Semiotics
Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation. It
also transmits clear information to the audience. Semiotics also uses code
-media languages the codes used within particular medium to convey message
to the audience.
Semiotics is something that is very important when it comes to
religion. Every religion has its own signs that represent their
believes. People all over the world know what these signs mean
and what they stand for. For example, Christianity has a cross.
Not only in religion semiotics are important and used a lot,
but also in the corporate world. All corporations have their own
logo, in this logo they make use of colours, signs and text. A very
well-known logo is the logo of McDonald’s.
Also in advertising corporations are using semiotics.
This is an advertising of Detol. It is a brand for hygiene and they
are trying to convince people to buy their products by showing this
add. They use the strange image of hands hanging in a bus, which
refers to the holding spots in the public transportation. Thousands
of other people have stood there, so these spots aren’t hygienic at
all. They try to shock people in to buying their brand. Also they
have made use of their product, logo and company colors, which
are white and red.
