Discover the Turkish Riviera
KALKAN The Turkish Riviera is a term used to define an area
of southwest Turkey encompassing Antalya, Muğla and
to a lesser extent the provinces of Aydın, southern İzmir
and western Mersin. The combination of a favourable
Mediterranean Sea climate, warm sea, more than a thousand kilometres of
shoreline along the Aegean and Mediterranean waters,
and abundant natural and archaeological points of
interest makes this stretch of Turkey’s coastline a popular
national and international tourist destination.

Among the archaeological points of interest are two of the
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the ruins of the Mausoleum
of Maussollos in Halicarnassus and the remains of the Temple of
Artemis in Ephesus, which can still be seen today.

The Riviera is also the home for the internationally-known Blue Voyage, which allows participants to enjoy a week long trip on
Gulets to ancient cities, harbours, tombs, mausoleum and intimate beaches in the numerous small coves, lush forests and streams
that lace the Turquoise Coast.

The coastline is further regarded as a cultural trove that provides a fascinating mixture of factual and mythological individuals,
conflicts and events, and has frequently been referred to in the folklore of various cultures throughout history. As such, it is regarded
as the home of scholars, saints, warriors, kings, and heroes, as well as the site of numerous well-known myths. Mark Antony of the
Roman Empire is said to have picked the Turkish Riviera as the most beautiful wedding gift for his beloved Cleopatra of Egypt. St.
Nicholas, later known as Santa Claus, was born in Demre (ancient Myra), a small town close to present-day Antalya.[3] Herodotus,
accepted as the father of History, was born in Bodrum (ancient Halicarnassus) in ca. 484 BC. The volcanic mountains to the west
of Antalya, near Dalyan, are believed to have been the inspiration for the mythical Chimera - the fire breathing monster that
Bellerophon slew.


The Resorts

Bodrum
There are several ways to explore the peninsula, the most enjoyable of which are
to visit several of the bays and seaside villages mentioned via one of the daily
boat trips available from Bodrum harbor or from any of the local beaches or
harbours. The other is to take the road and drive around the peninsula.

Enchanting villages, with guest-houses and restaurants on quiet bays, dot the
peninsula. On the southern coast, Bardakçi, Gümbet, Bitez, Ortakent (12 km),
Bagla and Akyalar (10 km), have fine, sandy beaches. Wind-surfers enjoy Akyarlar,
and at Bitez colorful sail boards weave skilfully among the masts of yachts in the
bay.

On shore you can enjoy quiet walks through the orange and tangerine groves
bordering the beach. Ortakent has one of the longest stretches of sandy beach
in the area and offers an ideal place for sun bathing.

One of the most beautiful beaches on the Bodrum peninsula, Karaincir, is ideal for
lively active days by the sea and relaxed, leisurely evenings with local villagers.
Finally, Akyarlar enjoys a well-deserved reputation for the fine, powdery sand of
its beach.

TURGUTREIS, GUMUSLUK and YALIKAVAK, all with excellent beaches, lie on the
western side of the peninsula and are ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water
sports.

In Yalikavak white-washed houses with cascading bougainvillaea line narrow
streets. Small cafes and the occasional windmill create a picturesque setting.

See the north coast of the peninsula - Torba (5 km), Türkbükü (15 km), Gölköy (13
km) and Gündogan, - by road or, even better, hire a boat and crew to explore
the quiet coves, citrus groves and wooded islands. Little windmills which up to
10 years ago provided the energy to grind grain crown hills covered with olive
trees.

The Resorts

Oludeniz and Fethiye
Oludeniz is the poster beach of Turkey: a beautiful, wide stretch of shingly sand
(Belcekiz beach), long enough to absorb the crowds, and with the waters of the
warm Blue Lagoon behind a natural sandbar. This is now a nature reserve and
charges for entrance (£3 including parking), but still attracts hordes of families who
come with picnics to shelter among the pine trees from the heat of the day. The
sea is sandy underfoot, calm and gently shelving, so ideal for small children. Set
back from the beach is a cluster of open-air restaurants and hotels. Fethiye, about
10 miles away, is a regional town rather than a resort, with a busy harbour and
marina. Dive into the restaurants, shops and cafes that form the old bazaar - a
good place to hunt for a bargain.

What to do
From Hisaronu, follow the signs through the pine woods to Kayakoy. It’s an eerie
place, the result of a forced population exchange in 1924, when the Greeks who
lived here were repatriated. The human story is told in Louis de Bernieres’ latest
novel Birds without Wings. The village - thousands of stone houses, plus churches
- has been left to crumble on the hillside. There is also good walking (two hours
along the coastal path to Oludeniz) and horse riding.

At Fethiye, day trips round the 12 islands in the bay cost around £10. On Tuesdays,
the town hosts one of the region’s best markets, which has the benefit of being
under cover.

Kalkan
Situated on Turkey’s beautiful south west Mediterranean coast, between the towns
of Fethiye and Kas, the small town of Kalkan is nestled at the foot of the Taurus
Mountains in a beautiful bay. The heart of Kalkan is its Old Town, a maze of small
cobbled streets winding down to the harbour. The streets are lined with many
old Greek and Turkish buildings covered with bougainvillea, occupied by small
boutique shops, restaurants and a few bar/cafes. Today the town is expanding
out from this traditional centre, but the character of the Old Town and harbour

Kas is located in Southern Turkey and is surrounded by the Esen Stream and
Fethiye to the west, by Kale (Demre) to the east, and by Elmali County to the
north. Kas County includes 70 km of Mediterranean coastline and lies across from
Meis Island.

Kas is situated mid-way between Antalya and Dalaman – both of which have
airports. There are numerous flights to both of these destinations from most UK
airports but we would recommend Dalaman as the roads from there to Kas are
much better & therefore the transfer is quicker! The lovely harbour town of Kas lies at
the foot of the Taurus Mountains and faces the Greek island of Meis, which nestles
in the crystal clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Heading away from the
harbour are a web of narrow winding cobbled streets lined with an abundance
of restaurants, cafes, tea gardens and colourful shops. Friday is a busy day for
tourists and locals alike as a large market comes to town offering a wide array of
fresh local produce, spices, hardware, fashionable summer wear, haberdashery,
bags and shoes to name but a few. Kas has a mixture of pebbly beaches and
beach clubs around the town. The main two beaches are imaginatively named
“Big Pebble Beach” and “Little Pebble Beach”! Big Pebble Beach is located in
a lovely cove and Little Pebble Beach is flanked by beach clubs with excellent
amenities for swimming and a relaxing day by the beautiful clear blue waters.
Located about a 20 minutes’ drive from Kas is the lovely sandy beach at Kaputas
and a further 30 minutes’ drive takes you to one of the biggest and best sandy
beaches in the entire Mediterranean at Patara. Other lovely sandy beaches can
be reached from Kas Harbour after a 10 - 15 minutes ride by water taxi.

Facilities description:
Money and communications: There are banks, ATMs and bureau de
change. Post offices are located in both the International and the Domestic
terminals.

Eating and drinking: There are 24-hour restaurants, snack bars, cafés, fast-
food and bars.

Shopping: There is 24-hour shopping at the airport, including an authentic
Bazaar and duty-free shopping in the International Terminal.

Luggage: There is a lost property office in the International Terminal. A 24-hour
left-luggage facility and a porter service are also available.

Other facilities: These include first aid, a 24-hour pharmacy, baby-care rooms
and children’s’ play room.

Disabled facilities:
The airport has lifts and numerous wheelchair-accessible toilets. Disabled passengers
requiring assistance with boarding aircraft are advised to contact their airline in
advance. Wheelchairs are available at the airport, but passengers should make
advance arrangements with their airline. A bridge taxi is available after passport
control on the Departures floor, for those who need to get to distant gates (tel:
(0212) 663 2550).

Public Transport
Car parking: There is a car park located at each terminal; with space for 7,200
cars at the International Terminal. A valet service is available (tel: (0212) 465
4433).

Public transport description: Rail: The light rail metro system connects the
airport to Esenler Terminal.
Bus: Havas airport buses run to central Istanbul (Taksim Square) and to the bus
terminal on demand (journey time - 30 minutes). Services also operate to Akmerkez
(Etiler).

Taxi: Taxis or dolmus (shared taxis) are available outside the terminals.
Public transport - Bus: Havas airport buses run to central Istanbul (Taksim Square)
and to the bus terminal on demand (journey time - 30 minutes). Services also
operate to Akmerkez (Etiler).

please note it may be a similar type of vehicle rather than the make/model listed.
You can book your car when you book your holiday. We will confirm the rental
arrangements and price on your holiday invoice, and you will receive a car hire
voucher, along with your other holiday documents,

Car Hire Terms and Conditions

Refuelling: Cars are provided with a full tank of fuel and should be returned full, otherwise there will be a
refuelling fee to pay.
Included: Unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (excludes CDW excess) and Theft Protection.
Insurance: Collision damage waiver is void if the driver is intoxicated or under the effect of drugs; if legal
speed limits are violated; or if an on-site police traffic accident report is not submitted. Wind-screen damage,
left of spare-tire, car permission papers, registration plate, fire extinguisher, etc., internal or external equipment,
loss or damage of customers private materials, damage due to misuse of vehicle, loss of vehicle are not
covered by insurance.

INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER TYRE PUNCTURES, WINDSCREEN OR HEADLIGHTS BREAKAGES, THEFT OF
SPARE TYRE AND RADIOS-TAPES AND DAMAGES DUE TO MISUSE OF CAR.SO AS TO INSURE THESE, DAILY
£ 4 IS NECESSARY TO BE PAID.IN CASE OF ANY ACCIDENT THE CLIENT IS SUPPOSED TO ASK FOR THE
CORRESPONDENT POLICE AND ALCOHOL REPORT IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT MOVING THE RENTED CAR
FROM THE PLACE OF THE ACCIDENT. OTHERWISE C.D.W. IS CONSIDERED VOID.

Driver’s licence: A full driving licence will need to be held for a minimum of one year. An international driving
licence is required for licences in non-roman alphabet. UK licence holders will need to take their ID card and
its paper counterpart.
Driver’s age: Minimum age 21 for Groups B, D, N, 25 for Groups F, G, M, O and 27 for Groups I, K, L.
Extra Named Driver: Approx. 9TL per day, per driver, payable locally.
Child seats: Available at an extra charge of 15TL per day, payable locally and need to be requested in
advance.
General Information: A valid Amex, Diners, Visa or MasterCard is required when picking up your rental car.

The services of Agent in resort. (Appointment needs to be booked in advance if

Self-catering occupation of the villa as described in the individual villa’s

The basic cost as shown in the brochure price panels or on our website does not

Excursions and other personal expenditure;
Holiday insurance;
Any applicable supplements for rooms, meals or extra occupancy in villas and
apartments;
Any applicable charges for pre-bookable items such as Car Hire, Optional Taxi
Transfers,
Charges for pre-bookable items such as baby buggies, cots, highchairs, air
conditioning, central heating, pool heating, welcome pack, boat hire etc;
Charges made at your accommodation for optional facilities such as cots, minibus
services, sunbeds, sauna, tennis courts and equipment, porters, air-conditioning,
heating, telephone line etc;
Arrival/departure/eco taxes imposed by your destination country that are payable
locally in cash;
