It allows us to worktogether on projectssuch as theLIPs and we continue to support them by respecting the unique community basis of the Local Immigration Partnerships. Orientation to Ontario / L’Ontario, c’est chez moi is a joint federal / provincial initiative designed to ease the transition of newcomers by providingaccess to standardized information about settling in Ontario and connectingnewcomers to community services shortlyafterarrival. The materialisavailable in workshop, online and print formats.Currently, CIC and MCI are piloting the workshops with 10 immigrant servingagenciesacross the province for the remainder of this fiscal year. A formalevaluationwillbeconducted and will help informnextsteps for the program.CLARS (CoordinatedLanguageAssessment and Referral System) The pilot of the CLARS concept is being expanded across the RegionThe pilot is currently available in 3 communities (London, Kitchener-Waterloo and Kingston-Belleville)This Fall, the pilot will be expanded to 8 other communities By the end of FY 2013-14, we expect the pilot to be available across the province of Ontario Ontario is working on issuing LINC certificates that will validate the CLB 4 level of students required for citizenship. The HART database will be used to print the certificates. Ontario has receivedhalf of the 600$ million fundingthat has been made available to all provinces outsideQuebec for the current fiscal year.
- The former SIGAM has been transformedintoIntegration, composed of Settlement, Resettlement and Multiculturalism. Funding in Ontario will reflect the 90/10 ratio for direct / indirect services with more funding for direct servicesOntario currently manages 344 SettlementCAswith 241 SPOs. Ontario has 7 CAswith 7 SPOs for Resettlement Programs. Wecurrently have 15 CAs for Multiculturalism Programs. As Bruce emphasized, the Departmentismovingtowards an allocation of funding for as many direct services as possible. Wewillbeimplementingthis, takingintoconderation, of course, the supports necessary to offer excellent services to clients. The 90/10 funding formula willbebeneficial to clients. Resettlement – Ontario supports Canada’shumanitarian mission as a leader in the resettlement of refugees. In 2011, Ontario welcomed 17, 259 refugees, whichrepresents 17% of the 99, 458 permanent residentsreceived by Ontario in the sameyear.
- Workingwith the sector: myrole in our new world is not onlythat of a liaison with the audience by participating in eventssuch as the OCASI ED Forum and OCASI Board meetings. It isalso to ensurethat national, strategic and operational directions are fullyimplemented in Ontario. I willbeparticipating a large number of meetings, includingthose of MIC (Municipal Immigration Committee) and SIJPPC (Settlement and Integration Joint Policy and Program Committee), as well as in internalregional and national meetings in order to remainabreast of policites and procedures to beimplemented. All of thisworkwillbedonewith the objective of ensuringthatwe have a vision for service delivery in Ontario.
- The recruitmentevent of Destination Canada takes place everyyear in Paris and Brussels. This is a job fairwhereemployers interview potential immigrants to Canada. Job postings are made available on the website of Destination Canada in advance of the event in November. Ontario Region has developed a pilot project – a continuum of services for francophone immigrants in Sudbury recruitedat Destination Canada. A number of weldersfromTunisiaarrived in Sudbury in winter 2012 and weredirectedimmediately to language programs, information, orientation and othersettlement services provided in the city of Sudbury. Our goal has been to connect the immigrants with the francophone community, sothattheycanintegratequicklyintotheir new city and country. We continue to support Destination Canada in order to engage employerswhowillbehiring francophone immigrants. Wewillalso continue to support the francophone networks in Ontario in order to ensurethat the priorities for the francophone communities are implemented in all geographical areas of the Region.
- Modernization has an impact on Ontario Region in terms of our management of risk, ourincreasedworkload and ourreducedworkforce. We are committed to simplifying and streamliningour administrative processes in order to adhere to expectedtimelines. Submissions of claims are expected to be on a quarterly basis in the near future. The streamlining of approvalswillreduce the turnaround time for processingCAs. Weremaincommitted to have CAsready for April 1, 2013.
- Ontario RegionsupportedNHQ in issuing a CFP in Q2 by identifying regional priorities through a Settlement Survey, the LIPS working group and the francophone sub-committee. A regional working group created the critical path for the CFP. Officers provided support to NHQ by assessing proposals for eligibility. Ontario Region will organize proposals received in response to the CFP and distribute them to local offices. Proposals will be assessed in the context of their geographical area, using the expertise of these local offices. Decision-making on funding will be local / regional.
