ORAN’S MUSIC CALLS TO PEOPLE’S HEARTS
AND INVITES THEM TO PAINT A BIGGER DREAM
AND DARE LIVE LIFE FOR ALL IT’S GOT…
• Oran’s song “Butterfly” exploded onto Highveld in January
this year. Since then Oran’s music is soaring higher, having
extended radio airplay on several radio stations and fans
across the country requesting to purchase the album
“Paint a Life”.
• Oran’s first single, “Butterfly” was in the Homebru Top 10
(reaching number 3) for 12 weeks straight.
• His song was the only song on the charts to receive 16
weeks in high rotation.
2. • Oran’s future singles: “Martha is Saying”, “Round your
Finger” and “This too shall Pass” are set to charge onto the
airwaves in 2011.
• Oran is currently in talks with Highveld to become a
partner in releasing his debut album.
• Oran will be opening for Josie Field, a success SA Singer
Songwriter on the 4th of June, 2011 during her Official
Johannesburg Album Launch event.
The Artist:
Oran is a singer/songwriter who performs meaningful songs, each with a powerful message. He was
born in Israel and has lived in South Africa most of his life and travels the globe extensively. Oran has
been writing songs for more than 12 years and has over 60 songs in his repertoire.
5. From a young age Oran’s purpose became clear, he would show the world that possibilities are
endless and potential limitless and he would use his music to do it. As a young man Oran worked with
Israeli/Palestinian interfaith work, teaching peace and conflict resolution to the youth. Oran has
travelled into the deepest part of the Amazon jungle to play music and pray with the Mayan’s in their
ancient temples, to the pyramids in
Egypt to unite nations with a cause
for humanity and peace and to the far
reaches of the east to Nepal where he
inspired youth to implement positive
change in their villages.
Oran lives by the words of Einstein:
“Imagination is more important than
knowledge. For knowledge is
limited…while imagination embraces
the entire world...” Oran is an
advocate of using our uncommon
sense to seek meaningful answers
both personally and globally to create
a better life. Each of his songs has a
profound story of his unique life
experiences all over the world and
each one conveys an important
message about life, meaning and
possibility.
Oran’s music is a celebration of
both dark and light and captures
the diverse and intensely
beautiful moments in life.
Beyond the catchy melodies that
easily replay in your mind, lie
lyrics that tug at the core of what
makes each of us so perfectly
human. Oran’s songs pierce
through the comfort of the
known and call to the heart. His
music emerges from a poet’s
heart, and that is authentic and
captivating.
“I listen to your album
everyday on the way
back from work and it
awakens my soul.” Pia
Storm, Event manager (for MTV Africa and others)
Favourite Lyric quotes:
“Then it lifts you to remind you how darkness shapes the light..”
“No more chasing shadows or thinking what could have been..”
“If the earth shifts I’ll shift it right to your feet and if the cards may fall I’ll make them
fall as lovers meet…”
6. The Band:
The band has formed a strong unit of musicians who wholeheartedly love Oran’s music and are
dedicated to performing nationally and internationally and leaving their mark across the globe.
Together they have huge presence wherever they are and easily noticed when they walk into a room
as a band, quite unforgettable.
Story of band coming together…
Makati Molekwa – Bassist
Makati Molekwa, a Johannesburg‐based bassist, born in Soweto, South
Africa. Makati is a truly multi‐talented artist; who has achieved recognition
as a bassist, composer, producer and music director. He is a cultured and
versatile electric and double bassist in South Africa. At age 19, after he
attended at a musical school at FUBA Academy, he enlisted at Tshwane
University of Technology studying music majoring in Bass Guitar.
Through the years, Makati has performed countless shows in many Music
Festivals, Night Clubs and Performing Arts Events throughout South Africa,
neighbouring African countries and Europe.
Giving him the ultimate form of respect, Makati perfumed with some of
the finest musicians and musical organisations of our time, including Sipho
‘Hot Sticks’ Mabuse, Kaolin, Super Queens, Ringo Madlingozi, Frank Oppermann, Papa Wemba, and
many more.
Reyno van der Linde – Drummer
I started playing drums in 2002, I was 17 years old. In 2003 two of my
friends and I started a small school band, we played a few covers but the
band only lasted a year. In 2004 I joined an Afrikaans rock group called
Sonsteek and have been playing for them ever since.
I studied music for two years at Damelin music college ( 2006 – 2007 ) with
drums as my major subject. After college I started working in the music
industry playing drums for various companies and solo acts, these include
the following: The Barnyard theatres( South Africa and Bahrain) , RJ
Benjamin, Danny K, BMG gospel group.
I started playing for Oran as a session drummer but after a few rehearsals
and a show I realized that I enjoyed playing and listening to his music more
than I usually do in other sessions. I joined the group permanently after
that.
I find in Oran’s songs and lyrics an almost instinctive belief that he
has the ability to reach through to people and make himself be
heard by being inspiring to listen to in his lyrics and melodies.
ALRON MATTHEWS – Lead Guitarist
It all started with a bribe from his mom to improve his math marks and presto he got his first guitar!
Alron then began teaching himself guitar before taking lessons.
After school Alron enrolled studied with Andy Suche at Allenby Campus for two years obtaining his
advanced diploma in guitar, contemporary music, studying teaching and song writing to mention a
few.
7. During his first year Alron met Jan Hoogendyk (Elvis Blue) and started
their first official band called Storyline recording a few songs in the
college studio. They went on to form Janitor and MONO which was
signed to Gallo Records after which he left the band to pursue his
own career.
Alron enrolled at Berklee online music school completing all three the
required arranging subjects. At the same time he also recorded and
produced in his own studio, Brown Cow Productions! Here many
demo tracks where recorded as well as music for TV ‐ including
SIMBA, all the surround sound music for DSTV’s HD channel as well as
for many corporate events.
After working in the music industry for 13 years Alron has had the pleasure of working with many
great artists. He has performed with Heinz Winckler, Kurt Darren, Juanita, Brandon October only to
name a few.
Alron has played the ‘cover scene’ starting with the Sasha Lee Band where he went overseas

Alron then had the opportunity to play for Tokyo Groove where he travelled the country playing
corporate gigs for companies such as Sasol, GSK, Vodacom, MTN, Alexendar Forbes, Top TV, Discovery
Health only to name a few. The highlight of his career with Tokyo Groove was playing for the ‘VIP
guests’ at the opening of the 2010 World Cup at Soccer City!
The need to play original songs has led Alron to Oran Cohen’s band.
Said Alron “Oran’s music is more intelligent and soulful than most
out there! His passion and emotion really emanates through his
voice and his song writing. ” The band is a well‐rounded solid group
of artists with each bringing their own musical experience and
