This document provides an example of how to create a successful English camp with the theme "English Around the World." It includes suggestions for choosing a strong theme, creating a detailed schedule, planning engaging language-focused activities, and lists resources for additional support. An example activity called "Shop 'Til You Drop!" is described in detail to teach food vocabulary through a shopping relay race between student teams representing different continents. The goal is to make learning English fun and show students its international importance through creative and interactive lessons.

2. THEME A strong theme will help structure activities and will help create a storyboard for your camp

3. EXAMPLE THEME: “English Around the World” Introduction This year for Princess Chulabhorn’s College Chiang Rai English Camp, we have chosen the theme “English Around the World.” Seeing as that English has become one of the, if not the most prominent language in many countries around the world, we feel it is vital to stress the importance of having a strong command of the English language at an early age. While all activities will be entertaining, educational, and exciting for the students, they will also stress English as an international language. In order to keep things organized throughout the duration of English camp, students will be separated into teams. These teams will be named after the continents of the world (Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America- all except Antarctica) and will have different colored headbands in order to differentiate the six teams from one another. By focusing on these six continents and various aspects of their culture, we hope to show the students that regardless of what they do or where they go in life, being able to speak English is an extremely valuable skill. 13. To practice making and receiving requests (i.e.: “Do you have any broccoli?”

15. Students will enter station and sing team cheer (5 minutes)

16. Unscrambling Activity: (2 minutes)

17. Students will each receive a food vocabulary word. The entire group will be asked to sort and stick the vocabulary words to the correct boards.

18. Relay Race Activity: (5 minutes)

19. Students will be divided into four groups and matched with a particular food group. One student from each group will be selected as the “clerk” and the rest of the students will be “shoppers”. The shoppers then run one at a time (relay style) and give the five vocabulary words to the clerk.

20. After relay, Kali will take away two or three vocabulary words randomly from each clerk.

21. Shopping Activity:(15 minutes)

22. Paige will explain instructions and reinforce phrases such as “Do you have any ___? “ “No, I don’t have any ___”, etc.

23. Clerks will be told to answer “Yes” or “No”, but not actually give them the vocabulary words. Shoppers to run one at a time (relay-style) to ask the clerks if they have a particular food item. If “NO”, they are finished and can sit on the ground. If “Yes”, they can get behind another line to ask a different clerk.

24. If a student is able to buy all items on his/her list, then they win the game. The number of winners who are awarded prized will be at the discretion of Paige (perhaps determined by speed of completion).

27. Velcro and/or tape (if tape, several rolls will work best)

28. Four poster boards labeled “Fruits”, “Vegetables”, “Meat”, and “Drinks”
