2. In Junior Peak Time 2010 preliminary
rounds, students had to solve a set of
tasks, namely simple
logics, Microeconomics, Managerial Economics &
International Economics. The tasks were taken and
adjusted from the introductory exercises, solved in
SSE Riga. All the specific material and terminology
were explicitly explained in the document or the
source, where participants could read something
themselves, was given. In general, participants
liked the tasks, perceived them as interesting and
responded positively about the level of difficulty.
The number of tasks submitted was a little bit
bigger than the number for the case study.
Participants had 10 days to complete a set of tasks
and a case study.
There were even some discussions about the tasks
online, initiated by the participants themselves
(link).
3. Apart from the tasks, participants were asked to solve a case study, which consisted of three parts. The participants were asked to
make human resource management decisions in a knowledge-based company, optimize production processes, as well as make
marketing decisions regarding a brand introduction in a new market. Additional reading from one of the newest “McKinsey
Quarterly” issues were introduced so as the participants would have a guidelines for their human resource management task
decisions. The second part was made in order to check participants’ logical thinking and common sense, while the last one showed if
the participants were creative and had a business-like mindset.
The case study was made by the organizers with a help of y2 students from SSE Riga.
The final result for
preliminary round was
calculated taking 30% of
result for tasks and 70%
for the case study. The
ranking of participants is
available here.
The set of tasks and the
case study with
additional reading
material can be
