This week, IBM reported that even though Q2 total online sales were down, sales from mobile devices
reached 15.1%, up from 13.3% in Q1 2012.
– Shoppers also bought more items (avg. items per order grew 2.6%) in Q2
– Shoppers spent more for each transaction (avg. order values for each purchase grew by 2.3%) in Q2
IAB recently released “Mobile’s Role in the Consumer’s Media Day,” a research report revealing how
receptiveness to advertising and media consumption varies by device, time of day, and location. Highlights
from the report include:
– Once mobile device users engage with an ad, they are extremely likely to take action (80% smartphone users, 89% tablet users)
– For smartphone users, the three most impactful media moments of the day are:
– Early Morning – When they first wake up, nearly 20% access social media (compared to 28% of tablet users)
– Midday –28% cite “free time” windows during this time period that allow them to access media
– Primetime Evening – Both general media and social media consumption spike during primetime TV viewing hours

Half of all adult cell phone owners incorporate their devices into their TV watching experiences, according
to a new survey from Pew Internet. Top 3 activities of “connected viewers” include:
– 38% used their phone to keep themselves occupied during commercials or breaks in something they were watching
– 23% used their phone to exchange text messages with someone else who was watching the same program in a different location
– 22% used their phone to check whether something they heard on television was true
Facebook mobile is now migrating to the new Timeline design.
– The design includes a page’s cover photo, more information from the About section, and new icons to view a page’s photos and details
about its fan base. In the iPhone app, pages feature a larger Like button, spanning across the width of the screen. On the mobile web,
some pages have a smaller Like button because the page also includes the Message button.
