Before I drill down further - I do think it is important to take a moment to reflect on how we got here. As many of you may recall, our first release of SharePoint back in 2001 – really had 2 different architectures – one delivered by SharePoint Team Services and then SharePoint Portal Server 2001. In the second release we came a long way in unifying these architectures and building SPS 2003 on top of Windows SharePoint Services and ASP.Net. This was really a bet on our part of making team collaboration part of the infrastructure and a bet on XML and Web Services. But, we still had the separate product for Web Content Management.
