2. Before I begin designing my film poster and
double page spread including the review i need
to carry out some preliminary research to
demonstrate that I understand the typical
codes and conventions needed on both a film
poster and a double page spread.
My Research should include analysis of codes
and conventions including layout, style,
colour, typeface, language and images. Posters
for films similar in style and content to your
production. For my Double page spread a film
review from a recognised film magazine.
3. The title of the movie ‘SKYFALL’ is
situated at the bottom of the movie. It is
most dominant and is in a bold, clear
colour.
The Background of the movie posters
features the obvious logo of James Bond.
This logo is only associated with ‘007’
therefore audiences will easily identify
the movie, genre and actor.
The simple, yet effective, black and white
theme conveys the type of mood; smart,
cunning, sly and sleek. The colour also
adds that masculine/macho effect which
means that the movie would most likely
appeal to boys/males.
The main actor is placed in the middle of
the poster with a Gun, instantly
recognising that the genre of the movie is
action.
The 007 logo is placed underneath the
title. The 007 has been graphically
designed into a title as well as a logo
which is worldly recognised.
4. The title, ‘Burlesque’ has been situated in
the centre vertically. This breaks the
typical conventions of a movie poster. This
gives the audience something different to
look at.
The image in the background had been placed
in order to fit around the title. The theme
follows a black and white convention as well
as adding a pink for the title, the
strapline and the women’s lips.
The use of the word play ‘it takes a legend
to make a star’ corresponds with the
characters on the poster. The ‘legend’ is
Cher and the ‘star’ is Christina.
The typeface of the title links with the
genre of the movie. It represents a
‘burlesque’ type of theme. The colour pink
also add to the theme by making it appear
feminine.
The colour pink will also attract a female
audience as it is a feminine colour girls
are more likely to be attracted to it. In
addition to this it could be suggested that
the lips make a bold statement of female
sexuality.
5. The type font for the title ‘Orphan’ is
written in a child's handwriting. This
deceives the audience by making them think
the child is innocent when its completely
ironic. In addition to this the typeface has
a subtle glow around it making it seem like a
thriller.
The main image is of the child. Although you
would think the child is innocent her eyes
are darkened and she wears a collar around
her neck, this makes the audience want to
know more about the little girl.
The statement strapline at the top of the
film poster ‘THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH
ESTHER’ draws the reader in as it poses a
question and in order to find out they would
have to watch the movie. Also the statement
short and easy to understand.
The theme colour is very subtle and shady,
suggesting it’s a dark thriller. The use of
the colour red for her collar around her neck
may suggest weirdness about ESTHER. Her eyes
are darkened and she has stern look on her
face, this re-emphasises the fact that
there’s something wrong with her, In contrast
to a normal child who smiles and wears bright
and colourful clothes.
The second strapline at the bottom is also a
question ‘can you keep a secret?’ it is
written in blood red showing adding to the
theme of a thriller.
