CHAPTER LEADERSHIP POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creating leaders that honor, inspire, and engage
OVERVIEW
The premise of the NSCS officer leadership program is to challenge each NSCS officer to develop
the skills and attributes necessary to be successful in the future as a global citizen. Being an
active NSCS officer is one of the most valuable ways to build leadership abilities, expand
interpersonal relationships, extend program management skills, and develop and incorporate
integrity into your daily life.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL OFFICERS
īˇ Serve as a role model, embodying the ideals of a student leader and engaged NSCS
member
īˇ Take an active role in planning and holding the New Member Induction Ceremony
īˇ Maintain open lines of communication with fellow officers and the chapter advisor,
chapter membership, and the NSCS national office
īˇ Possess accurate and up-to-date knowledge of NSCS opportunities and benefits, and be
able to effectively communicate the benefits of NSCS membership to those who ask
īˇ Utilize the resources at www.nscs.org, and maintain an accurate chapter profile
īˇ Maintain Facebook chapter page based on requirements outlined in the âMaintaining
your NSCS Chapter Facebook Pageâ
īˇ Keep members engaged by attending regularly scheduled events
īˇ Network with other organizations and individuals on campus
īˇ Turn in requested information on or before stated deadlines
īˇ Fully prepare incoming officers to ensure a smooth transition for the next year
īˇ Take full advantage of the opportunities to develop personally and professionally
through an NSCS leadership role
REQUIRED POSITIONS FOR GOOD STANDING:
ADVISOR
Advises and supports the efforts of the chapter, providing consistency from year to year
Responsibilities
īˇ Manage the Invitation Approval Process, including:
Signing the invitation letter
Supporting NSCS registration on campus
Finalizing the online Invitation Letter approval by October 1
īˇ Facilitate the eligible member information process so that new members can be invited ,
including:
Sending the request to the school registrar
Following up with the registrar to ensure information is sent to the national office
by stated deadlines
Troubleshooting roadblocks in getting eligible member information
īˇ Receive information sent from the NSCS national office, by mail, including but not
limited to the Fall and Spring Boxes and chapter checks
īˇ Store chapter items from year to year so that they do not get lost in officer transitions
īˇ Attend chapterâs New Member Induction Ceremony

CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Manages the chapterâs overall goals and direction for the year, while maintaining positive
relations with the national office, chapter membership, and campus community
Responsibilities
īˇ Attend the annual NSCS Leadership Summit and Transition Week
īˇ Organize, plan, and facilitate the growth and success of the chapter
īˇ Set the agenda for chapter/officer meetings
īˇ Communicate regularly with the chapter advisor and officers
īˇ Ensure that the chapter remains registered and in positive standing with all appropriate
campus offices; including being listed under student organizations on school website
īˇ Maintain Facebook chapter page based on requirements outlined in the âMaintaining

īˇ Hold chapter leadership accountable for chapter goals and performance, and oversee
officer transitions
īˇ With the chapter advisor, facilitate the member recruitment process (Invitation
Approval Packet in the fall; Eligible Member Information in the spring)
īˇ Act as a liaison between the national office and local chapter
VICE PRESIDENT OF EVENTS
Collaborates with the chapter President to manage the New Member Induction Ceremony and
all other NSCS Signature programs and to ensure compliance with all campus and national
regulations and deadlines
Responsibilities
īˇ Oversee the planning and execution of the New Member Induction Ceremony
īˇ Submit Induction Scheduling Form, Activity Report and Roster to National Office
īˇ Oversee all membership and recruitment events
īˇ Plan and coordinate chapter officer meetings
īˇ Secure speakers for meetings, events and other activities
īˇ Initiate collaboration between chapter and other groups/organizations
īˇ Attend all officer meetings and events unless otherwise approved by the Chapter
President
īˇ Collaborate with VP of Social Media and VP of Public Relations to publicize chapter
events

VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS & RECRUITMENT
Fosters awareness of NSCS and its activities among potential members, campus officials, and
the community at large
Responsibilities
īˇ Increase activeness in your chapter through public relations efforts
īˇ Consistently Update the NSCS Chapter Facebook Fan page with events, pictures and
video
īˇ Maintain Facebook chapter page based on requirements outlined in the âMaintaining
your NSCS Chapter Facebook Pageâ
īˇ Plan and coordinate chapterâs Public Relations Campaigns, RUSH! Week and other
member recruitment activities
īˇ Publicize chapter meetings, events and member accomplishments
īˇ Participate in Organization Fairs, Fall Welcome activities, etc.
īˇ Visit Freshman Orientations/Seminars, Honors Classes, Residence Halls, etc. to provide
publicity for your NSCS chapter
īˇ Ensure your campus is engaged and familiar with NSCS
STAR STATUS COORDINATOR
Keeps an organized and detailed account of chapter activities, consistently updates Chapter
Checklist and monitors STAR Status progress
Responsibilities
īˇ Report chapter activities and member involvement to the national office, in accordance
with the STAR Program
īˇ Ensure that the chapter meets minimum STAR requirements
īˇ Maintain records for a member tracking/rewards program (if applicable)
īˇ Distribute all information about national opportunities to members and officer board
īˇ Provides national office with relevant documents, photographs, etc
īˇ Communicate with Member Engagement Representative regarding STAR Status
Standing
TREASURER
Oversees chapter finances, fundraising and tracks member involvement
Responsibilities
īˇ Understand all policies related to chapter finances and chapter credit card
īˇ Prepare seasonal chapter budgets, and coordinate disbursement of chapter checks with
the national office
īˇ Manage and oversee all financial transactions for the chapter, including reimbursement
of expenses
īˇ Plan all chapter fundraising activities

VP, SOCIAL MEDIA
Maintains detailed, multimedia records of chapterâs service and social activities and history to
aid in publicity, recruitment, and officer transitions. Maintains the chapterâs online presence
on chapterâs Facebook Fan Page, also inclusive of managing chapter e-mail accounts, web site
(if applicable), and profiles in campus organization directories
īˇ Upload picture(s) and tag all of the officers from your chapter on Facebook
īˇ Ensure all meeting minutes on Facebook are posted in the âNotesâ section
īˇ Maintain conversation by responding to comments and answering questions on the
Facebook Fan Page
īˇ Create and upload photos/video for events on Facebook
īˇ Use Status Update to make announcements for events and important reminders
MUST FILL VP, PACE OR VP, COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR GOOD STANDING:
VICE PRESIDENT OF PLANNING TO ACHIEVE COLLEGIATE EXCELLENCE (PACE)
Coordinates the chapterâs Planning to Achieve Collegiate Excellence program, maintaining its
presence as the signature NSCS service initiative
Responsibilities
īˇ Establish and maintain a relationship with partner school/organization
īˇ Plan regular PACE activities such as school visits, assemblies, and March to Collegeâĸ
Day(s)
īˇ Recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to PACE volunteers
īˇ Solicit and implement feedback from program participants
īˇ Ensure program compliance with all legal and privacy regulations, as stipulated by the
partner organization and college/university administration
VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
Connects members with their campus and local communities through participation in
charitable events, and NSCS-sponsored service activities
Responsibilities

īˇ Stay up-to-date on campus service activities
īˇ Recruit members to participate in service programs and events
