What is a Prairie?
· flat or hilly land covered by grass
· buffalo roam in groups or herds
· not many trees
· rain affects the height of the grass - Eastern prairies get
more rain, therefore, taller grass than Western prairies.
· Rich soil - wheat and oats grow well here

· Since there are no trees on the prairie, animals must find
other ways to escape predators.
· Prairie Dogs & Badgers dig underground tunnels.
· Pronghorns protect themselves by living in herds and
being able to run quickly.
· Prairie predators are coyotes!
