- Good morning everyone. Thank you for this opportunity to speak to you today about the importance of Youth Support. I hope that you’re as excited as I am about today’s conference. You have a busy day ahead with case studies, breakout sessions and young people’s input. We have already come a long way to improving services for young people and there’s a wealth of experience in this room; today provides us with the opportunity to explore ‘Emerging Practice’ across the region and provide a catalyst for developing new methods of delivering high quality provision for our most vulnerable young people. We’re doing well but there’s more to do! – Delivering the ‘Aiming High for Young People’: ten year strategy for positive activities and under reforms will depend on the commitment of LA and the full range of local partners – including the third sector parents and Young People themselves. We all know that targeted youth work is complex to deliver; we’re working with young people experiencing problems or at risk of getting into difficulty. Today in the breakout sessions we must examine the issues facing those at risk and the critical role of schools the community/vol sector and multi agency working. The question we’re asking today is, “are we on track to meet the Government’s agenda for improving TYS as part of IYSS, and how can we adapt our delivery models in light of the best practice on show today”.
