Bilingualism and Linguistic Imperialism
                   -     Clinical Linguistics
                   -     Forensic Linguistics
                   -     Language and Gender Issues
                   -     Critical Discourse Analysis and Social Deprivation
                   -     Corpus Linguistics

              A good essay will be considered to be a well-defined thesis,
              based on the tenets of the discipline investigated; at the
              same time, an excellent essay will be original, insightful,
              and interesting.

              You are requested to use criticism as much or as little as
              you may prefer, however, the preference is always on reading
              papers that are a result of your own personal interaction

            with the texts and self-reflection. Nonetheless, intelligent
            research reports are more than welcome.




    Format:

    1. The length of the essay should be approximately 750 words or
         about three pages.
    2.   You may safely submit an essay that is 10% shorter or longer
         than the guidelines (which translates to one third of a page)
         (reference page is not to be considered as a constituent part of
         the thesis).
    3.   Essays that are shorter or longer than this might be returned
         unread.
    4.   Documentation should be well defined upon books and provable
         web-site resources. In doing so, you are requested to use the
         Harvard referencing method (see:
         http://www.lc.unsw.edu.au/onlib/pdf/elect_ref.pdf)
    5.    Essays must contain:

                 •      Title (according to your main argument)
                 •      Double spaced.
                 •      Printed,
                 •
                Essays should use a 10-point, Verdana font
                 •
                Right, Left, Upper and Lower Margins should be 2,5 cms
             • Glossary (if needed )
             • References page

    Audience/Purpose of the Essay:

          The completion of this paper is compulsory and fail in its
    delivery is considered to be a reason to fail the course.
       Your essays are intended to be published in a collection posted
    on the Internet, hence, any person all around the globe is going to
    be able to read your essay, including current and future students
    of your institution.
       Nonetheless, we request you to address your writing to students
    of our programme (students of ‘Lic. en Lengua Inglesa y Pedagogía
    en Inglés’).

       We, as your professors, will be using your essays to learn about
    our programme and our students advance in the learning outcomes and
    competences development, then please assume, future students, who
    have not been familiarized with the subjects given, are going to be
    your target readers.
       The essay should answer the following question:
    - HOW CAN WE APPLY INTO RESEARCH IN OUR PROVINCE, THE TENETS OF THE DISCIPLINE GIVEN TO
       INVESTIGATE?


    Presentation:
          The essays will be presented to your classmates begining on
    the day of the deadline, June 21st.
          In the presentations, you will be requested to bring to light
    the theoretical framework of the subject investigated, secondly,
    you are required to expose the reflections you developed when
    answering the question posed, and thirdly, you are asked to draw
    conclusions on the answer you produced.
          The presentation is worth a 10% of the course.

Assessment:
      The assessment will be done with application of a holistic
evaluation rubric.
      Appart from all the previous consideration, your essay must
address the question posed, give evidence from research work, and
explain connections between the ideas and the evidence, also, it must
show evidence of proofreading and abide by the assignment format.
      The Essay is worth a 25% of the course

Deadline:
 JUNE 21st.

Presentations:
Begining on June 21st.

Sede Los Angeles Lic. en Lengua Inglesa y Ped. en Inglés We, as your professors, will be using your essays to learn about our programme and our students advance in the learning outcomes and competences development, then please assume, future students, who have not been familiarized with the subjects given, are going to be your target readers. The essay should answer the following question: - HOW CAN WE APPLY INTO RESEARCH IN OUR PROVINCE, THE TENETS OF THE DISCIPLINE GIVEN TO INVESTIGATE? Presentation: The essays will be presented to your classmates begining on the day of the deadline, June 21st. In the presentations, you will be requested to bring to light the theoretical framework of the subject investigated, secondly, you are required to expose the reflections you developed when answering the question posed, and thirdly, you are asked to draw conclusions on the answer you produced. The presentation is worth a 10% of the course. Assessment: The assessment will be done with application of a holistic evaluation rubric. Appart from all the previous consideration, your essay must address the question posed, give evidence from research work, and explain connections between the ideas and the evidence, also, it must show evidence of proofreading and abide by the assignment format.
