                           SPEECH II
                    INTRODUCING A SPEAKER

By: Nelson Castillo M.
General Objectives

General Objectives:
 Become a better public speaker,
    with improved skills in researching,
    organizing, developing, and
    delivering speeches.

 Practice delivery and presentation
    skills.

 Select the right words and sentence
    structure to communicate your
    ideas clearly, accurately and vividly.
Specific Objectives

Learn how to introduce a speaker.

Review how to develop an outline
for a 3-4 minute informative speech
about the speaker.

Carefully support your points and
opinions with specific facts, example
and illustrations gathered through
research.
Why a Speech of Introduction?

  The introductory remarks by
which a speaker is presented to
  his/her audience are an important
  aspect of public speaking.

  Listeners will be a more
  perceptive and appreciative
  audience if they understand what
  the speaker is undertaking.

 One function of the introduction
is to establish the proper "mental
set" so the group will know what to
  look for.
•The purpose of an introduction is to
P introduce the speaker to the audience,
and the audience to the speaker, so you
U establish a common bond between them.

R •It is a mini-speech - usually about a
minute long - but it contains all the
P elements of a full speech - an opening, a
    body and a conclusion.
O
•Make sure you give accurate information
S to the audience - the only way to do this
is to contact the speaker beforehand, by
E phone, fax or email.

•It can be embarrassing for a speaker to
have to correct inaccurate facts before
    starting a speech.
