The Way We Teach… The way we teach, it becomes a source of adaptation for our learners. So very first thing, to motivate our learners is to cross check our own teaching. Dictionary meaning of ‘motivation’ as per Cambridge Advanced learner’s Dictionary is: enthusiasm for doing something.
Relevance To go through a text is not an active teaching or active learning. Active here means making Learning More ‘enjoyable’ and ‘productive’, it indicates the relevance of discussion on irrelevance of the way generally teaching-learning goes on in our education system.
Modern Approach: ,[object Object]
The shift from teacher- fronted to learner-centered classes is a prerequisite for enhancement of learners’ skills. ,[object Object]
Principles Three main principles of suggestopaedia are: 1-Psychorelaxation 2-Gaining access to the reserve powers of mind 3-Harmonious collaboration of the conscious and unconscious
Use of Bilingualism: From Macaulay to any current age international school campus and university campus English language has spread all over like anything and most of the time we keep talking in English which is being used as ESL or EFL but motivating learners sometimes requires bilingualism. A teacher who can shift from mother tongue to English and from English to mother tongue is a better teacher in true sense of bilingualism (proposed by C. J. Dodson).
Role of Teacher Creative and Innovative: The term creative means original, imaginative, artistic, resourceful, ingenious and innovative means ground-breaking, pioneering, inventive, novel.
Role of Teacher In the context of education, as there remains a difference between ‘trained’ and ‘educated’, I favor ‘educated’ because it gives a scope to innovations and novel ideas in implementation where as ‘trained’ may become a fixation of doing something.
Role of Teacher Today’s knowledge facilitator needs to peep into vision and creative innovations along with fruitful use of technology.
Teacher as a counselor: As a counselor: Provide relief through ventilation Help in making decision Facilitating behavioral change Enhancing coping mechanisms The role of counselor is essential for providing the specific kind of assistance that can help to create happiness for the clients. This happiness will generate motivation.
Voiced and Visualized Literary Creations: Teachers who are dealing with literature in the classroom generally do not attempt to go beyond the text. They tend to stick to text- words, phrases and usages and very often they try to find out meanings of the text through explanation of similes, metaphors etc.
I-podology: Today’s younger generation is always loaded with hi-fi gadgets around them and one of these is i-pod. Let’s reach to their ears not only in the classroom but even beyond the classroom. An enthusiastic teacher can assign the task in the form of podcast.
Walk into Class through Video: When a teacher is away from the class, he can facilitate his/her class with a prerecorded video lecture. It can be delivered in the classroom with the help of CD/DVD player or even it can be made available on webpage.
Using Blogs, Websites and Other Web-Tools A teacher can create his/her own blog to share the variety of things with the learners. Blog can be a tool to keep in touch with the learners. It also provides an opportunity for online publication where learners can also share their views and feedback in the form of comments on blog post.
Video-blogs help to: -spread video material developed so far -gather opinions from the educational community -improve the material to be developed in future
Video-blogs help to: -utilize the material for practical/real teacher training purpose -facilitate teacher trainees living at distant geographical boundaries -encourage further innovative research
The 1998 UNESCO World-Education Report, Teachers and Teaching in a Changing World describes that one of the essential conditions for using technology in the learning process is that teachers must have the knowledge and skills to use the new digital tools and resources to help all students achieve high academic standards.
