Roles organize who can see data.
Users generally have access to data
   that belongs to them. Roles enable
   others to access their data.
   Specifically, users above them in the
   hierarchy.
If a role is not assigned, the default
   ―none specified‖ is recorded in SF.

Can access all standard Chatter people, profiles, groups, and files.
