Storyboarding
DESCRIPTION
This workshop revolves around your present and past
experiences in both academic and professional settings.

To start, you will choose one of four open-ended scenarios.
From this scenario you’ll build a storyboard based on your
personal experiences.
Once you have completed your story, you’ll pinpoint the key
moments that influenced your path.

Then we’ll move the discussion online, where we’ll identify
overlaps and themes from everyone’s stories.

The remainder of this slideshow demonstrates what
physical participants will be completing at the
Proposium event.

As a virtual participant you will be following similar steps
for participation, but will be using other means- such as a
web cam- to accomplish it.

This will give you a sense of how your
virtual participation will work in relation
to the physical participant.

     STEP 3: SMALL GROUPS DISCUSS THEIR STORYBOARDS WRITING DOWN OBSTACLES AND DECISIONS (20 min)

 Virtual participants reflect on the storyboard as well, calling out the obstacles encountered
 during the process (story) described, and the ways decisions were made.

             STEP 4: SMALL GROUPS REPORT THEIR MOST COMMON OBSTACLES AND DECISIONS (20 min)




                     a volunteer scribe from each group records most common obstacles and decisions



 Virtual participants record themselves via webcam, name the scenario they chose, show the storyboard, and
 explain it, calling out decisions and obstacles. Video should be 1–2 minutes long. If working as a group,
 explain each person’s storyboard and the group’s most common decisions and obstacles.

 Virtual participants upload their videos to YouTube or Vimeo. They might also include a text-based description

Workshop 3: storyboarding

  • 3. WHAT ARE PARTICIPANTS’ VALUES AND HOW CAN THE PLATFORM SUPPORT THEM?
  • 4. GOALS + to identify the most common decisions and obstacles participants face + to identify potential types of users and their values + to suggest platform features and how it might operate
  • 6. DESCRIPTION This workshop revolves around your present and past experiences in both academic and professional settings. To start, you will choose one of four open-ended scenarios. From this scenario you’ll build a storyboard based on your personal experiences.
  • 7. Once you have completed your story, you’ll pinpoint the key moments that influenced your path. Then we’ll move the discussion online, where we’ll identify overlaps and themes from everyone’s stories.
  • 9. The remainder of this slideshow demonstrates what physical participants will be completing at the Proposium event. As a virtual participant you will be following similar steps for participation, but will be using other means- such as a web cam- to accomplish it.
  • 10. Read the annotations found at the bottom left hand side, shown through the yellow plus icon: This will give you a sense of how your virtual participation will work in relation to the physical participant.

WORKSHOP 3: STORYBOARDING STEP 1: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOUR SCENARIOS AND RECEIVE PROMPTS (5 min) 10:40 AM 11:55 AM 2:10 PM 3:25 PM COLLABORATING, FINDING RESEARCH PROPOSING A PROJECT EXPOSING A PROJECT WORKING IN GROUPS OR DESIGN PARTNER TO CLIENTS TO CRITIQUE SCENARIO A SCENARIO B SCENARIO C SCENARIO D Virtual participants create the videos in response to any of the four suggested scenarios.
  • 15. WORKSHOP 3: STORYBOARDING STEP 2: USING STICKY NOTES AS FRAMES, SKETCH A STORYBOARD ILLUSTRATING YOUR WORK PROCESS (15 min) ON SITE participants receive a storyboard template to create a linear narrative based on a current or recent experience
  • 18. WORKSHOP 3: STORYBOARDING STEP 3: SMALL GROUPS DISCUSS THEIR STORYBOARDS WRITING DOWN OBSTACLES AND DECISIONS (20 min) obs dec ON SITE ON SITE Virtual participants reflect on the storyboard as well, calling out the obstacles encountered during the process (story) described, and the ways decisions were made.

WORKSHOP 3: STORYBOARDING STEP 4: SMALL GROUPS REPORT THEIR MOST COMMON OBSTACLES AND DECISIONS (20 min) a volunteer scribe from each group records most common obstacles and decisions Virtual participants record themselves via webcam, name the scenario they chose, show the storyboard, and explain it, calling out decisions and obstacles. Video should be 1–2 minutes long. If working as a group, explain each person’s storyboard and the group’s most common decisions and obstacles.
  • 22. WORKSHOP 3: STORYBOARDING REMOTE REMOTE REMOTE REMOTE REMOTE VIDEOS Virtual participants upload their videos to YouTube or Vimeo. They might also include a text-based description of the storyboard. FRAGMENTS ARE OK AS LONG AS THEY KEEP THE STORY MOVING IT IS A STORY FROM YOUR LIFE, COMMUNICATE IT IN A WAY THAT MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE REFLECT ON THE BIG MOMENTS ALONG THE WAY THAT SHAPED YOUR EXPERIENCE Virtual participants be sure to watch other participants’ videos, which we will embed on the page, and comment on them!
