 X was born in NewYork City to immigrant non-observant Jewish parents, and raised in Great
Neck NY, where her father, Lester L ______ (1909–1971), ran a publishing business. While in
high school, X studied dance under George Balanchine and Martha Graham. X graduated
summa cum laude in Sanskrit and Indian Studies from Radcliffe College in 1962, and received
an M.A. from Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in June 1963. She then studied in
India in 1963–1964 with a 12-month Junior Fellowship from the American Institute of Indian
Studies. She received a PhD from Harvard University in June 1968, with a dissertation on
'Asceticism and Sexuality in the Mythology of Siva,' supervised by Daniel H. H. Ingalls, Sr.. She
obtained a D. Phil. in Oriental Studies from Oxford University, in February 1973, with a
dissertation on ‘The Origins of Heresy in Hindu Mythology,’ supervised by R.C.Zaehner.
According to the HindustanTimes,Y was a No. 1 bestseller in its non-fiction category in the
week of October 15, 2009.Two scholarly reviews in the Social Scientist and the Journal of the
American Oriental Society, though praising X for textual scholarship, both criticized X’s poor
historiography and lack of focus.
 Wendy Doniger
 X is an Indian actress and choreographer, who started her career
as a dancer with Uday Shankar in 1935. Her first feature film was
'Neecha Nagar', directed by Chetan Anand in 1946. Her films
include 'Bhaji onThe Beach', 'The Mystic Masseur', 'Bend It Like
Beckham', 'Dil Se', 'Cheeni Kum' and 'Saawariya'. She was awarded
the Padma Shri in 1998, Kalidas Samman in 2001, and Sangeet
Natak Akademi Fellowship for Lifetime Achievement in 2004.

 X was born and raised in Delhi, where he attended St. Columba's School, New
Delhi. He then did his BA (Hons) and MA in History from St. Stephen'sCollege,
Delhi, University of Delhi . Later he completed his education at London where he
did M.Sc. in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from London
School of Economics and Political Science, UK.
 He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1973 and worked in Madhya
Pradesh and with the Government of India. He was the 13thVice-Chancellor of
the Jamia Millia Islamia, a central university in Delhi.
But, most of us know him due to his current designation, owing to which he has
been in the news regularly over the last few months.

X was a popular comedy sitcom written by comedy writer Sharad Joshi aired for the first time
in1984. It was one of the first sitcoms and one of the biggest hit shows on Indian television after
the state owned television, Doordarshan, started sponsoring its programs.
The title song was sung by Kishore Kumar and the show had such actors as Shafi Inamdar,
Swaroop Sampat, Rakesh Bedi,TikuTalsania, Satish Shah, Farida Jalal.
A trademark of the show were the characters played by Satish Shah. In each episode, Shah played
a different character who played a key role in the plot.

his kitty.
 However, he is most remembered for a non-film
composition.This composition is iconic in its
own way and has remained in currency over
many years since it was first launched.

word X could be a combination of two Sanskrit words meaning
summary and form, hence meaning the instrument that can
summarize every style of music or playing. It is said to most
resemble the sound of the human voice – able to imitate vocal
ornaments such as gamaks (shakes) and meends (sliding
movements). However some musicians claim differently about the
etymology. X widely implies “a _____ colours” indicating its
adaptability to a wide range of musical styles, its flexible
tunability, and its ability to produce a large palette of tonal colour

society-lady from Maharashtra, she made a major mark as

popular soap brand, a concession then only granted to top

 When Hanuman took a dip in the waters of sea, after burning whole of Lanka with the fire
burning on his tail, a drop of his perspiration fell in to mouth of a mighty fish. Out of this the X
was born.
 According to another, slightly different version, when Hanuman took a dip in sea, for cooling
himself after burning Lanka; a drop of his seed got discharged, due to extreme heat
generated in his body and labor by him, which fell in to mouth of a giant fish-cum-reptile like
creature, whose name was X, thus making it pregnant.
 The fish was caught by people of Ahiravana, who ruled Patala, the nether-world.The X, was
discovered, when stomach of fish was cut open and named after it. Ahiravana, seeing his
strength & virility gave him job of guarding, the gates of his Kingdom.
The Jethwa clan of Kshatriyas claim their descent from X. As per folk tales of their clan, X had a son
named Mod-dhwaja and he had a son named Jethi-dhwaja. Jethwas claim descant from Jethi-
dhwaja and worship Hanuman as their Iṣṭa-devatā.The Jethwa dynasty of Gujarat, who once ruled
major part of Kathiawar and later the princely state of Porbandar, therefore, had the image of
Hanuman on their Royal flag.

 In 2005, restoration and renovation works on the X were undertaken, after a
long gap of 50 years, to give a face lift to the monument at an estimated cost of
Rs 45679 lakhs.
 Built of red and pink sandstone, the palace is situated on the main
thoroughfare in the heart of Jaipur’s business centre. It forms part of the City
Palace, and extends to the Zenana or women's chambers, the chambers of the
harem. It is particularly striking when viewed early in the morning, lit with the
golden light of sunrise.

 X(Strobilanthes kunthiana) is a shrub that used to grow abundantly in the shola
grasslands of theWestern Ghats in South India above 1800 metres.The Nilgiri
Hills, which literally means the blue mountains, got their name from the
purplish blue flowers of X that blossoms gregariously only once in 12 years.The
Paliyan tribal people apparently used it to calculate their age.
 This plant belongs to the genus Strobilanthes which was first scientifically
described by Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck in the 19th century.
The genus has around 250 species, of which at least 46 are found in India. Most
of these species show an unusual flowering behaviour, varying from annual to
16-year blooming cycles; on the national scale there is often confusion about
which plant is flowering.

After the success of X, a sequel also written by Javed Siddiqqi, had its premiered at PrithviTheatre, Juhu, on September 28, 2004. It was directed by Salim Arif and lead roles performed by Sonali Bendre and Farooque Shaikh. 

  • 62.  In 2005, restoration and renovation works on the X were undertaken, after a long gap of 50 years, to give a face lift to the monument at an estimated cost of Rs 45679 lakhs.  Built of red and pink sandstone, the palace is situated on the main thoroughfare in the heart of Jaipur’s business centre. It forms part of the City Palace, and extends to the Zenana or women's chambers, the chambers of the harem. It is particularly striking when viewed early in the morning, lit with the golden light of sunrise.  In the renovation process Belgian colored glass was installed to beautify the monument and ended up taking the essence of the monument.  X, please.

  • 65.  X(Strobilanthes kunthiana) is a shrub that used to grow abundantly in the shola grasslands of theWestern Ghats in South India above 1800 metres.The Nilgiri Hills, which literally means the blue mountains, got their name from the purplish blue flowers of X that blossoms gregariously only once in 12 years.The Paliyan tribal people apparently used it to calculate their age.  This plant belongs to the genus Strobilanthes which was first scientifically described by Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck in the 19th century. The genus has around 250 species, of which at least 46 are found in India. Most of these species show an unusual flowering behaviour, varying from annual to 16-year blooming cycles; on the national scale there is often confusion about which plant is flowering.  X, please.
