Technology and Me A personal timeline of educational technology
Overview My name is Travis Oh I started school in 1990 in Honolulu. I graduated from high school in 2004 in Honolulu. I first went to college at UH Manoain ‘04 When I finish my degree, I hope to become an educator or something that revolves around music.
My definition of educational technology - Is a tool to help students in whatever subject area they are studying. However, students need to have a firm grasp of the subject before technology can be integrated.
Web sites on ed tech history http://educationaltechnology.ca/couros/780 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Educational_technology http://www.eduref.org/cgi-bin/res.cgi/Educational_Technology
Kindergarten technology Didn’t use computers in the class Computers during that time that would be used in the classroom would be apples.
High school technology We used Mac computers Learned to design web pages Mostly used to type papers
College technology By now most students own a lap top computer, either an apple or pc Some classrooms use “smartboards” Over heads are still used
A vivid technology learning experience Instead of writing music notation, a program can be used “Music slowdowners” to hear every detail of a song MP3’s audio clips can be accessed from a Class homepage
A technology I want to use in my classroom I would like students to have access to a MP3 device that can also record Students can hear what they sound like as well as listen to music geared towards the classroom
My vision of the classroom of the future Every student will be assigned a personal Mp3 player as well as a laptop. Programs on the laptop will be geared towards music content
A challenge for teaching Advances in technology are rapid and new technology will be outdated sooner than expected Getting students to use a program that they never heard about. Having access to these programs so students can improve their technological skills
Words of wisdom One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. ~Elbert Hubbard, The Roycroft Dictionary and Book of Epigrams, 1923
