ABOUT SCARABEO 9 The largest capacity semi submersible drilling rig in the world The Semi Submersible rig “SS Scarabeo 9” (previously “SS Frigstad Oslo”) is built on a rig design owned by Frigstad Engineering Inc. The “Frigstad D90” Semi rig was designed as an Ultra Deepwater Rig from the beginning, and not enhanced from an older shallow-mid water rig design. The various rig capacities were selected based on latest industry requirements for ultra deep water operations, as well as the latest requirements for extended reach horizontal wells and modern development drilling requirements. The hull and marine systems were then designed to fit these operational requirements. The resulting Frigstad D90 design is probably the worlds most capable and efficient as well as the largest capacity semi submersible drilling rig in the world built or under construction today.
