1. Adobe Is Enhancing Behance Beginning
With Free Portfolio Sites
In December, Adobe acquired Behance, the online portfolio service/community. So now that
Adobe has Behance in their hands, what are they going to do with it? Adobe has been largely
focused on cloud services and subscriptions for its software so adding Behance to the mix seems
like a logical step.
Recently Adobe outlined their focus for this newest acquisition:
The Adobe community will get additional features such as the ability to connect with
other members and also job-related networking features. There may even be additional
enhancements to the job list option.
While Behance’s community is not ideal; it will allow better community features for
Adobe. There will be an addition of social networking features like the ability to get
feedback from members as well as sharing work online by connecting with Adobe’s
workflows. These options should be available around May 2013.
Last but not least, Behance is working on additional paid features that will relate more to
the careers and online portfolio sections. With Adobe’s already existing Creative Cloud
section, this makes the perfect addition and opportunity to join Behance and Adobe
together.
Creative Cloud users who are paid subscribers are already able to get free access to
Behance’sProSites which allows for customized online portfolios with cleaned up URL’s and
excellent UI’s.
The Behance platform allows artists to showcase their work in an online portfolio environment.
With this platform there is no need for website services. Not to mention it is relatively easy to
use. Behance’s 32 employees will work for Adobe but will they will remain in their New York
offices. Behance’s CEO Scott Belsky will now become Adobe’s community vice-president.
Behance was founded in 2006 and raised $6.5 million from investors like Union Square
Ventures, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (Bezos Expeditions), Alexis Ohanian, Garrett Camp and
others. It was reported that Adobe purchased Behance for around $150 million.
Behance will begin to intertwine itself with Adobe’s Creative Cloud more in the future. It’s
something that you definitely want to watch.
