Whether you are a professional trainer or trying to bring agility to your organization or team, you no doubt have encountered the difficulty in conveying agile values and principles. Learning practices and techniques is easy in comparison; You learn by doing. But how do you teach a philosophy or mindset? How do you 'do' a value? Through trial and error, through hundreds of classes, through training thousands of agile practitioners, we have put together a set of best practices (and not-so-best practices) for delivering powerful agile learning experiences. Participants in this session will walk away with a toolkit they can put to use the next day. Agile adoption has been typically understood as a one-off organisational process involving a staged selection of Agile development practices. This does not account for the differences in the pace and effectiveness of individual teams transitioning to Agile development. About Rashina Hoda: Dr Rashina Hoda is an internationally renowned researcher and senior lecturer at the University of Auckland. She has 10+ years' experience studying Agile teams and is the author of 60+ publications on Agile self-organisation, project management, knowledge management, reflective practice, task allocation and more. Rashina served as the Research Chair of the Agile India 2012 conference and recently received a Distinguished Paper Award at the flagship international conference on software engineering (ICSE2017) for her ‘grounded theory of becoming Agile’ that explains the multiple dimensions of Agile transitions in practice. She created and teaches the Agile course at UoA in close collaboration with industry and loves to present the 'voice of Agile research' to industry and academia alike.

Contemporary research in neuroscience provides new insights into the deeply social nature of the human brain and its importance for how we get things done at work. The emerging practice of NeuroLeadership (a term coined by Dr. David Rock) incorporates the most recent findings from neuroscience research with the latest in leadership theory. This workshop will explore the brain science of social interactions, why they matter so much and why change is often so difficult. The SCARF brain-based model for collaborating with and influencing others will be introduced. We’ll look at how our brains respond when we interact with other people and how this knowledge can be applied to boost performance. Key outcomes will be to improve everyday coaching conversations and to learn to strategically apply science to human performance. http://concentricleadership.com

Good Work Design is a holistic and inclusive process that considers all aspects of human performance within the system of work. It has benefits for the workforce in aiming to enhance health, wellbeing and safety but also benefits organisations through optimising productivity, flexibility and quality of products and services. Using the ubiquitous problems of manual tasks and psychosocial hazards as lens for viewing work design, this presentation will highlight how human factors and ergonomics can enhance work performance and satisfaction.
