The goal of the Harbor House youth shelter and sandwich shop design was to create a safe, comfortable, and inviting space for children. This was achieved through warm colors on both floors and a fun but warm comic book theme inspired by the local comic festival. Features like Superman-colored chairs, large comic art, and conversation bubble shelves help convey the theme. The overall feeling is intended to be fun yet warm and welcoming.

1. CONCEPT STATEMENT
The goal of the design for this Portland,
Oregon Harbor House was to make a
safe and comfortable environment that
children feel like they can come too.
This goal was achieved through the
warm colors throughout the two floors
and in the sandwich shop fun but warm
theme. The comic book theme was
chosen in accordance to the district of
Portland the Harbor House is located.
The Harbor House in located in the
Stumptown district and every year
there is a comic festival that takes
place there. This comic book theme was
achieved through the Superman colored
café chairs, the large comic character
art work, and the conversation bubble
shaped shelves and coffee table.
Overall the feeling of the space is fun
but warm and inviting.
