Place of women in our society(www.notesmartfscs.blogspot.com)
1. Man and woman are the two wheels of the carriage of life. Both of them have equal importance in
the eyes of their Creator. The woman has her own role of life assigned to her by Nature .She is
called the “Queen of the house”, because she is meant to stay at home and perform her duties as a
wife and a mother. If her husband goes out to earn for his family, she looks after the domestic
duties. She gives birth to children and brings them up.
The lap of a mother serves the first school for her children. Woman does an invaluable service to
the nation by bringing up her children in the best possible way .The society gives her full credit and
respect for this. According to the Prophet of Islam,
“Paradise lies under the feet of one’s mother”
The importance of the role of women is now recognized on all hands. They are no longer
regarded inferior to men in any respect. The modern society gives them rights and respect equal
with men.
Women are now being educated to make them more useful socially. It is now agreed that an
educated woman can be a better wife and a wiser mother. Women are getting training in midwife’s,
nursing, sewing, cooking, embroidery and many other household duties.
Although the primary duty of a woman is to do the domestic work, yet she is allowed to become a
career woman and an earning hand. Forced by her circumstances, she can step out of her house
and earn money to support her family. The society provides her facilities and training to work in
educational institutions, hospitals, offices, shops and factories. Women have proved very successful
as teachers, doctors, nurses, air-hostesses, designers, artists, office secretaries, attendants and the like.
Today we have women acting as judges, lawyers, administrators and industrialists. They have also
joined the police and the armed forces and have been equally successful with men. In fact there is
hardly any field of practical life where women are not working side by side with men and have
proved their worth.
The modern society gives them the right to vote and take part in all kinds of elections. Today our
women can become members of Provincial and National Assemblies and serve their country as
Ministers, Ambassadors and even as head of government. We can name many Pakistani women
who have been successful poets, novelists, scientists, social workers and politicians. They are playing
a valuable role in the development of our country in various fields of activity.
There is no doubt that it is an age of the freedom and emancipation of women. Women can no
longer be created as slaves. Islam gives them the right to hold property and to get their legal share
from the wealth of their parents. If a woman is not satisfied with her husband, she can go to the
court and get rid of him. But the movement for liberty and equality of women should not be allowed
to exceed limits.
Women can be given civil rights and political liberties, but no un-bridled liberty as in the West. It is
regrettable that our women have cast away their “Pardah” as well as modesty to fulfill their love of
out door life. In the name of independence and equality they are neglecting their basic duties as
wives and mothers. It would be dangerous to copy the Western Culture blindly.
