What is Groupon?
Groupon is a savings website that offers a deal-of-the-day. It makes recommendations on products and
services for consumers. Depending on the area the consumer lives in, the service will make new
recommendations every 24 hours, which can save the consumer 40% to 60% off the normal price for the
particular item or service.
How to Use Groupon
In order to use Groupon, start by going to their website at http://www.groupon.com/. The site will utilize
your computer system’s location to determine the area you are in. It will bring you to the main page that will
look similar to the following, but will show a location close to you. Don’t worry if this location is not near
you (such as if you signed in from a location while on vacation), you will input your ZIP code in another
step.
Enter your email address to begin establishing your account. You’ll then be taken to a screen where you
need to enter your ZIP code. You want to input the ZIP code of the area you live in or frequently travel to in
order to pull deals from that area.

You’ve now established a Groupon account for your area. Congratulations! It’s now time to personalize it just
for you. Note that you may receive an e-mail telling you to personalize your account, but that is the same
process we are getting ready to go through so you can ignore the e-mail.
Groupon will want to know whether you are a male or female. Make your selection, or you can choose to skip
this step.

The system will then ask for your home address. This is so it can pull deals specifically based on where you live.
You will be able to add additional locations later on.
You’ll then be asked to pick the areas that interest you so that deals can be customized based on what your
interests are.

Once you’ve made your selection, you will be taken to your main deal page. You’ll see a confirmation message
at the top of the screen.
You’ll also see a listing of deals that are based on the preferences that you previously entered. It will look
similar to this:
To view any deal, simply click on the highlighted title. In this case we will choose the Yoga offer.

Viewing and Purchasing Groupon Deals
When you click on a deal, it will open to that deal’s main page so that you can review the details of the offer. In
this example, we had selected the Yoga offer to review. You will see the details below:

You will see all of the details on this offer as well as the amount of time let on this offer. Once the time runs out
on an offer, you will not be able to buy it. You only have a small window to decide if this is a deal you want to
take advantage of. In this example we have 3 days, 8 hours, 20 minutes and 46 seconds until this offer ends. It
will also show you a total of how many deals have been purchased so far. In this case, over 20 deals have been
purchased. You have the option to buy a deal for yourself, or you can buy one to give as a gift.
If you decide to buy the offer, simply click on the “Buy” button and you’ll be taken to a checkout screen. You’ll
simply fill out the form like you would with any other online purchase and enter your payments details. Once
the payment is processed you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
Groupon has two different types of offers: direct buy and vouchers. If your offer has a voucher that will be used
for redemption, you will be able to print the voucher. Simply go your account, which is in the top right-hand
corner of the screen. From the drop-down menu select My Groupons. Once on the page select View Voucher.
The voucher will give you the directions on how to redeem it.

Please note that vouchers can expire, so be cognizant of any expiration dates. If for some reason your voucher
has expired don’t despair. You can redeem the voucher for the amount paid. You will find more details on this
under Groupon’s Terms of Service.
Direct Buy offers are processed like a traditional online order and the product is generally mailed directly to you.
Groupon Now!
Groupon Now! are deals that are available only for a limited amount of time. These deals generally must be
used within a few hours or the same day. They are often limited in quantity as well. You will easily be able to
identify Groupon Now deals because they are tagged with a clock icon . Deals can be purchased in the same
manner as any traditional Groupon deal.
Business Use of Groupon
Advertising on Groupon
Businesses can advertise on Groupon by becoming a part of the Groupon Works program, which is located at
https://www.grouponworks.com.
Many businesses can utilize Groupon to market their products and services. Campaigns can be customized to fit
the business’ needs. This allows businesses to reach a larger group of consumers. This drives more traffic to
their website or brick and mortar business and increases their visibility in the public eye.

Just as with the traditional Groupon website, you will be taken through the steps to set up your merchant
account so that you can get your offer set up and running in no time.
There is no up-front cost to advertise on Groupon. They will get a percentage of your profits, which will vary
based on your campaign. You will get access to your personal Merchant Center, which will help you track the
