POSSIBILITY OF LIFE: JUPITER In 1953, the Miller–Urey experiment demonstrated that a combination of lightning and the chemical compounds that existed in the atmosphere of a primordial Earth could form organic compounds (including amino acids ) that could serve as the building blocks of life. The simulated atmosphere included water, methane, ammonia and molecular hydrogen; all molecules still found in the atmosphere of Jupiter. The Miller-Urey experiment Miller and Urey -Miller-Urey tested the conditions for creating life in which there was an - Atmosphere above warmed sea water that contained H 2 O, H 2 , CH 4 , and NH 3 and - Electrodes that simulated lightning. - From this setup, they obtained organic compounds such as amino acids that were collected in cooled water.
